What's the best RSS reader for Linux?

EDIT: Thanks for your suggestions, people. It looks like Newsflash is the most popular GUI option, and Newsboat the most popular TUI one. I'll try out both. Btw you could give them some love on alternativeto.net -- it seems these options barely exist there!

Using KOReader for the first time. I must confess I'm struggling a bit

Hi, my old Kindle PW gen 3 has gone through the jailbreak process a few weeks ago and for the first time ever I'm discovering the benefits of getting out of Amazon's awful jail.

I have gone through some of KOReader menus -- it definitely has a huge amount of settings and possibilities that I barely imagined before. Setting up text format with more liberty (my initial goal for jailbreaking) was barely the beggining!

I must confess though that the interface is painfully complicated for new users who are coming from your typical GUI -- the questionable location of some buttons (I mean, some as basic as the one to go back to the library or to the previous menu), the constant appearance of obscure settings that have no reason to exist when you are reading...

I recently learned about SimpleUI, which I guess must be a popular plugin around here, and at least it solved some of my issues with the "home screen".

However, I still struggle with some stuff that I can't and won't ever get used to -- that intricate top bar, the rather ugly interface that pops up when I press the screen while reading a book...

Are there plugins that could help me simplifying the whole KOReader experience? :-(

"Hallucination" problems are frequent on Lumo -- and I'd argue even worse than in ChatGPT

First, I hate the word "hallucination". I know it's stupid and not appropriate but I'll use it for practical reasons.

Second, Proton has sold us Lumo with the idea that it, supposedly, hallucinates way less than other models like ChatGPT or Claude -- and that, when it doubt, Lumo will choose to warn us about it instead of simply asserting something.

I'd been using Lumo for a week now and I can comfortably say that not only it seems to "hallucinate" more than ChatGPT, but even worse, it's not cautious at all, therefore it keeps asserting information that is factually and plainly wrong.

Thankfully, I know one or two things about the stuff I've been asking Lumo about and I also have some critical thinking, so it hasn't taken too much for me to ask something like "are you really sure about X or Y?" to have Lumo revise its answer and finally put out something like "yeah you are right, that is not correct, I should have... yada yada yada".

I understand that from a technical standpoint -- smaller datasets and I guess more limited models -- Lumo is still behind ChatGPT and others, which I think is fine as even Proton seems to acknowledge said reality and claim that they prefer security and privacy over "better results". I mean, that's the whole reason why we prefer to use Lumo over ChatGPT for certain things and it's ok.

However, claiming stuff like Lumo hallucinates way less and in case of doubt it will tell you about it instead of asserting wrong facts is terrible, because it's not true and sells new users the expectation of Lumo being more trustworthy than ChatGPT, when clearly that shouldn't be the case.

What has been your experience?

Can I still use gen-1 bulbs remotely?

Hi, I still have a 1st generation starter kit, with the rounded bridge and three bulbs.

I know that the first-gen bridge is no longer supported. However, I was wondering if I could get a 2nd-gen bridge, install it, connect my 1st gen bulbs and use them properly from the app, Hue website, etc. (as I used to when I purchased my kit).

I remember asking the same to a Philips representative long ago and it was possible at the time, however, that was years ago and I'd like to know if that's still the case and if Philips has an official article on that.

Thanks!

EDIT: Since Philips seems to have released a lot of new stuff during these years, I'd like to know if there is some other way of giving those bulbs some life back (like with those on/off switches, etc.).

Any chance of seeing image analysis anytime soon?

I want to do AI-assisted OCR of some private writings. Obviously this is something where Lumo could bring a huge advantage over ChatGPT or others.

Is there an Instapaper app of sorts for jailbroken Kindles?

I already have KOReader and I'd be thrilled to have some app to read my Instapaper articles.

Send to kindle is a bit of a PITA so I'll pass on that.

Hi there, I still haven't jumped the fence but I'm willing to choose a GR2 as my next backpack.

One caveat I have though is how good it would go with semiformal (khaki pants with a suit jacket) and formal wear (suit both with and without a tie).

I'm always thinking, obviously, in a black GR2 + black suit (my suits are mostly black, thoug I also have a navy blue one and a super dark grey one). Regarding shirts, I use to wear light blue or white.

Also important, I'm thinking on the 34L model, which has one additional molle line compared to the 26L one -- that imho might make a sutil difference in terms of tacticoolness.

I searched in this same sub for advise and while I found some old threads, there were no photos for reference... except for one where you could barely see anything. :(

I would really appreciate it if some of you who goes with this combination daily or regularly, would be willing to take photos "modelling" from different angles and share them here. Obviously you could paint over your face.

So I bought the first gen, Emotiv Insight Wireless 5 channel EEG headset when it was launched on Indiegogo.

I was supposed to use it to research some domestic stuff, but in the end I never used it -- I just assembled it, tried it once with what I think was the iPhone app (iPhone 4 or something like that), then realized I could barely use it and just put it away in a box for what feels like decades.

Now I want to see if it's working properly. Since it's been so long now, how could I check if it's working properly in order to sell it?

FWIW, currently I use Android and Linux (though I COULD borrow an iPhone and a Windows machine). I'm not very tech-savvy btw. :)

Just a few days ago I saw a wholesome post in this sub, by someone who was carrying an old, monochrome (and authentic) Nokia as their daily driver since 2G antennas were still up in their country.

It left me with a bit of envy and thinking how awesome it would be to replicate that if possible, without the need of charging my phone more than once in a week, or the total lack of internet or "apps" of any kind (except oc for basic utilities like calendar, clock, etc.).

Then I thought... Isn't this what this sub should be about, you know... DUMBPHONES? Perhaps you wouldn't need to travel back in time that much, but at least, say, look up for something that does barely more than calling and texting?

Just a few days ago I also found out about the really interesting Jelly phones by Unihertz, and it hit me -- most people asking for this or that feature don't actually want a dumbphone, but a more reasonable, less addictive relation with their smartphone, or perhaps a smartphone that is way more simple, basic or perhaps tiny (yet a smartphone, nonetheless).

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the latter. In fact, I think it's great that people want to jump the wagon and leave behind their addictive, always-online iPhones 35 Ultra Pro Max Whatever in favor of a Jelly Star, an iPhone 13 mini or an iPhone SE -- but come on... Look at an old 2G, actual dumbphone, what it does, and tell me that the pretended ideal "dumbphone" that you are looking for that would support WhatsApp, 2FA, email, Spotify or whatnot, is not simply a purposefully dumbed-down smartphone.

Anyway. All of this left me wondering, if we had to agree on what actually makes a dumbphone, where should we draw the line? For instance, I have a crappy "Nokia" 2780, but despite its clamshell form-factor, the existence of a numeric pad and the lack of a decent touchscreen, I can still watch YouTube and browser almost any website in the world from it at any time.

Would a Mudita Kompakt fit in the category, since it doesn't have a browser or an app store, despite the fact that it has a decent-sized touchscreen and you can still "sideload" almost any app?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, specially from /u/jbriones95, since he is one of the guys that has done most about this whole movement online!
