What chennai means to you?

Girlies who lived or are living in Chennai (or for that matter any mega cities) particularly those who migrated from village or 2/3 tier cities, what Chennai means to you?

Let me start. For me Chennai is freedom!

What life skill would you want your kid to learn on an online platform

My dear wonderful mother's out here, What practical life skills do you wish your child learned before becoming an adult?

I'm exploring an idea for a platform that would help children develop practical life skills alongside their regular education.

The focus would be on things that are useful in everyday life but may not always get enough attention in school - ideally through interactive and practical experiences rather than just videos or lectures.

I'm still in the very early research stage, so I'd really appreciate honest opinions from parents before I take this any further.

A few questions:

  1. What are the top 3 things you wish someone had taught you before you became an adult?

  2. What practical skills do you think children today are missing?

  3. How would you prefer your child to learn these skills - short interactive activities, games/simulations, projects, guided courses, or something else?

  4. What would make you feel that a platform like this is genuinely worth your child's time?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from parents of children around 9-12, but parents of other age groups are welcome too.

Please feel free to be critical. I'm looking for honest feedback, not validation. 🙂

My female friend is getting on my nerves

I have a school friend and we have a love hate kinda relationship. She is a good person in herself but her dominating behavior gets on my nerves always.

Recently she is going through a rough phase and I am supporting her in all the ways I can since she don't have any other friends. Tbh she is pretty much doing good in her life and career compared to mine where I am still struggling to get one.

Yesterday I was doing some important work. She called me around 10 and I thought she might need some help and attended the call. She seemed to sound low in her voice. So I decided to talk to her. We were talking for few minutes and in between my mother called me. I asked her to wait for few minutes. When I came back she cut the call. I called her she didn't pick up and then she switched off her phone.

This was not the first time. Once she was texting me about some problem in her life. In between my wifi disconnected for less then a minute. Her message wasn't delivered to me. She switched off the phone and went. I have to call her roommate to make sure she was okay. The next day she told me that I suddenly went offline without consideration and that made her feel she didn't have anybody and lonely.

This is getting on my nerves now. It spoilt my mood completely. Like I understand she is not doing well ( which is always the case inspite of whatever I go through). Why is she this impatient. I feel like a fool for pausing whatever I was doing and giving her time. I feel like bashing her which I can't do. Why can't she atleast put a message saying I need time or space something. Why do people take for granted??

FYI we are not some teen Or college going kids. We are 27YO adult.

Awestruck with this movie - Nooru saami - spoiler alert

Summarized the whole situation of most widow women in 30 seconds. I rewatched this scene how many times I just don't remember.

Context - Selvi (swastika) has decided to get remarried after months of persuasion by her son. The woman talking to her is her mother.

This reminds me of the concept of patriarchal bargaining where most of the time its a woman ( mother, mother-in-law, grandmothers or neighborhood aunties) who reinforce the patriarchal norms and yes it's still a reality

A wonderful and powerful social drama that was thoroughly entertaining!!!

My 8 years relationship and it's end.

I was in a 8 year relationship with my school mate. Almost entirely it was long distance. Most of the period was smooth and good. But the last two years was very stressful. Our paths diverged. We drifted apart. At some point it felt like I was in a relationship with a stranger. His absence made no difference in my life. I finally broke up with him in 2024 July. It was solely my decision but he respected it.

We went into no contact from then. We never spoke or texted even once all these days. All of the sudden he texted me last week. He just texted to check on with me. We had a 20 mins call. We just exchanged life updates in the past two years nothing more nothing less.

After the call I felt really good. The whole journey of my 8 years relationship felt beautiful. It feels like we handled both the relationship and the breakup well. I always wish the best for him and will continue to do so. And yes not all breakups are toxic.
