Is there any amount of wheat flour that's low fodmap?

Like, for example, fries that are battered in wheat flour? That's not a lot of flour, is it safe?

Don't know what my goal weight is, really wanting to start running again.

I haven't had a period since September last year. I think I lost it from running too much. I've fluctuated a lot in weight over my life, my lowest being 94lbs and highest being 147lbs (I'm 5'1, so BMI ranging 17.8-27.8). The weird thing is I was 112 lbs (I'm 5'1) when I lost it, but I have been lighter before (107) and had a healthy period. I still think I lost my period from running because I started marathon training and increased my mileage dramatically without really upping my calorie intake.

I've restored my weight back to 113 lbs and I haven't ran since January, so it's been 6 months without exercise. Running was my biggest form of stress relief and energy exertion, I've tried to find other things but nothing else has worked like running has. My mental and physical health has declined significantly since I stopped running and started eating in a surplus. I actually feel the least healthy I've ever felt. I don't feel like this is good for me.

I'm really wanting to go back to maintaining weight and running. My dietician wanted me to get to 130 lbs which I completely disagree with. The healthiest I've ever felt was last summer when I was maintaining 112-117lbs and running 3x a week.

Should I keep trying to gain weight or move to maintaining? I just feel horrible and sick, no energy, gut problems, mood problems, sleep problems.

How to stop thinking about my chronic illness and just live life?

Last year I developed some kind of chronic GI condition. I experience basically every GI symptom minus vomiting. Appetite loss, constant burping, extreme bloating, painful gas, reflux, nausea, regurgitation, intermittent diarrhea/constipation, food sensitivities, weight loss. The big one is the pain, my stomach just hurts 24/7. I've had nearly every test under the sun and still have more to do. Not a single intervention has worked, no answers, no diagnosis.

I was in such a great place right before I got sick, I got the job I've been looking at for years, made a ton of friends, bought an apartment, was getting perfect grades at college, then it all suddenly fell apart. I believe it's my fault, too. I started dieting and obsessively running, lost my period. I work with wild animals and never practiced proper hygiene. I went on a high dose PPI for a month then stopped abruptly. All these line up too well with my symptom onset and worsening. I regret everything and hate myself for it.

My symptoms are uncomfortable but I know they're not going to kill me and I have all the time in the world to figure it out. My biggest problem is honestly that it's all I can think about. I spend all day and night researching, looking over my labs and test results, trying to piece something together. I can't focus on everyday tasks because it just haunts me that nobody knows what's wrong with me, how to treat me. I'm convinced that every second that I'm not getting better, I'm getting worse, even though I know this isn't true and my condition, although painful, has been actually extremely stable & consistent for the past 4 months. I don't trust doctors anymore. My personality is completely gone. I'm a shell.

I don't know what to do. I want to hear from other people on how I can distract myself from my symptoms and regrets and go back to living my life. I have everything set up for me to have a great future, I just cannot get through this mentally.

Lost period without losing weight?? Questioning diagnosis and treatment

Hi, I haven't had a period since September, so it's been 9-10 months. 4 months ago I was diagnosed with hypothalamic amenorrhea, and since then I have been working on recovering it by cutting out exercise and increasing caloric intake. I'm nearly at the weight I was when I originally lost my period.

I never questioned the diagnosis of hypothalamic amenorrhea because I was running more than I should have (ended up badly hurting my foot, oops) and counting my calories at the time I lost my period. I'm looking back at my chart though and it looks like from July-November I only lost like 1 or 2 lbs. The majority of my weight loss occurred months after I lost my period (I started having GI problems which got in the way of me eating). I've actually been far thinner, eaten far less, and been far more stressed before in my life while maintaining a completely healthy cycle.

This is making me question the diagnosis of HA and if increasing caloric intake is the proper treatment. My BMI was 21 when I lost my period. And even at my absolute lowest weight, I still had a healthy BMI of 17.8. I've recovered 10 lbs, now at a bmi of 20.2 through force feeding and hospitalization. I'm still having significant GI problems so maintaining a calorie surplus is very difficult. I have not seen an endocrinologist or gynecologist, I was diagnosed by a hospital that I went to when I was experiencing the worst of my GI symptoms (24/7 diarrhea, crippling pain, regurgitation, appetite loss + early satiety). They were actually very dismissive and refused to diagnose me with a GI condition, instead told me I had anorexia nervosa and anxiety.

I'm just making this post because I want to hear what other women experiencing amenorrhea think of my situation. I would love to have a functioning reproductive system + hormones but it's almost not worth all the pain and symptoms I'm experiencing, especially since I don't know if it will actually bring back my period. Would it be worth it to go to an endocrinologist/gynecologist to get a second opinion? Which one should I go see?

Will MCT oil empty faster than regular oil?

Hi I'm trying to recover from hypothalamic amenorrhea (loss of period due to energy deficit). My dietician wants me eating at least 60g fat a day to recover. I'm not diagnosed with gastroparesis specifically but I do have overall motility issues and reflux, and suspect intermittent gastroparesis. Have been really really struggling eating higher fat meals.

I know liquid fats tend to fare better than solid fats. I've heard MCT oil specifically is digested faster. Have any of you guys had luck with it? It's not very cheap so I thought I'd ask before buying a bunch.

How important are dietary fats? Experiencing digestive issues

I have a lot of digestive problems & am basically incapable of eating 2500+ calories in a day. Can't eat a whole lot of things. Living mostly on simple things like meats, rice, potatoes, cooked veggies. I stopped exercising & hoped this would be enough but it hasn't proven to be. I'm having a problem especially with fats right now. Every time I eat oil or especially nut butters I'll have reflux and be burping and regurgitating my food for hours.

Essentially I'm wondering what the minimum amt of dietary fats I need to recover are, and if upping protein + carbs could be enough. I can tolerate some minimal fats, but scaling them proportional to protein & carbs is proving very difficult. I'm interested in adding mass gainer shakes to increase calories without adding bulk, to replace the calories lost from fats.

Hypothalamic Amenorrhea - could it cause/contribute to SIBO?

I was looking back at my timeline and I haven't had a period since September (I started long-distance running and got overzealous) and I started developing SIBO symptoms in November. I have been putting off trying to go all in to recover my period because

  1. I always thought that they were disconnected events.
  2. The gut symptoms are far more uncomfortable than just a missing period.
  3. It feels impossible to be eating in an extreme calorie surplus with the symptoms I'm having. I have zero appetite and struggle to eat more than twice a day. Pain scales proportionally with amount/variety of food I eat.
  4. I feel like the nutrient malabsorption and bodily stress caused by the SIBO would prevent my period from recovering

I wonder, though, if the hormonal shift caused by the HA could possibly cause the SIBO? Is anyone else experiencing both HA and SIBO? And more importantly, has anyone cured SIBO by recovering their period? Is this a worthwhile experiment?

GI-MAP: can I put stool from multiple days in the vial?

From what I hear the microbiome is really variable depending on the day, and some pathogens pass intermittently. A lot of stool tests have you take samples over 3 days. I have the GI-MAP test but I can't send it out until Monday. I was wondering if I could put stool from multiple days in the vial? Would this make it more accurate/give it a better chance of catching a pathogen? Or would it be less accurate?

Nutrition / meal replacement shakes?

Hi all, I have a very poor appetite and have been struggling to get enough calories. Low-FODMAP has been exacerbating this like crazy, but it's the only thing that has kept me from being horribly sick. I would really benefit from a meal replacement shake to help me get through the day. I tried OWYN shakes but I don't think the pea protein sits well with me.

Does anyone know of any good meal replacement shakes that are low-fodmap but aren't insanely expensive (looking at you, elemental diet)? Or, if anyone has a recipe for an at-home one, that would be nice.

SIBO Specific Diet?

I was on just the Low Fermentation Diet for 2 months but it wasn't enough, so I've been Low FODMAP for 2 months but I'm still gassy. I'm getting really sick of the restrictions but also really sick of the symptoms.

Who all has tried Dr. Siebecker's SIBO Specific Diet? Did you feel like it helped significantly? I'm a little reluctant about it because I feel like I've reacted poorly to fibrous things like broccoli, peas, brussels sprouts, etc but they're allowed on the diet. Is it essentially just low-FODMAP without starches/grains/sugar?

I'm considering it because I feel super inflamed and I know the SIBO Specific Diet is backed by the Specific Carbohydrates Diet which is highly anti-inflammatory

Fasted for 48 hours and it wrecked me

I've heard about extended fasts as a potential method to cure SIBO so I wanted to do a practice run of a 48 hour fast over the weekend. Made sure to stay hydrated and manage electrolytes. Broke it gently with some carrot juice which I saw someone else do.

Yesterday and today I've been eating only very safe foods (meat + rice) but have been having some of the worst symptoms I've ever had. So bloated I feel nauseous, heartburn, regurgitating, nose running. Stomach sounds like an alien. I have never reacted to these foods like that. Is this normal after a short fast? Did I fuck myself up?

Cymbalta + Intuniv

Hi, my psychiatrist is wanting to prescribe me cymbalta and intuniv for my anxiety/paranoia and adhd. I have heard that these have some anticholinergic effects and so I'm a little reluctant to take them as I'm trying to heal from SIBO. Has anyone been on either of these medications with SIBO?

Stopping a PPI cold-turkey completely shut down my MMC

I don't know what to do about this. 5 months ago I was on a omeprazole for gastritis & lpr. They only gave me 2 months supply and never told me to taper off so I stopped cold turkey. My MMC completely stopped after that (I don't get hungry and my stomach never growls) and obviously got SIBO from that. I tried to go back on the PPI for a little while but the damage was already done. I don't know what to do about it. Everyone says PPIs are so bad for you and they cause SIBO but mine was caused by STOPPING it. It just doesn't make sense to me. I've tried all kinds of prokinetics and supplements but NOTHING works.

I don't know what to do??? Endoscopy confirmed my stomach is scarred but no longer actively inflamed. My story is just so different from everyone else's it confuses me so much. I've been unbearably sick for months and nothing has worked. I'm afraid it'll never come back. Feeling hopeless.
