Which days have the most students?

I am trying to think about what to do about my schedule.

Currently it's 10 - 3 & then 6 - 10 M - TH but I hardly have any bookings.

Should I change to the weekends? I also want to work with more LATAM students ... what days & times are they usually available?

I am currently studying Spanish - however I have lived in Japan for years which is why sometimes I get more Asian students... but to be honest I am more interested in teaching Latin American students at this time.

How can I change my profile to attract more latin american students? I can't really explain lessons in Spanish at this point so I have no idea what to put that would attract more of them :(

Looking to help my mom buy a small condo or cottage near lakefront next year

Hello, for context, I grew up in the Milneburg area until Katrina & am looking to return for graduate school in the area next year. I will most likely be living in the dorms.

I would like to help my mom (72) look for a small condo or cottage near Gentilly/lakefront/ lakeview/west end. The maximum budget at this time would be $300,000 & she would be able to pay in full in cash.

If she decides to purchase a small home, would she be able to receive any discounts on insurance due to her age?

Other people suggested she just rent in the area, but it would give her peace of mind to not have to deal with another landlord. West End condos seem nice but I worry about the wind damage & high HOA fees. Not really sure what other options are there other than buying a small cottage. A lot of these houses have 3+ bedrooms in them... which is way too large for just one person.

Why lakefront? : She just wants to be able to go to church & the grocery for the most part. Not really the partying type. Also, it's the area she is most familiar with, plus it's safe.

(IL) I forgot to report unemployment income since April - will my insurance be cancelled now?

I am freaking out. Before I call them on the phone to report my unemployment, which is approx. $277 a week, will they cancel my insurance? I genuinely thought I only needed to report earned income and the unemployment amount is under the income threshold so I thought I didn't need to report it unless it was over the limit.

This is my first time on Medicaid. Also, I am going to have a necessary surgery next month, so I really can't have my Medicaid being cancelled. I spent so much time doing the necessary preparation for this surgery - having my insurance be cancelled because I made a mistake will seriously negatively affect me because I am not sure when I will have another opportunity to take the time to focus on my chronic health issue.

American trying to understand Honduran politics

So my mom's side is from Honduras (Soledad, El Paraiso, but they all moved to Tegucigalpa in the 1970s I guess). From what I can tell, they are all JOH supporters. A lot of them have or had professional careers.

I honestly don't understand why so many people support JOH?

Is New Orleans better equipped than Illinois (DuPage, Cook County) when it comes to restoring power after storms?

I am a New Orleans native who never really expected long term outages except for Katrina….(moved away after that so I can’t speak about recent events)

Currently I am near O Hare, we had a “bad” storm and thousands of people haven’t had power since yesterday noon.

People are generally dry here and I feel like assistance is lacking….

I am genuinely confused and disappointed… so much for moving to a blue state I guess.

I feel like I lost the ability to perform magic

I have been through hell since I moved back to the US. I initially became interested in magic because I was in a bad situation at the time,, but I still don't feel too confident in my abilities even though I was able to escape that situation :/

I can't really tell if my magic is effective or not. Sometimes, in the past, I was just interested in doing magic. And I do honestly believe that it was a particular sigil combined with my intention that allowed me to escape a really bad situation with no human support system.

But most of the time, when I just focus on doing practical things, I feel like I get better results on average. The above experience was an anomaly.

I guess what I am asking is, what are ways you incorporate magic into your life without losing sight of the practical things you have to do? Doing the practical things alone feels so overwhelming to me right now that I have little energy left over to perform magic, but that just makes me sad.

How do you all do it?

Is it still worth it for me to become a therapist in the Deep South?

Well, I will soon be financially able to get the h out of the Midwest and move to New Orleans to start graduate school at a university in New Orleans for counseling psychology.

However, this isn't an easy city to live it, it is working class and with the ongoing war I think economically it's going to get a lot worse. But, I have an emotional connection to this place, and after going through a difficult reverse culture shock experience & losing most of my friends, living in a totally unfamiliar region within the US....I just want to go to a place that's familiar.

But what is the point of pursuing this career if the economy keeps getting worse? I feel so lost. Who am I really going to be helping?

If there is anyone who is a practicing therapist who lives in New Orleans could give me some insight, I would appreciate it.... or just anyone with some insight...

---

In preparation for this transition, I still need to undergo some type of counseling myself. This will be ongoing of course. I am extremely disappointed in the lack of support I have received from other people except for one friend from high school. Since I have returned to the US in 2024 I have:

- been trapped in the mountains due to DV, unable to receive medical care for my chronic illnesses, unable to obtain a driver's license during that time period)

- miraculously escaped with my elderly mom to a shelter (despite being humiliated by a neighbor who told us to get out of her house and walk around in the middle of the night)

- lived with my "friend" in the Midwest, who kicked us out because the situation was too inconvenient for her. I went no contact with her.

- ended up trapped in the suburbs somewhere else nearby

- despite asking for help from former "friends" they don't care enough to listen to me on a consistent basis so they basically have all ghosted me except for one. They don't know what to say to me and are uncomfortable with the pain I express.

- will undergo surgery soon and try and address my other physical health issues

* I have tried to find a therapist since I am still on Medicaid for the time being but the therapist literally was texting on his phone while I explained the aforementioned. I honestly don't know who to talk to, but I need to talk to someone.... but at the same time, I have so many issues that aren't super relatable that I honestly don't know who to reach out to. :/ I am in my 30s. I just feel that everyone else has it all together and I'm the clown, once again. I feel stigmatized, like a homeless person or something.

How is their instruction? I am considering them because the community college setting appeals to me. NOAFA seems expensive.

Can we talk about places that would be safe to live in in the US?

Like, my dream was to go back to my hometown but it's working class & disaster prone.... based on Jiang's predictions about how everything will get worse, I honestly don't even know where to go anymore.

I previously lived in Japan but I don't want to go back there. I am at a loss.

What can I take the night before my urethra surgery for panic/insomnia?

So this is my first major surgery :/ Super nervous, but gotta get this over with. As the date approaches I really haven't been able to sleep at all and I have become nocturnal. I have been resorting to edibles but idk man not really working :/

I have a sensitive stomach (in fact my stomach has been severely bloated today bc I had the audacity to eat spicy food last night I guess) and have malabsorption issues, which are still under investigation, but I might have MCAS/ gluten intolerance :/

I am not supposed to take blood thinners a week prior.

BTW they're going to reattach my urethra to my kidney & then place a stent inside which I will have to have inside my body for 6 weeks.... T-T I actually have a problem with frequent urination that is apparently unrelated to this, but I am also concerned I will wake up during surgery... because well, I usually wake up every night to pee :/ and it's causing me to panic a little.

What type of allergy test should I ask when I go to the doctor's?

I am getting a medical clearance this month for an unrelated surgery (I have a narrow urethra which causes my kidney to swell) and while I'm there, I'd like to really get some tests related to my symptoms.

I think I may have some type of gluten sensitivity, but I have been cutting out most gluten for years. I don't eat bread and I hate pasta. I eat mostly fish, eggs, fruits, veggies, meat, and rice. No sugar since I don't like sweet things either.

I am honestly not sure which foods actually trigger me. I remember times where I drank milk and my stomach hurt but other times where nothing happened.... also not too sure about rice :/ All I know is I absolutely cannot handle beer, pasta, and bone broth. Since I drank some homemade BB a few days ago I feel like I've been having gastroparesis and feel high.

I was just trying to get some nutrients in my body before I undergo surgery........... :'( But it looks like I can't even handle that. SO freaking frustrating.

I am really having a hard time understanding why:

- my bones crack (no pain, but they crack)

- I still have bad digestion. Malabsorption is clearly going on here. I lost weight at 26 years old, it was so much people thought I wasn't eating. I WAS EATING, but 6 years later, I am still not at my desired weight.

- Vitamin D deficiency & anemia ( I almost passed out a few times because of this)

- frequent urination./ urgency. This issue is making me agoraphobic. Since I returned to the US, it's difficult for me to go places that take over 20 minutes to travel to. This issue was more manageable when I lived in a walkable area in a smaller country ... but here in the US with the large distances from place to place this frequent urination issue is absolutely driving me insane. It also interrupts my sleep.

^ Not sure if this is connected to digestion. I remember when I went to my urologist to do a bladder test, and they were surprised that my bladder was extremely full. Well, I didn't poo when they did the test. Next time, I used the toilet for #2 before doing the bladder test and they were surprised it was empty...

Other health information:

- I have always had grass pollen allergies, also had bronchitis (?) as a child (but I'm not sure if that was related to the environment I was living in - there are a lot of petrochemical plants near the place I grew up -> see "Cancer Alley")

- But then again, when I lived in Japan, I always got sick during seasonal changes & had spring allergies of course. I also had difficulties breathing at times due to the pollution from China...

MY CONCLUSION: I'm going to ask for a celiac test and diabetes test. Not sure what other types of tests I should think about asking? Is there a histamine allergy test?

Since I am unemployed & on Medicaid, I'd like to take the opportunity to really address these issues because something is clearly going on here. It's just so frustrating that I've been having a lot of these issues for 6 years already and I don't know how to help myself!!! Give me a break for once, God! I've dealt with so much these past years and I just want my health back for Christ's sake!!!

What tests should I request now?

Okay so I have multiple issues going on so bear with me here:

Symptoms I've had since forever:

anemia, bowel issues, a hatred for pasta, a dislike for beer, certain fried foods make my stomach feel upset, barrett's esophagus (?) (not sure what happened to that, it apparently went away...)

narrow urethra, hydronephrosis, slight kidney function loss (in right kidney) currently functioning at 44%

More recent symptoms:

Lost weight since 2021, bones crack, Vitamin D deficiency, brain fog, anemia still there, FREQUENT URINATION

The frequent urination is the killer for me. As I type this, I am holding in my bladder. My movement, my life, is severely restricted because of this. Today, I had to go once every hour.

I have no idea what is going on. I am actually in the process of being scheduled for surgery to address the urethra issue. I AM SO CONCERNED BECAUSE MY ABDOMEN IS GOING TO BE IN PAIN AFTER, BUT HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET UP TO GO TO THE BATHROOM MULTIPLE TIMES IF MY ABDOMEN WILL BE IN PAIN.......I also tend to hold my bladder in a lot and I don't know if I'll accidentally hurt myself during/after the surgery.....

Ugh, well apparently the urologists do not think the urethra has anything to do with the frequent urination issue. So at this point I am thinking of asking my PCP to run another blood panel or something, but which test do you guys recommend?! I am not entire sure which foods I should avoid if this in fact is a food/ gluten insensitivity but ILL DO ANYTHING AT THIS POINT

Where to buy a small house...

I am toying with the idea of moving there. For reference, I grew up in Milneburg near the lake but left after Katrina. Half of my ancestors have lived in the Gentilly area since the early 1800s. I never lived there as an adult but New Orleans honestly ticks off a lot of boxes that are important to me personally. I plan to do a lot of traveling to Latin America, and geographically New Orleans would be an ideal home base for me.

The money will be coming from a legal settlement, not my almost non-existent income, & I would like to buy in cash. If that makes a difference. I just want to know which realtors are trustworthy because believe me I know there's a lot of sketch people over there LOL.

I would be living with my elderly Honduran mom. Her relations with white/black people are kind of a hit or miss....esp. since she is hard of hearing I notice people get irritated with her since she has a thick accent. Spanish is easier for her to communicate with. So it would be helpful if the neighborhood had at least some people from Latin America. Choosing a safe neighborhood is important. Walkability is definitely ideal but I know I would have to sacrifice something.

I look white and understand the culture, I'm pretty sure I can blend in even after not living there for a long time. But I do worry about my mom, I hope she can make friends her age ;-; (70s) I doubt the white people would want to be friends with her..

Have any of you guys been to New Orleans?

I just wanted to get y'all's thoughts, since the place doesn't have strong anglo roots, I am wondering what types of impressions people from Honduras got from visiting. Did you find it strange/interesting? What parts did you like/hate? ... etc.

People from the rest of the US usually express that it's a "weird/ exotic" place, but my theory is that it's because it does not have as strong of an anglo culture like most places in the US do.

Virtual Support Groups?

Looking for support groups for adult children who experienced DV growing up. DV has been a significant adverse condition in my life as a child & unfortunately now even in my early 30s- I returned to my dad's house a few years ago and both my mom (who is now elderly & hard of hearing by this point) and I escaped last year.

Currently, we're having fun dealing with poverty right now while we wait for him to send the rest of the freaking divorce settlement money! Gotta love the patriarchy!

I see ACA is something that people recommend, but if there's any other group people recommend, lmk!

Trying to find a therapist who accepts Medicaid is difficult - even in the Chicagoland area. My first one (a social worker) apparently uses his second job as a therapist to zone out and listen to me without offering constructive advice (while texting other people). So I had to cancel future sessions with him.

Looking for virtual support groups for adult children of DV?

All of the support groups I'm seeing are for child abuse, children of alcoholic parents, but I can't find anything specific for adult children who grew up witnessing DV? I would really like to join a support group relevant to this.

Divorce asset not selling despite price being lowered each month

I don’t know what to do. I am the daughter of the divorced parties. the cabin has been on the market since Dec and only has had 1 showing. if this house doesn’t sell, my mom and I will be in a difficult situation. We just want to buy a house for ourselves so we can stabilize somewhat. I cannot find a higher paying job at all right now, plus I am on Medicaid, due for surgery next year.

I am a barista for god’s sake and she only receives 200 in social security per month. She speaks poor English and he never allowed her to work. Is it my place to tell the real estate agent to change the listing to make it more attractive to buyers? I don’t know what or if there’s anything I should do

I expressed my concerns to the attorney and she tried to calm me down by saying “dont worry, it’s selling” WHEN ITS CLEARLY NOT!!!

What course of action should I focus on?

I have been applying to jobs - no answers. even possible remote jobs - no answers. at this point, my hands are in the air. what do I need to do that I am missing? should I just give up??? I think the cards are directing me to act but what else can I do???

i don’t have many connections, idk what to do. My “friend” doesn’t even want to let me use her as a reference anymore. Sorry I wasn’t able to meet many people since I HAVE NO CAR AND I LITERALLY SPENT LAST YEAR GETTING OUT OF AN ABUSIVE SITUATION. Ugh. I just am tired of my life continuing to suck for no reason.
