The Po Valley in Northern Italy apparently has the highest biodiversity rate in Europe. What is the reason for this considering how anthropized is that territory?

My girlfriend gets discriminated for being Australian in Europe. How can I deal with this?

I'm swiss and I live in Switzerland with my australian girlfriend. Lately she's been feeling very sad because she believes she's being discriminated against for being Australian.

Some people have made mean comments such as "she's ugly because Australians have British genes" and people also keep saying to her australia has no culture. The first time something like this happened, she laughed it off. However, similar incidents have occurred more often since then.

She says that people don't like her, and some women at work make fun of her accent. All of this has been making her feel increasingly upset and isolated.

I suggested that we move to Australia together, thinking she might feel more comfortable there, but she doesn't want to leave Switzerland.

What can I do to help her feel better and support her through this situation?

Why does northern Italy, despite its latitude (and excluding the Alps, of course), have a humid subtropical climate unlike the rest of Europe?

According to Köppen New Zealand is one of the world's most climatically homogeneous countries (mostly oceanic from north to south). In contrast, Italy -similar size and comparable latitudes in the opposite hemisphere- has about 9 additional climate types, including humid subtropical, arid and tundra

Why is New Zealand so much colder than Italy despite the countries' similar latitudes (in opposite hemispheres)?

Also in my experience the ocean in NZ is kinda freezing all year round even in its warmer parts. While the Med can get very hot.

TIL: Part of the Amazon rainforest is actually in the European Union. French Guiana, located in South America, isn't just a dependency but an integral part of France and the EU, much like Alaska is a full part of the US.
