Homeless in Arizona

Trying to find honest work, it's not so easy. I had a fellow give me $200 about a week ago which was really nice. Was able to get my phone turned on and eat a couple of real meals. I'm back down to $5, about to go dumpster diving for my next meal. Happy to provide any proof to my claims you might want, or check my profile. I been documenting my adventures there.

Ask and you shall receive

Found a lil 8" cast iron pan in the same scrap metal pile I got my scavenger's saw out of after specifically setting out to acquire a cast iron pan.

Fried potatoes under the bridge

It stopped raining just long enough for me to fry half a potato. Mmmm. Fried potato.

Jackpot in front of the donation bins

Got me a chair and a dozen really nice jackets I can probably flip for $30 each on FBM including this sick southwest airlines flight jacket. That's gonna be my main jacket when the cold days come.

As requested, tonight's sleeping accomodations.

Someone gave me a hammock so I don't have to sleep on the river bank anymore

Scavenger's saw

Needed to cut some long sticks to set up my shelter. Didn't want to go to goodwill and buy a saw. As though fate knew what I needed, I found a saw blade in a scrap bin and a couple of feet of caution tape to use as a grip. Works fairly well.

Lost my trusty pick under a bridge about 3 years ago. It came back to me.

Took a friend to a spot under a bridge that I used to hang out when I was homeless to pan for gold (never thought to pan for gold at this location) and he spotted something shiny in the sand on the bank.

It's my trusty lockpick that I lost years ago. It has returned to me.

Back in my natural habitat

After a couple of months of attempting to transition to being an indoor person, I'm officially back under the bridge. Despite this, I'm optimistic. This isn't even much of a downgrade from the place I was staying.

Still looking for work

After generously receiving some cash from Mike so I can survive the next couple of days, I'm still finding myself with nothing to do during the day. Would love to help out someone in the community who needs something done. Got a strong back and experience moving, dirty jobs, light electrical and plumbing, building fences, that kind of stuff if you've got the tools. I'm terrified of heights so tree trimming is probably the only thing I won't even attempt. $10/hr I'm yours.

Metor shower to the north

If you get out of town and away from the lights you can see the start of the Perseid meteor shower. It's going to be going on until the 13th. I thought it was UFOs at first. Its really beautiful now that I know it's not aliens.

Flock Safety and Daniel Lesley

With all the talk about Flock safety right now, I'd like to collectively address all the people saying "So what" with a local tragedy that was enabled by flock cameras that people seem to have forgotten.

If the officers would have been forced to do even a little bit of investigative legwork instead of being able to just ask an AI where Daniel was, they would have discovered that he didn't really do any of the things he was being accused of. If you make a cop's job trivially easy in a way that encourages cutting corners, they'll stop taking it seriously and when a cop isn't taking their job seriously people die. That's been proven right here in our city. Its the same story with the fire chief incident; laziness driven incompetence is a real problem among our officers and flock safety is demonstrably enabling that behavior.

What was the purpose of music videos pre-MTV?

Listening to the house of the rising sun on youtube and it just hit me that this classic song from the 60's has a period-correct original music video with it and it's got me wondering; why? Film was expensive as balls back then and there wasn't really a practical distribution method. Old variety shows are the only possible answer I can think of.

"Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters."

What us this? I have never encountered this before. The implication is that an AI decided that this post was evil and needed to be deleted (It wasn't) with zero human review. This was not the moderators of the sub, this was not a reddit admin manually removing it, apparently, they used a word or phrase that pissed off an AI and now its gone.

Is my assumption correct? Or has reddit just decided to change the message you get when you get admin-deleted?

Am I actually being helpful every time I report a roadkill deer

About 5 years ago I found a fresh roadkill deer and I had a friend who was struggling to feed his dogs so I called fish and wildlife and they texted me a salvage permit for it within 5 minutes and the nice lady on the phone told me that they had a physical map with a bunch of push pins in it where people had reported roadkill and somehow that was extremely useful data for them. Now every time I see them, I call it in.

Would you appreciate a member of the public like me? Or am I just taking up their valuable time?

Motorola phones now have an undisablable ad that plays sometimes on your lock screen

It's called "glance AI" and it's a prepackaged unremovable app on all Motorola smartphones. Until a recent update you could disable it but since an update a few weeks ago it keeps re-enabling itself.

Occasionally, and I mean like 1/20, this stupid app that is holding my lock screen hostage will play a full volume video ad. I just got one for Chime. Can't even unlock my phone without seeing an ad. What the fuck?

He always gets so excited when I find fresh lettuce

He's been munching on it for like 30 minutes straight. He's got plenty of water and access to cat grass (and he's allowed to go outside so he could go eat natural greenery if he needed to)

He just really likes his lettuce. Before anyone says anything about wasting the whole head of lettuce; I rescued it from a dumpster and plan on giving it to the chickens anyway.

Running a van's ac without the engine running without adding a roof unit

A friend of mine who is a very mechanically talented is talking about completely removing the belt driven compressor from his charger, replacing it with an electric compressor from an EV, moving it out of the engine bay to make room for other ridiculous mods and beefing up the alternator. A side effect of this mod is that if one were to add a storage battery grid to this setup and run the AC off the storage battery grid, wouldn't that be ideal for a camper van? His entire budget is less than the cost of a roof AC, not even including installation. What would be wrong with doing this same mod to my van? (he's willing to help)
