The FLQ (front de liberation du Quebec) were a terrorist group that launched attacks in Canada from 1963-70 aimed to try and get an independent socialist Quebec. In October 1970 they began what became known as the October crisis when they kidnapped provincial labor minister Pierre Laporte and British diplomat James Cross and held them for ransom. When asked by a cbc reporter how far he was willing to go to stop them, Pierre Trudeau famously responded “just watch me” and days later invoked the war measures act for the first time in Canadian history during peacetime. This gave police more power to make arrests and eventually nearly 500 people were arrested for their part in the organization. James Cross was freed after 59 days in captivity, Pierre Laporte however was found dead in a trunk of a car, killed by his captors.

A fun (literally) identification

I was outside the previous evening so it may have got on then? I didn’t see it until I had my shower this morning. There’s a purple mark on my leg where it bit. Tick was quite small probably just over 0.5cm at its biggest. I’ve never had a tick before so I’m worried.
