Solo recommendations part 2 - Ice machines and packs

So many people rave about ice machines but when I look at them I see a pretty unwieldy heavy looking couple of hoses with a thing that looks to have to be velcroed on. Or the hose weight will keep pulling it off I cant imagine trying to vel ro that on by myself e erytime I get up to pee or eat.

Is that right or no? Anyone have an ice machine easy to use? Lightweight? That they love?

Stay away froms?

Same for ice packs. So.e people love them some complain about weight.

How do they, either work for biceps? Im getting shoulder and bicep.

Freezable high protein meals

Rotator cuff surgery early Oct. Ill be on my own after a week. In a sling for another 5 weeks (6 total) and limited use and light weight after. (I have le creuset pans lol). My other arm isnt great either.

I really need to prep high protein meals to freeze preferably without a ton of carbs as my blood sugar is borderline. Just take off the foil, put in a bowl and microwave would be great.

I will buy chicken breasts and hamburger to cook and freeze and maybe a chuck roast or two.

I dont want to use rotisserie chicken and dont like thighs.

Right now I plan on chili, ham and bean soup and meatballs as I do those regularly for winter as I tend to get SAD here in the dark frozen north.

Recipes or casseroles that include veggies would be great.

Thank you.

Solo experience with dressing requested

Ill be asking a series of questions for those who have gone through this solo.

For those who have had to dress themselves for most of the whole time (Ill have help for a week)

First up - dressing. There seem to be several approaches

Stretchy big t shirts that you pull over your sling arm then head then other arm. Using your other arm to pull down the back.

Button ups. Pull sleeve over sling arm then a big reach around the back to grab the other arm

Snapped, velcroed or buttoned adaptive shirts that require a lot of manipulation

Step through a t-shirt neck and? Sling arm then other arm. Would require a stretch shirts or zipper?

Thought I could cut the neck on of a t shirt and add a button or snap. Easier maybe than a whole bunch of snaps.

Surgery will be on my left non dominant arm. BUT my right arm hurts now too and I wont bexsurprised if I end up finding partial tears in it too doen the road.

=> the dressing options where I have to reach behind my back arent going to help.

Id like to source a bebb's Willow or take cuttings of either bebbs or pussy Willow if you were amenable.

Realize this is a shot in the dark.

MRI report is in

Not sure what to think. Lots of "you are old" sort of words lol. (Turning 70). Im in a little discomfort when I move my arms more than a little but not bad unless I move fast or just push it. Its not as strong. My bicep definately feels sore sometimes but its not agonizing or anything. Pre MRI PT didnt improve much, more like just time the pain quieted down.

Been reading on here waiting to get to this point but there is a lot I dont understand re the medical terminology.

My bicep is sore a lot but tendinosis doesnt seem like a tear or operable? I cant get a handle on the tendonosis thing or why it stays sore. What is it exactly if not a tear? The one tear I have is described as in the middle, not top or bottom and also not necessarily surgical.

Im not sure whether to be glad I might not have surgery or be upset that all this is probably never actually going to get better.

From google

high-grade intrasubstance tear of the supraspinatus tendon is a severe partial-thickness internal injury where damage is located deep inside the middle of the tendon fibers without breaking through to the top or bottom outer surfaces.

Treatment options

Non-surgical care: Doctors usually start with physical therapy, resting the arm, modifying your daily movements, and using anti-inflammatory medicines or targeted injections to calm pain.

Surgical care: If conservative treatments do not help after a few months, or if the internal damage causes severe ongoing weakness, an orthopedic doctor may suggest an arthroscopic procedure to clean or repair the damaged tendon area.

Appellate court judges

Or any judge race, it seems awful hard to find actual info. Just where they went to school, where they worked.

How do you decide?

2" vs 4" plow on gravel road discussion

I live on a private gravel road in the north, lots of snow.

One of the neighbors always makes a big deal that tge guy we hire be on a 2" plow "contract".

Then bitches because the guy doesnt always do it to his satisfaction.

His reasoning is that a 4" plow ends up getting more ice build up that turn into troughs later in the season and that causes pot holes.

Idk what to think. The road seems fine to drive to me. Its only a little over a quarter mile. This guy is obsessed with the road in all respects so I dont know whether he is exaggerating.

From my perspective on my driveway I get a lot of gravel pushed down to the bottom (my driveway is a downhill slope to the house and its a complete pia) and wonder if a 4 inch plow would cause less gravel movement. Which seems like it would cause fewer pot holes on the actual road.

Does a 4" really lead to pot holes?

Why do people post with pictures of themselves when asking nonrelevant question or general post?

For example in a medical group someone just posted a question has a specific medicine ever made anyone nauseous. Posted with a picture of themselves in a chair looking at the camera. Happens in a variety of non relationship related forums for no particular reason. Usually women, not always made up or particularly attractive.

Its not a big deal but it tends to throw me. I dont particularly want to see pictures of people. I just dont like it. Distracting at the least.

And I dont understand it. It seems like attention seeking, compliment seeking, sympathy seeking, something.

Starting search from scratch, zero updated knowledge

My tv is going, wonky colors coming and going.

I think its a 48" maybe 50. Samsung Qn50Q60AAFXZA

That size or slightly bigger, no bigger than 55

Lots of windows and light in room, no curtains or shades

I dont see that well (super think glasses, 70 yrs old) especially low light. So dont like deep blacks or dark tv's. They fIlm scenes so dark sometimes I cant tell whats going on

I have a Best Buy and Costco for brick and mortar

Budget? Not sure whats reasonable these days. Couple thousand?

Why does everyone talk so loud?

70f, visiting friend from high school. She talks so loud. No, her hearing is fine. She gets louder as the night wears on and the wine hits. Like geezus do the neighbors need to hear?

A different friend, same, without the wine or increasing volume. Like Im right here in the room with you, my hearing is fine. I always feel guilty for not spending time with her son like she asked, he was living in my town for school. Huge booming voice, really loud.

Neighbor women, so loud. Always "yelling" at her husband, with her neighbor friend across the street, along with a huge cackling laugh. She's a bossy attention seeker so at least I get it as part of her personality. Her husband talks in a normal voice and he is hard of hearing. However he plays his radio music at high volume which drives me nuts.

I would love for people to be aware of all the noise they make and the volume of their talking voices.

Older dystopian sci fi novel with drone swarms

Idk how old this book is, 40 years? since I read it. It was a dystopian future world, authoritarian givt, world? Govt. People very oppressed. Any attempts at trying to fight the govt is hampered by swarms of tiny drones that can go everywhere. I dont remember much else other that the author had recently blown up with his first big book, dont think it was sci fi necessarily. Historical fiction?

Double check first dose

This came from EliLilly with a special note saying the normal 0.5ml needles weren't included but 1ml instead. Then draw and inject 0.5 as prescribed. Finding that confusing. My brain shorts out at the sight of numbers.

Id like to do half or so of the 0.5 as prescribed. So draw to the 0.2 or 0.3 line?

MRI contrast or no contrast?

Somewhere around March I probably did a partial bicep tear maybe also rotator idk. Seems mostly bicep related to me and since Im not in that much pain unless I move my arm certain ways or use it Im imagining partial but idk. I still have some strength.

Ultrasound, indeterminate. PT not fixing so Dr finally orders a MRI. But without contrast.

The whole tip toe through the steps is a little maddening. Ive seen reports here where upon surgery the MRI wasnt that accurate.

Should I ask my dr for contrast? Not that Id get it but...

Id lije to just figure out definately whats happened and move forward.

Do you get shoulder massages?

Im in the pre mri probable rotator cuff tear per ultrasound plus bicep always hurts going to PT phase. its not agonizing but not getting any better either.

Sometimes the PT scrapes or prods or massages my shoulder.

Is this something people also do on their own? Go to what a sports massager (masseuse)?

Is it just for comfort or therapeutic? What qualifications or type of massage?
