i feel rotund. when did you start to show?

I’m 15 weeks with my first tomorrow, and I’m definitely starting to feel… rotund 😂

When did you guys start to show?

ETA: I have a generally slim build at 5’7” and was about 130 lbs when I got pregnant. Not necessarily a bump but definitely round where I used to be flat

office-mate purposely covers the AC unit so no air gets out

I've been working at this organization for about a year and a half, and my office-mate and I, who share a small office, started at the same time. I deferred to her and let her pick the desk closest to the window, which is also closest to the AC/heating unit. Like, immediately next to her.

I noticed last summer that she would purposely put her sweater and bag on top of the AC to block it from blowing cool air. It's 94% humidity today. She has admittedly said she's a freeze baby, and it can get chilly in here, so I sort of get it, but sometimes it makes it noticeably stuffier in our office than in the common areas. The AC in the building as a whole is decently strong so it doesn't get crazy hot in our office but I definitely notice the stuffiness.

This summer, I'm pregnant, and my patience is a little thinner, lol. I will move her stuff off of the vents while she's at lunch and put it back before I think she's about to come back sometimes.

What do I do? I fear if I ask her to move it off, it's going to start a temperature battle and make her secretly start to resent me. She's also ten years older than me, which makes me feel like she has the upper hand for some reason too. I'm admittedly bad at any sort of confrontation. I feel like I could start saying "wow it feels stuffy in here" and alluding to the fact that it's warm.

Still have to get through July and August 🥵

friend regifted her own registry gifts as our wedding gift

So I got engaged, planned my wedding for a year later. Then about 6 months later my friend got engaged and planned her wedding for a month after mine. Totally cool, no issues there.

We’re in a group of about 7 friends that talk every day etc. so we always do group gifts for weddings and baby showers and whatnot. This group got me a handful of nice things from my registry like serving platters, a nice Le Crueset casserole dish, and a couple other small things. So grateful!

About a month before my wedding I received a package (I live further than anyone else) from the other friend getting married. Inside was… a casserole dish, a cheese knife set, and an ornament. I thought it was bizarre that she’d give me another casserole dish when they had all gotten me one. Also, the dish was completely shattered in the shipping, so I had to ask her for a gift receipt, to which she responded she would just contact Target and get a new one sent.

Then I realized, her shower was a couple of weeks before and these items were all on her registry 😂 clear as day. It made me feel like an afterthought to unload her unwanted gifts lol. This was my wedding gift from her, no card or cash. I wouldn’t mind if they weren’t such obvious regifts.

Okay just wanted to vent. Teehee, I returned them all to Target and bought her a few things off of her registry with the store credit as her wedding gift.

Movers or family help to get all the nursery furniture into my house?

So I found a whole nursery set on fb marketplace: Restoration Hardware crib, dresser, bookshelf, glider, and ottoman, all for $500. My dilemma now is moving it!! (about 17 miles/30 minutes from seller to my house). I'm 14 weeks and already strained myself lifting bags of soil so I will not be lifting anything.

My MIL suggested that her boyfriend’s nephew could bring his truck and meet us there… and have my husband and BIL help move stuff, but it will be a couple trips in a pickup truck in my opinion. She thinks two of her boyfriend's nephews will help out, but we’ve literally never met them, so idk why they would do physical labor for us for free.

Or do I just pay for movers? I’d rather not pay and save the money, but I feel like it’ll get complicated and people will whine if I go down the other route.

What would you do?

I've started asking for quotes and so far just have one for $400.

husband and father to be is refusing to sit on the couch because of a spider

I (29F) have been with my husband (30M) for about 9 years. We got married last summer and are expecting a baby boy next winter.

Yesterday, he had a spider crawl on him while on the couch, and he freaked the hell out and called on me to get out of bed and come do something about it while he stood there doing nothing not even grabbing the swatter. That pissed me off because um can you please not get your pregnant wife with a headache out of bed to kill a spider for you??

Today, he texted me at work saying “I may never sit on that couch again” then I got home and he’s refusing to sit on the couch. I even looked under the cushions and declared it spider free. He ALWAYS sits and even falls asleep on this couch… now he’s saying he’s “just switching it up” like at least admit you’re just scared??

It’s honestly (and I HATE to use this phrase) giving me a major ICK. Like we’re having a child and this is not making me feel like he can be a protective figure at all. I don’t have a major fear of spiders, still dont like them, so maybe I’m just being insensitive. I had a spider crawling on me the other day on a park bench and I swiped it off and… stayed on the bench.

Like what if there’s a spider near the changing table in the nursery? Are you never going to change a diaper again??? I just feel like he’s acting a little pathetic and now I’m acting like an asshole in return.

tl;dr my husband had a spider crawling on him on the couch and now refuses to sit on the couch.

Can I use a 42.5" tall dresser as a changing table? Or will that just be wildly uncomfortable...

I found an amazing deal on fb marketplace... $500 for a Restoration Hardware crib/convertible toddler bed, bookshelf, glider and ottoman, and a large dresser (RH Somerset Large Dresser).

Because of space, I was planning on using the dresser as a changing table, although I just found the dimensions online, and it's 42.5 inches tall... which feels like it will be uncomfortable for us when changing diapers. I'm about 5'7" and my husband is 5'11".

My dad loves a deal too and thinks it will actually be easier on our backs, but I fear that lifting the baby up onto it, especially as they get bigger, will end up being a hassle and hard on our backs anyways.

Is this just a dumb idea? Should I let it go and find something else?

how many weeks did your doctor medically certify you to not work? I'm scared I won't be able to use my sick time...

Long story short, I don't qualify for TDI/TCI at my job. I get 6 weeks paid maternity leave, then can take an additional 7 unpaid through FMLA and use my personal, vacation, and "sick time (with an accompanying doctor's note stating that you are unable to work with a start date and anticipated end date)".

In total, to cover those extra seven weeks, I'll need 245 hours of PTO to cover my normal pay.

At the time I give birth, I'll have:

  • 28 hours personal time
  • 135 vacation time
  • 172 sick time

So that leaves me in a good spot (about 335 hrs), unless I can't use that sick leave afterthe first 6 weeks of paid maternity leave... then I'll only have 163 hours to use, leaving me 82 hours (about 2.5 weeks short) that will have to be unpaid.

I'm just really sad and confused and wondering what sort of notation your doctors gave. Could she write me dates that would make me able to use my sick time after the first six weeks? I know it can be different/longer if you end up having a C-section, but I'm hoping not to have one if I can help it.

how long did you wait to have visitors after giving birth?

how long did you wait to have visitors after giving birth? I’m due December 18, so we’ve already given the family the heads up that we will not be around for Christmas or New Year’s, etc.. I was honestly planning on not having anybody over for at least a few weeks…

I live five minutes from both my father-in-law and mother-in-law. Mother-in-law will definitely want to come over ASAP, and we may allow her as a guest sooner because she will likely be helpful.

I just got so stressed out and cried last night because after we revealed the gender to both of my brother-in-law’s, one of them just started going off about how thank God it’s a boy, he can’t see my husband as a girl Dad, suggesting his own name and his father’s name as a name… which was annoying to me, but the next thing really got me.

He was like I can’t wait to meet my nephew when we come up for Christmas. They live many states away from us and will be flying up. The thought of these people getting off a plane with a bunch of germs, seeing a bunch of people for the holidays with a bunch of germs, and then coming to see our week old baby (if I even give birth on due date), just really freaked me out. We literally get sick every Christmas from being around so many people. Not to mention I’ll be recovering and probably in a diaper.

My husband told me not to worry about it, and we’ll make the boundaries clear later, but it just got me all worked up into a tizzy and made me feel super pressured. And my crazy for feeling like this? How long is reasonable to not have anybody over?

Just got an absurdly high quote for installing a mini-split AC unit... is this somewhat normal?

Had Prime Heating & Cooling of RI some by this morning and give us a quote for installing a mini-split unit (Custom Comfort brand) and I was shocked by how high the price was. He said $11,700 for one unit in our bedroom, and if we wanted to put a second one in the nursery (I'm expecting a baby this winter), it'd be $14,750.

I'm a little flabbergasted. I had expected somewhere closer to the $6,000-$8,000 range for one unit.

I had a phone call with Wakefield Heating & AC where we talked about what we'd need, and he gave me the possible range of $5,500-$6,500, although that was just based on our discussion and he hasn't actually seen the house. He did say to be wary of these companies like Prime and Superior.

Does anyone have experience installing these or having these installed, and could shed some light on this? Any recommendations or companies to stay away from?

In South County if that matters.

Edited to add: The bedrooms are on the top floor, and we’d need another condenser. Trust me, I'd use window AC if we didn't have huge horizontal sliding windows.

Recommendations for "normal" youtube vloggers that aren't filthy rich/unrelatable?

I'm almost 30, pregnant, have a huge mortgage, and have just gotten so sick of seeing the incredibly unrelatable style of vlogging of these girls with so much wealth.

Would love some recommendations for "normal" vloggers. Preferably ppl around my age (late twenties to thirties)

For instance, I love Kaelyn Gutierrez because she comes off way more normal and grateful for the things she has, and doesn't just flaunt luxury in our faces.

Any leads appreciated, lol.

Where is the best place in RI to test out strollers?

Where can I actually try out strollers like the nuna pipa, uppa baby, maxi coz, etc. before I decide on one before baby comes? I'm in South County but willing to go up to south-central MA as well.

HELP PLZ with raised ranch layout

Need some help weighing my layout options for our raised ranch we bought in October… right now, the upstairs has our kitchen, eat-in island, and a small living area. Downstairs, we have a dining table (that we’ve quite literally never used, and another little living area (filled with free furniture we’re going to replace).

Next week we’re having the wall downstairs taken down so it’ll be one big room. (all rooms pictured)

I’ve been reconsidering having the dining room table upstairs since logically it makes more sense to have it near the kitchen… I just can’t get past how we never use it or have people over for dinner parties or that sort of thing.

Another couple things to note, we’re having our first baby in December; nursery is upstairs next to our bedroom. The only mini split AC is upstairs (we’re in New England so only matters for a few months of the year). And yes, we’ll add art to the walls once we’re set on where everything is going.

I’ve attached pics of everything and a layout of how I’m imagining things.

What would you do? I’m battling logical vs practical use.

what’s my excuse for not drinking at work party?

I’m nearly 11 weeks into my first pregnancy, and we have a work get-together where my team goes out for drinks a couple times per quarter, and today we’re going to someone’s house for wine and hors d’oeuvres. I haven’t told anyone at work yet because I wanted to wait until at least after 12 weeks.

I never skip having a drink at these things, so does anyone have any good excuses for why I’m not drinking if anyone should ask? They probably won’t but I want to be prepared.

I was going to say my stomach was feeling off but then I’ll be loading my plate with snacks 😂

lifted 5 bags of soil and now a little sore at 10 weeks pregnant

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and yesterday I lifted 5 bags of 1.5 cubic ft soil into the trunk of my car from the home depot cart. I feel like my stomach is a little tight now and feel sore on my right side but especially when I move around.

Do you think I harmed the pregnancy? I hear of pregnant people deadlifting weights and all that, but I’m just nervous. I would say these bags were slightly heavier than other things I would lift like full bins of laundry, my heavy mattress corners while changing the sheets, etc.

Just looking for reassurance and I will not be lifting any more heavy things. Will bring it up at my appointment this week.

how do I protect my garden from rabbits and chipmunks?

I just got all of my plants into the vegetable garden before we’re hit with about 3 days of rain here in New England. Now I’m at a loss for how to protect them from rabbits and chipmunks.

From back to front I have tomatoes, peppers, basil, strawberries, squash, chives, and oregano. Store was out of tomato cages but will add those tomorrow.

I had purchased four 6 ft. tall metal stakes, and deer fencing to wrap around them. We had some trouble getting the first stake in even a little bit. Maybe we’ll try again after the soil is softer from the rain…

If we can’t get those stakes in, what is my best bet for protecting my veggie garden? (chicken wire, wooden stakes, etc.)? I’ll take all the advice I can get since I’m a new homeowner.

edited to add: i sloppily surrounded it with deer fencing for the time being

getting SLAMMED with high pregnancy care bills... I did not see this coming...

I'm 10 weeks into my first pregnancy, and I'm stunned at how much it is costing so early on... I just paid $400 for my first lab work last week, then I just got a text this morning saying my new balance is $481 for my first ultrasound.

I expected copays, obviously, but I did not expect them to be this high... is this relatively normal? I haven't hit my deductible yet, and thank GOD I have some savings in an HSA... I'm just shocked and at a loss as to how people who don't make much (I make like 71k) could even afford to be pregnant and receive care?!

Has anyone else been shocked at how expensive their care was so early on?! in USA. Due Dec. 18

Can I book a southwest flight and use my travel credit for reimbursement?

dave’s vs. stop n shop message cookie cakes

Just throwing this out there lol, they were the same exact price! ($13) Dave’s with the white icing, S&S with the pink & blue. I’d definitely go back to Dave’s if I ever need another message cookie cake. Both tasted great!

Last name blurred out.

please help me with a plan for my backyard

Bought our first house and moved in last October, and oh boy it was a mess. Used to be rented to college students then weekly summer rentals so the backyard was completely filled with trash, broken glass, bottles, etc.

I’ve finally cleared all that, but I’m not sure what I should do with the rest of the yard. We need to get all the weeds out, then probably spray to keep them from coming back, then mulch that whole area above the rocks? I’d also like to plant some native bushes and hostas and shade plants. Gets a few hours of sunlight per day.

Can anyone help me with a plan for this?! What order do I do everything in?

I’m 9 weeks pregnant and exhausted and my husband does manual labor for work so he’s exhausted, so we’re really considering hiring someone. Any ballpark estimates for getting this done?! We’re in RI.
