Sir D's supernatural status was foreshadowed in episode 1

After being fed on by kevin, the knife and bite wound (which wasn't sealed as we can clearly see) that should be leaking blood are already fully healed and no blood is visible. We know the OP team aren't afraid to show gruesome wounds on characters, as a minute later kevin literally pulls a spear through his eye hole and it is coated in vitae. The OP team wouldn't have missed such an obvious detail, as they rendered blood from the initial knife wound, but chose to hide any and all wounds or blood from his face after being rescued from kevin.

And secondly, he got enough blood drained to be immediately delirious, yet somehow had enough presence of mind to raucously cheer about how he had spiked his blood. No normal human would be capable of thinking clearly at all let alone think to brag about the situation with lucid detail.

He was delirious after being fed on, but in a short time later (the time it took to carry the sabbat pack to the golden goose, probably not very long but it's not really shown exactly how long) he is perfectly fine again without suffering any visible symptoms of blood loss, and is capable of driving while already intoxicated. A normal human would almost certainly be fighting to stay conscious by this point considering how much blood he lost.

I feel like both of these will be obvious signs in retrospect that something supernatural is going on with D.

Do any of the armed services upper echelon have a contingency plan for if a soldier experiences first change?

Statstically speaking, there has to have been at least a couple fera to experience first change while deployed in a combat operation. Most people have absolutely no knowledge of the supernatural, but certain sectors of the federal government in america (and other governments like the UK) do know, and so I was wondering if there was a plan in place for such an event.

Imagine a late shifter enlists without knowing that they are garou, they're a lost cub, or mistaken for kinfolk and are sent on a combat deployment, and the inevitable stress triggers a first change, soldier becoming warrior and pants becoming soiled as it rages across a battlefield.

Presuming they aren't somehow killed in the process by delirious combatants, how might a supernaturally informed joint chief respond?

If the arcanum/D family didnt like wolves before, they fucking HAAATE them now

First fatigue, now grimal? they've lost in the span of a couple hours two very beloved colleagues, possibly with a third on the way if the Do or Die theory is to be believed.

I can't imagine Kitten or Door ever wanting anything to do with any werewolves after tonight.

Door might even end up feeling guilty for how his last conversation ended up being with grimal "I will hold you to that"

what exactly determines if a person grows up as a kinfolk vs garou?

Say for the sake of arguement, two children are born from a garou/kin or garou/human pair, they are genetics twins, is it possible for only one of them to be full blooded garou? what exactly determines who is one? If it's something biological/in the DNA, could you detect this with a microscope?

Also, related, if a late shifter has lived their entire life as a kinfolk, gained some amount of rank or respect, would most pacts/septs recognise their pre shift station/reputation, or are they expected to start at square 1?

Will Amanda's IOU end up being a checkov's gun?

I saw in a post someone suggesting that Amanda will use her IOU to call in a favor to spare matilda's life, which actually makes a ton of sense and something that would probably create a rift between D and kitten (D respecting the rules of IOU, kitten wanting her dead for kidnapping marckus).

What do you think? do you think she will end up cashing it in for something important?

What are some reasons a non-kin mortal might be brought into a caern?

Just curious if anyone knows of a garou camp or sept known for inviting humans closer to a caern, and for what purposes. I think the idea of maybe saving some garou's life and being rewarded with an honorary feast or something to that effect would be neat.

Kitten's retelling of the 5v1 in the latest audiolog makes his reaction to marckus's kidnapping very teling

He had carried the weight of seeing his girlfriend get beat up and not able to do anything about it on his shoulders for years. He dealt with the trauma of that event for however many years, and that was a simple fight between regular humans, where the person he cared about survived and got hospital treatment.

This? this is sooooo so much worse. I can't imagine kitten isn't replaying the events in his head over and over again as the events of chapter 5 rip the bandaid of healing off that scar of a memory. What's worse is that there is actually nothing he can do for right now, no ambulance to call, no one to comfort on the ride to the hospital, his spouse is well and truly gone and he has genuinely no idea if marckus is alive or a wolf or dead or worse.

How does a non hunter mortal who has breached the veil stay alive?

So, say a regular joe witnesses something he shouldn't have. A leech jumping a victim in an alley, a strange spirit, a creature made of meat being stuffed into the back of a company truck. Assuming he isn't immediately made, how can they go about living any amount of a normal life, knowing full well that the supernatural is real?

What kind of strategies could you take to avoid encountering splats or revealing you know more than you should when you make eye contact with that pale stranger across the bar?

Most importantly, how does a mortal survive having supernaturals know that THEY know?

How do hunters overcome fear? How would you represent this mechanically?

I don't mean delirium, or some other supernaturally created fear response. I mean the perfectly understandable, rational fear of whatever it is the hunter(s) are up against? How does a hunter get over a primal fear response and press on and continue to put themself in danger, knowing what they know about the nature of their world?

How would you represent a character being afraid mechanically, or getting over said fear? Have you ever played a hunter who is afraid of a particular quarry?

Is shapeshifting energy intensive?

For garou and the like, even with supernatural nonsense going on, physically metamorphising into a giant monster can't be easy on the body. I have to imagine most active fera are carbo loading like crazy to maintain their forms

A hunter the vigil one shot adventure I'm workshopping: Beyond darkest fathoms

The central conceit of a oneshot I am spitballing is this: Set in modern times, a crew of a nuclear submarine on a monitoring tasking in the atlantic sea picks up a strange signal from the sea floor. The crew retrieves the signal and finds it to be an antique coffin of unusual make, and decide to radio their find in to fleetcom.

Against orders, the most junior crew member of this small vessel is curious, and tries to open the coffin. The opening latch has small blades concealed in the handle, which prick his hand, leaking a drop of blood onto the recipient of the coffin, who turns out to be an ancient lasombra elder, asleep in torpor for centuries. The vampire wakes, and the rest of the crew are roused by a blood curdling scream, but only find the body of the junior officer.

The captain attempts to find and confront the cause of the death, and the rest of the crew witness as he tries and fails to slay the beast with his service sidearm, the only firearm on board. The crew, who consist of the remaining players, are now trapped deep underwater with a monster from their darkest nightmares, and have to find some way to survive. They seal the bulkhead door to the submarine's cockpit and radio to fleet command. The personnel normally responsible for overwatch are overruled by someone with a higher clearance than anyone on board had ever encountered, who order them to immediately stop and stay put, and to wait until a response can be scrambled to their location. The overriding authority says it will take three days to send an adequate force to rescue the crew and handle the situation, and to do whatever they can to keep the vessel intact and in the same location.

You weigh your options; the submarine is currently several fathoms down, and surfacing might see you court martialed for insubordination, even if you did surface, where would you go? You aren't certain the creature that woke from the coffin is alive or killable, and none of you are keen to repeat the captain's demonstration. Up until now, whatever your personal beliefs, you were normal every day humans, and none of you had any actual knowledge of the supernatural. You are all sane, military aged naval service members, likely of a technical rating, and either experienced NCOs or junior officers yourselves. You might be an engineer, a communications officer, a medical officer, whatever position would make sense according to the kind of jobs you'd expect to see on a nuclear submarine.

Out of character, you would know that this blank is an elder of the lasombra clan, adept at sneaking and infiltration, and wise enough to have survived centuries of unlife. You do not know why he was buried at sea, or what his specific intentions are, although it's safe to say he intends to enforce the masquerade. You might try to reason or bargain with him, or hunt him down, or destroy the submarine to take him out with you. Your player characters have no idea vampires are actually real, and so might try anything they had seen from popular culture or mythology they are familiar with.

The elder has been asleep for centuries and has essentially no knowledge of the modern world, including the sub he finds himself in. They would likely be slow to antagonise the crew, considering that he had just fed and has no idea how to escape. Likely he will spend time watching the crew from the shadows to find out more info, and it won't take him long to discover he is not on land. During the day time, he will sleep in torpor in a safe secluded location, only rousing if he believes himself to be in imminent danger. With only one firearm aboard and very little to no wood present on the sub, a direct attack on his life is likely to end with the attacker very dead. He may be willing to cooperate or compromise with the player characters if they can persuade him that it is in his best interest. He is as reasonable as can be expected, which is to say, not very reasonable, but educating him as to his current predicament may make him more amenable to negotiations.

None of the PCs will have any pre existing knowledge of the supernatural aside from perfectly normal human traditions and superstitious beliefs, although nothing to the point that would prevent you from passing a navy medical psych eval, including any form of Numina/fera blood/etc.

As for actually dealing with the elder; you have no real knowledge on vampires, what they are, how they operate, or how to kill them, but it's a safe assumption that enough radiation will kill anything, so you might be convinced to sabotage the reactor and cause a critical melt down. Enough radiation will char even dead skin, although this decision is as final as they come, and the area around the sub will be uninhabitable by life for a very long time to come. This may be a good or bad thing depending on one's perspective. There could be any number of methods to trap or trick the creature, your characters will have to be creative and use their enviroment.

Who or what is this creature? how are you going to see tomorrow morning alive and with your minds intact? and who is this strange authority overriding your existing command? How will you cope with knowledge that the supernatural is real and as lethal as any other danger in this world of darkness?

As said before, this is a work in progress, here are a few roadblocks I am anticipating and working around.

How large is the crew? nuclear submarines can have hundreds of crewman, and this might detract somewhat from the agency of the players if they are junior members or otherwise not in positions of command, and convincing an entire crew of insubordination is much more difficult. The vamp could have slain all but the player characters, but why spare them?

Why would a naval submarine randomly recover a strange antique coffin at the bottom of the sea? if they were ordered to by fleetcom, then clearly someone was expecting this result, but wouldn't there be a larger response force to deal with the creature inside?

How could any kind of truce be possible considering the masquerade? a mass embrace or ghouling doesn't really seem feasible, which would make a fight to the death inevitable. Maybe only a short term "until we're not underwater anymore" truce is more reasonable.

Speculating about the EAU and garou hunting

So, in the latest chapter, we see the D family petition for aid from multiple coalition orgs, including a locally run working class hunter organisation called the east anglian union.

These are, to put it politely, a bunch of shmucks who are just trying to protect their local neighborhoods, I doubt any of them are serious scholars of the supernatural, and only study enough to know how to kill whatever it is that's bothering them (which is to be expected for most low level orgs and cells.)

Their reps, hard mc tack and sluice watergate, don't seem to be particularly surprised that werewolves exist, and are theoretically willing to ask their members to assist in hunting said werewolves, so I wonder thus:

Are the EAU folks ignorant of the general fuck around and find out levels of the average garou? If they are, sending them in will likely be less than useless, as they become liabilities. Presumably the EAU hunters primarily hunt vampires and the odd wraith or changeling, and I doubt they'd encountered anything on the level of an actual warrior of gaia. Delirium, mundane panic, and ignorance will make them get in the way of the actual werewolf hunters, once they realize once they are up against (assuming they keep their sanity intact).

If they AREN'T ignorant of the threat level of the average werewolf, then they are some tough motherfuckers, considering the scale that they operate on. Being able (nevermind willing) to actually organise/participate in a hunt of a group of garou that has any chance of being effective at the level of essentially a well armed home owner's association means they must have some serious firepower, or an ace up their sleeve we don't know about.

The union reps didn't seem to balk or be concerned that they were sharing the negotiating table with a literal PMC and a liason to the british government. This is like having a mass shooting and inviting the local 2a prepper to the emergency management task force, for perspective.

At this point considering what they are up against, who they are fighting alongside, and what they stand to gain, the EAU are either clinically fucking insane (more so than hunters typically are) or are secret badasses that are very good at hiding their strength
