Single Player games with very satisfying melee focused combat?

Hello I am looking for a single player games that have very satisfying melee combat. The combat that truly feels like it "hits" not the type where the animation feels no different than when you're hitting a wall.

I very very much dislike the combat of almost every Souls Game I've tried (For example Elden Ring), along with Monster Hunter games.

So please no Souls games for the suggestions.

Clerics & Ravenloft?

Hello, my 2nd campaign will be coming up in the next couple months, and I have begun my pre-planning. It will be set in Kartakass. My question is, especially as the players will have been born in Kartakass, if one poses the question "How does a Cleric work?" what's the answer?

I recognize with those pulled into Barovia, you lose your connection to your diety, but retain the powers. You just simply cannot feel their presence. But what if you never came from a world that understood or heard of deities? What could their deity or in spot of, be?

Thinking of multiclassing, any ideas?

Hello! I am playing a:
Great Old One Warlock (Lvl 3)
Invocations:
Beguiling Influence
Eldritch Mind

Pact Boon:
Pact of the Tome

I wanted to make my character a bit more of a buffing character - aiding my party rather than damage. So I was thinking Divine Soul Sorcerer, or perhaps Bard?

We just levelled up to level 4 and are deciding what to do during the week, and i’m sure to just keep going with Warlock or multiclass into something else

Any ideas?

Now that time has settled, how are we feeling about 5.5e?

Hello, I have been DMing for the last 40 sessions, and the campaign will be coming to it's close in just over 10 sessions from now.

With that I've begun thinking of the next campaign, and changes I will make - one of those is possibly changing from 5e to 5.5e

We are a heavy roleplay group who put combat on the backburner, and will be more of a low fantasy, grounded experience, who do not minmax.

Those who have played both, and more importantly ran both, how has the experience been? We are intrigued by 5.5e but unsure to make the switch for next campaign or not, we like some of the balancing changes.

Best beginning to CoS?

Hello there, I have watched a lot of people play CoS, played it myself (three times!) and nearly every single time the beginning / intro / how the players get into Barovia has been difference!

I’ve been tricked by a mysterious man
I’ve woken up from a drunken night
I’ve been up front to from a mysterious man

Etc etc

What would you consider is the best beginning / Start to CoS or the one you’ve liked the most?

Can someone help me produce higher quality sound with my Shure Sm7db?

Hello, I have a Shure Sm7db, and I have loved it largely, and wanted to get "better" and begin looking at the EQ and such and learn, and find I only really make things worse. I will list what I have below to give you a gauge of what's going on.

For note: I have a rather noisy room, and noisy area (I live next to a highway + an airport, can't get much worse than that for noise...) I have a minor speech impediment so my S's are sharp so I'd prefer if those were cut. I would like my voice to sound rather "bassy" but not muddy.

Back of mic:
Bass Rolloff: Off
Presence Booster: Off
Bypass: Turned to Preamp
18+/28+db: 18+db is fine

Expander:
Ratio: 2.00:1
Threshold: -42db
Attack: 5ms
Release: 100ms

Compressor:
Ratio: 3.00:1
Threshold: -20db
Attack: 10ms
Release: 100ms

Limiter:
Threshold -2b
Release: 1ms

EQ: (I want to add more like total of 6 or 8, I just find the more I use the more I mess up)
Very High (10khz): +2db
High (6khz): -2
Mid (2500hz): -1.5db
Low (250hz): +2.5db
Very low (80hz) +3db

Vampire book reccomendations?

Hello there, I want to read a well written Vampire book, other than Dracula by Bram Stoker (Already read)

Some of my favourite books at the moment:
Vladimir Nabokov's: Pale Fire
John Steinbeck's: East of Eden
Jane Austen's: Sense and Sensibility

I'd prefer something dark, with that sort of immersive world that sucks you in from the descriptions of the scenes. My favourite author similar to Tolstoy, someone who doesn't miss gestures, and everything always feels real. While I love some like Dostoevsky's work, as an author it feels like reading a play, where I prefer someone who meticulously writes the details.

Magic weapon ideas for a barbarian who wants to feel feral?

Hello, I am trying to design a magic weapon for my barbarian player who wants to play very feral / wild.

I am looking for any ideas if anyone has any or if you guys like any of the ones I thought of most, I would want the item to be roughly rare in quality?

The ideas I have so far:
+1 1d8 Claws (For all)
1. While raging, once on each of your turns, if you move at least 20 feet straight toward a creature immediately before hitting it with a melee attack using this weapon, the attack deals an additional 1d8 damage.

If the target is below half its hit point maximum, the extra damage increases to 2d8 instead.

2. Once per turn while raging, when a creature within your reach damages you, you may use your reaction to move up to half your speed directly toward that creature without provoking opportunity attacks.

If you end this movement within range, you may immediately make one weapon attack against them.

You cannot use this feature if you are frightened, restrained, or incapacitated.

3. The first time each turn you reduce a creature to 0 hit points while raging, you gain the following benefits:

  • Gain temporary hit points equal to your Barbarian Level
  • Force one creature within 10 feet to succeed on a Wisdom save (DC = 8 + proficiency + Constitution modifier) or become frightened of you until the start of your next turn

4. If you hit a creature that is medium or smaller after moving at least 20 feet toward it, the target must succeed on a Strength save or be knocked prone.

What books would you suggest for someone who loves eloquent, almost poetic language?

Hello, I am seeking some book / author recommendations that have been written by those who have a very large emphasis for eloquent language, that is almost poetic or lyrical to read or even just pristine.

I have recently gotten into Vladimir Nabokov and absolutely adore his writing style.

Anything from History, or Fiction of any kind is preferred, but not required. Whether it be historical fiction, or adventure, you name it - as long as the author matches I am more than willing to give it a go.

I have Deekin as my follower, and he only has a crossbow. No melee weapon in his inventory or equipped. He has plenty of bolts and spells. Yet when we fight people he has a constant need to stand right next to them, draw aggro since my AC is so much higher, and shoot them difficulty since he decided to be point blank range.

It basically gets him killed everytime due to his poor AC, and low HP.

I've tried telling him, don't attack till I do, to stay a LONG distance away from me, etc etc, but he just has this odd heroic suicidal tendacy to face tank everything with his crossbow in hand. Literally everything. It's fine when nit's just 1-2 enemies but when there are a large group of 4+ he just gets demolished instantly and I am sent to 1v4 them now, making it impossible, and waste a lot of healing on him that I shouldn't normally have to do.

He does have the point blank feat which I think is why his AI is telling him to kill himself, for that sweet sweet +1 to hit. He is really showing his -1 wis off.

Hello,
I wanted to update my FoundryVTT to the latest version, as I have been on 13.51 for a while now, and think the new update could be cool. I checked the compatibility, and the only modules that were not were simply things that now became native in Foundry.

I updated properly, with a fresh re-install at the newest version, made a backup, etc etc.
My modules, and world looked and acted perfectly fine, no crashing, nothing weird - until I noticed there were not a single actor. No player actors, no NPC's. Nothing! I double clicked an NPC token on the map and it appeared with a yellow bar message saying:
"Actor does not exist in this world"

And at the bottom of the right hand side of the actors tab it said:
335 Unavailable Token Documents

I wondered if it was any module that affected tokens such as token variant art, token fx, etc and turned them off, but it changed nothing.

I reverted back to my old version on 13.51 and everything is back to normal.
