Help me decide GS vs Deloitte USI?

Hey everyone,

I am a recently qualified Chartered Accountant and I’m currently stuck in a massive dilemma between two starkly different job opportunities:

Goldman Sachs – Finance Controller (Focused on internal accounting, reporting, and financial control).

Deloitte USI – Audit Senior Associate 1 (US client auditing, US GAAP exposure).

My long-term goal is to transition into corporate finance/controlling roles at major consumer brands (FMCG giants like Nestlé, Mondelez, etc.).

My biggest fear with Goldman Sachs is that the role might fix me into the financial services sector forever due to the niche nature of banking accounting. On the other hand, Deloitte USI offers broader industry exposure but lacks the standalone prestige of a top-tier investment bank on a resume.

For those who have worked in GS Finance: How difficult is it to exit to non-banking corporate roles later?

For those in FMCG: Do you prefer hiring ex-Big 4 auditors or ex-IB corporate finance/control professionals?

would love some guidance on the exit options and career trajectories for both paths.

Also, I was scrolling through the Goldman Sachs subreddit, and from what I understood, the culture there seems to be quite toxic, with no WFH as well.

How is it at Deloitte USI?

Of course, Goldman is offering significantly higher pay, but for me, peace of mind is more important, along with flexibility when it comes to WFH and leaves.

Thanks!

Controllership Role.

I’m a recently qualified CA fresher, and I recently interviewed for a Controllership/Analyst role. Does anybody here have an idea what the fixed compensation offered for this role would typically be?

Thanks.

How's the Desi Arranged Marriage scene in Canada 🇨🇦

I see many people from Canada posting their profiles on various Reddit matchmaking platforms, so I thought I'd get some perspective from people here.

I'm just trying to understand how the Canadian rishta market is for Desis.

How are offline matrimony groups/meetups and matrimonial websites?

Specifically, how is it for 1st gen immigrants Desis? Do people usually find someone within Canada, or do they eventually have to look for a match from back home? I'm referring to Indians in general, especially those who have preferences like North Indian, South Indian, language, community, etc.

Also, since Reddit is an anonymous platform, I feel many people are just lurking, wasting time, trolling, and some might even be scammers on these matchmaking subs. In such circumstances, isn't it better to look offline?

Or are offline arranged marriage networks not doing that well either? I'm just trying to understand the ground reality of the arranged marriage scene in Canada.

Since many people here are looking for a spouse through Reddit, I was curious about how the offline scene compares.

Is Canada Outsourcing Audit Work to India?

Hello accounting/auditing professionals in Canada,

Over the past few years, a significant amount of accounting, audit, tax, and finance work has been moved to India through Global Capability Centers (GCCs) or Global Delivery Centers basically its a back office. Examples include EY GDS, PwC AC, Deloitte USI, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo and more recently, I believe CIBC has also set up a GCC in India.

Most of the work I hear about is for the US, UK, Australia, and some Scandinavian countries. That made me wonder are Canadian accounting firms and financial institutions also outsourcing audit and accounting work to India to a similar extent?

If yes:

- Which firms are doing it?

- What kind of work is typically outsourced (audit support, testing, financial reporting, tax, etc.)?

- Is the trend growing, or is Canada still more conservative compared to the US and UK and holding back from venturing into this.

I'm just trying to understand how common this is in the Canadian market. Thanks in advance for sharing your insights!

Goldman Sachs

Has anyone here interviewed with Goldman Sachs for the Financial Analyst Controllers role?

I'd like to know what the Director round was like. What kind of questions were asked—were they mainly technical, scenario-based, or behavioral?

Also, does anyone have an idea about the CTC/compensation offered for the Financial Analyst Controllers role in India?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Which country assignments do you mainly work on?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to understand how client allocations work EY GDS (India) for the Assurance (Audit) practice.

For those currently working there (or who have worked there):

Which country's audit engagements do you primarily handle (US, UK, Australia, Canada, Middle East, etc.)?

Are assignments mostly fixed to one geography, or do you get exposure to multiple countries over time?

Do employees get any say in selecting or expressing a preference for the country/region they want to work on, or is it entirely based on business requirements?

Would really appreciate insights from current or former employees.

Thanks!

Am I the Only One Who Reads Profiles for Fun?

Hey, is anybody else like me lurking on this sub just to read profiles?

I haven't officially started my marriage search yet and I'm not on any matrimony platforms at the moment. Also, to be clear, I'm not looking for a spouse through Reddit. Whenever that phase of my life begins, I'd like to keep my parents involved in the process.

That said, I genuinely enjoy reading the profiles people post here. It's fascinating to see how different personalities present themselves. Some people seem incredibly interesting, some have such well written profiles that it gives me ideas on how I might draft my own biodata whenever I decide to create one in the future.

Anyone else here for any other reason? If so, what brings you to this sub?

NRI Proposals

Lately, I've been seeing quite a few posts from both men and women in the USA, Canada, Europe, and other countries talking about how difficult it has become to find a suitable spouse. It made me curious about what the desi marriage market is actually like in these countries.

For those of you living abroad, how has your experience been with finding a partner through arranged marriage or otherwise? Are you finding enough compatible matches locally, or is the pool quite limited?

If things aren't working out where you are, would you consider expanding your search to India? If yes, would you be comfortable handling the spousal sponsorship/visa process, along with the timelines and uncertainty that sometimes come with it?

The reason I'm asking is that a marriage proposal my family was pursuing was turned down primarily because of the long spousal PR processing timelines and paperwork innvolved (Canada). It left a bit of an emotional dent on me though it was quite an initial stage but I being a sensitive person took it too persona. Anyways, I've been wondering how common this concern actually is among people living abroad.

Would love to hear your experiences and perspectives. Thanks.

Newly Qualified CA's be aware.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the new CA's in town.

Many of you might feel pressured to join mentorship or placement workshops that promise guidance for jobs and personality development. I also joined one such workshop in Feb and honestly felt disappointed with the classes.

Most of the content shared in these programs is already freely available on YouTube, LinkedIn, and other platforms. Things like building a Naukri profile, LinkedIn profile, resume making, interview tips, and networking can easily be learned online without paying huge amounts.

These workshops market themselves as if there guidance can land you some big shot job, and at one point you start believing that too. But in reality, jobs depend on many factors like attempts, rank, communication skills, market conditions, and most importantly vacancies. Such courses play only a very small role.

I also realized that many successful people shown in their promotions were already capable and hardworking individuals. Their success cannot be fully credited to the mentorship program. Only a handful from these batches get high profile roles, but their profiles are repeatedly showcased as marketing.

If someone is targeting fields like investment banking or management consulting, these roles require strong capabilities, intelligence, preparation, and effort from the candidate themselves. Sending good resumes, preparing projects, networking, and writing proper cover letters matter much more.

I am writing this post only to make others aware before spending large amounts on short duration workshops that may not be worth the money. I literally paid an amount equal to my FR and AFM classes for one such program.

Please explore the many free resources available online before investing in expensive mentorship courses.

Side note: I do feel such programs can still be somewhat helpful for people who are completely new to networking, LinkedIn, resume building, or speaking in interviews and HR discussions who probably do not have decent communication skills. For someone who lacks guidance or confidence, they may provide some structure and direction. But please evaluate carefully whether the value provided justifies the high fees charged.

Jan 26 Qualified CA and still jobless.

Results for May 2026 are about to be announced, and I guess many Jan 2026 pass outs who are still looking for jobs might be feeling nervous or anxious.

How are you planning to navigate your job search journey? Also, if you're still unemployed, what are the reasons behind it?

In my case, I wanted to join a global practice. I interviewed with EY GDS, but the onboarding was scheduled for September, so I decided not to accept the offer. I also couldn't attend the PwC AC interview since it was being conducted physically on campus and I wasn't able to make it. Deloitte USI has only recently started hiring Jan 2026 pass outs. As for KPMG Global, I'm not sure whether they're hiring because I haven't come across any recruitment drives from them.

Would like to hear everyone's experiences and plans.

Deloitte-USI interview.

Has anyone here interviewed with Deloitte USI and not gotten selected? If yes, could you share the reasons or any feedback you received?

Also, those who did get selected, please share your interview experience, the difficulty level, and any tips on what topics to prepare. :::

This sounds polite, clear, and is likely to get more responses.

Tea on Sana and Sajan Family?

Any tea on Sana Sajan? I don't know, I'm just not able to understand whether she's organic or if she's putting on a show.

I feel at times she's too good to be true. Idk why, but she gives me strong Miss Know-It-All vibes. I've watched a few of her podcasts and she pretends she's a very well-read woman with knowledge about everything. She promotes herself as a doctor, entrepreneur, artist, athlete and what not. But the business was started by her FIL.

Her wedding articles, where she wore what I personally thought were horrendous outfits, presented her cruise wedding as some huge thing and kept calling her a beauty queen. Beauty is subjective, I know, but I genuinely didn't understand the hype. The whole thing felt like media-churned PR articles rather than organic coverage.

She also presents herself as this very graceful and sophisticated woman, but at times it comes across as really pretentious to me.

I've seen so many PR-run articles about this family. To the point where I even stalked the Instagram profiles of Rizwan Sajan's brother and relatives, and it honestly seems like some Bollywood circus and clownery is happening. I just can't take them as serious, classy business people. It feels like there's an obsession with fame and publicity.

So people from Dubai, or anyone who knows the Sajan family, could throw some light on who exactly they are? Are they genuinely that influential and admired, or is it mostly PR and branding? Am I the only one getting these vibes?

Question for NRI Guys

NRI guys, especially those who have already secured Green card/PR/citizenship abroad,

Would you consider searching for a girl back home in India or would you rather look for an Indian girl who is already settled abroad? And what would be the reason behind that choice?

Is it mainly because of immigration/visa timelines, lifestyle compatibility, or something else?

For those who prefer girls already abroad, do you feel they are generally more compatible with your lifestyle and future plans?

And for those who look back home, what are the reasons?

Could it be that:

●You weren't able to find someone suitable in your country due to factors that unfortunately matter in arranged marriage circles such as height, looks, age, income, legal status, etc. (Not trying to offend anyone, just mentioning things that often come up during the process.)

●You prefer someone from the exact same cultural background as yourself, someone who still has strong ties to family back home and shares a similar upbringing and values.

Or are there other reasons altogether?

Would love to hear perspectives from people who have already secured PR/citizenship and have gone through this process themselves.

Thanks!

Canada based proposals.

Salam everyone,

I had a query regarding the arranged marriage process and wanted to hear from people who have experience with it.

I'm currently based in India and haven't started the AM process yet. For those looking specifically at Canadian rishtas, what are the chances of finding a match while being based in India?

Before anyone jumps the gun and assumes that I'm looking at marriage purely as a means of immigration, let me clarify that I'm seeking a genuine relationship. It is quite common for a spouse to relocate to where their partner is settled, and in my case, having been born and raised abroad, I prefer to move out from here and build my life with my future spouse. Marriage is not being viewed as an immigration pathway first and foremost; rather, relocation would simply be a consequence of being in a genuine relationship and starting a life together.

Do Canadian-based guys generally prefer finding someone who is already in Canada, or are they open to matches from India and willing to travel to meet/finalize things if everything aligns?

Just looking for perspectives on how common each scenario is these days.

Please keep the discussion focused on this question only and not on debates about immigration, the Canadian job market, or motivations for seeking overseas matches.

Thanks!
