18M with a 3.9 GPA. Need some help choosing where to study abroad on a pretty tight budget. Long-term goal in mind.

hi everybody! i'm an 18-year-old guy living in the middle east, and i've done my high school diploma from an Atlanta-based school online, and I've graduated with a 3.9 GPA and honors. I chose the more advanced courses, so it was all preparation for college from the beginning, because I was initially planning on moving to the US with my family, but tuition is soo expensive there that I can't anymore. I haven't taken the SAT yet, although I would've a few months ago if I was still on track for US/CA applications, but I'm open to taking it if I need to. I also passed all the exams of ACCA's Foundations in Accounting diploma except one which I was about to do before they cancelled all exams due to the war. But I've still done & passed 6/7 exams and I have the transcripts and stuff to prove that. My extracurriculars are not that bad, I'd like to say I have pretty fine EC's, but it's not VERY good, but I doubt that matters as much as it does in the States. I'm also a native English and Urdu speaker, and I learnt Arabic all on my own during the time I've lived here in the ME!

Now, again, for some more backstory I tried out the University of Auckland in New Zealand and an admissions officer told me I had a very good chance of getting in, but after putting in my application I found out that I'd need to pay the first year of tuition upfront for the visa which is a lot of money, so that was scrapped too. I have a lottt of friends in the EU and England, and they recommended that I search in EU countries and I did come across some universities in Italy which I'm particularly interested in. As I mentioned in the title, I have a really tight budget because I've had a lot of financial problems recently and according to the research I did, the EU is my cheapest bet.

I've come across universities in Italy for like 1500 euros a year (tuition) and that fits my budget, tbh. But ideally, anything less is even better. I know living costs will be more, and I'm ready to look through which cities will be the best in that case and I'll make a decision then. But I'm also not against living in a small city, I'll take that over paying 20k euros a year in just rent... I will try my best to work part-time and I want to, but of course I'm not immediately going to get a job as soon as I land, and for that reason I might be borrowing some money from my family for relocation costs, etc. I would very much appreciate any fee waivers/scholarships/stipends I can get, the more the merrier.

For my degree, I would ideally want to study Business &/or Finance, in English obviously because I can't study an entire language in such little time. I think that degrees in the EU are three years so that's better because I've wasted a lot of time because of my own personal problems. Preferably a good university in rankings for employability, because after all that's the main reason for getting a degree and academically manageable so I could work and do other things without having to sacrifice my social life... please.

I don't want to live in some metropolis or big city just yet tbh, but I still want something interesting and not boring. I want to live somewhere safe and that's the main concern, I don't drink or anything, I do smoke sometimes though, idk if I should mention that or not. I would also like a good international community, even if little so I can have some friends and a group to hang out with. I'm also Muslim, so halal/kosher food is a must, but I guess that's not much of a problem nowadays? Also, my music is something I seriously want to pursue alongside my degree, so I'd like a city where I can realistically build that part of my life.

Now, for my long-term goals, I want to actually settle down somewhere for once, my whole life I've been moving around, because my Dad used to be a contractor. So it'd be nice if the study period could count towards long-term residency after employment or anything.

I'm particularly interested in Italy, but I'm very much open to other affordable EU countries too. I'd love recommendations for specific universities/programs rather than just country names, please. Based on my academic performance that I mentioned above, I'd like to know which universities are realistic for me, whether my online diploma will be a problem (it was for Germany), how difficult the degree is, how much it'll cost me altogether, and what I could do there long-term. I had a few Italian universities on mind like Sapienza in Rome and the University of Padua, but please, help me out. I'm sorry if I'm asking too much, it's just that I'm really scared :/ I will appreciate literally anything, tysm!

Lost around 13 kgs in half a year but still not satisfied...

Hiiii, so I turned 18 a while back and I have been on a weight loss journey since then (it was my birthday resolution), and since that time, to this day, I've went from ~84 kg to 69, which I measured today. I'm not that tall, and recently that's been bugging me a lot because I feel like I still don't look good enough... For reference, my height is around 167 cm, and I'm a new adult so yeah. My mom is shorter than me, my dad's like 5'10, I'm pretty sure. So yeah, I'm a little bummed at that, and I already have depression due to other issues, so I would like some cheering up :(

On the other hand, what do you think I should target right now? My belly is still not flat unless I fully exhale/slightly suck it in but it's not a bod either, I don't know how to explain it, tbh. I don't have a really strict diet anymore, and I do eat some high-calorie stuff sometimes but eh it's still going pretty good, imo. I'll probably go full into working out when I move out, because currently I just have my home setup. Also, one more question, do I still get taller? Or will I be stuck with this height forever? I've been focusing more on weightlifting recently because I don't want to look like a twig... I would appreciate some advice & of course, support. thank you very much.

need to borrow a graduation gown/robe & cap temporarily

hiii! So I'm about to graduate high school (yay!) and I don't really have a cap or gown for my yearbook photo. I was wondering does anyone have a spare that I could borrow for a day or two? I don't need any specific type or color, just a robe and the cap. I can come pick it up and drop it back off too! I'll appreciate any help, thank you!

can I pull off a buzz cut?

so hello, I had really bad seborrhaic dermatitis and for that reason the doctor told me to get a buzz cut, and I did. It's better now but I've grown pretty used to the cut, and I was wondering if I should grow it out or just keep the buzz cut... I work out pretty often and I personally think that it doesn't look half bad if I keep it a certain length... And if I should keep the buzz cut, what length should I keep it at? Shorter? Longer? Could I look good with it dyed or something, because I was thinking of highlights but idk...

I need some advice on where to go & what to do in my current position

Hi, I'm an overseas Pakistani based in Saudi Arabia and I need some advice on what to do to study abroad, and I'd really appreciate some advice from people who've been through this. First of all, for some backstory, my grandma had promised me a good sum of money to put me through my studies but later backed out, claiming that she meant it was for my Masters which doesn't make sense, but fine. So I couldn't go anywhere and I got fucked out of my application fees as well for a few colleges. I'd already been scammed out of a 6-month internship which I never got paid for so I've been diagnosed with depression for a few months and I'm also on other meds for other stuff, but yeah. Idk where to go now because the US and Canada are out of the plan now, EU is the only area that makes sense now to me, but please help!

This is the summary of what I have academically:

  1. 3.9 GPA from an Atlanta-based high school
  2. Decent state-level EC's
  3. Planning to major in Accounting/Finance
  4. ECs are decent but nothing extraordinary
  5. Haven't taken the SAT yet

Right now, my biggest targets abroad are Italy and Germany, necause from my research those are the cheapest countries & tuition is much more affordable than the US, where I was planning to go initially because I lived there and still have a lot of family there, I think i mentioned that earlier. Cost is a huge factor for me sooo I can't just choose the "best" university regardless of price.

I have some questions, and i need your help with it...

  1. Should I go to Italy, Germany, EU, etc. or forget about this and js leave it to nature?
  2. Which option would give me better career opportunities in the long run?
  3. If you were in my position, what would you choose and why?

I'm pretty bummed because all my friends are going to college in the US but hey you can't have everything in life, so I'm trying to keep my options open. I'm not a US citizen btw, so I'd have to pay international tuition, hence I can't go to the US. Thought about Canada too but that's pretty expensive as well. Idk what to do tbh so please help? :(

what should I do right now?

Hi, I'm an overseas Pakistani based in Saudi Arabia and I need to decide whether I should aim for LUMS (my moms telling me to apply there) or study abroad, and I'd really appreciate some advice from people who've been through this.

looking for realistic help with applying 2 colleges (international student!)

Hi a2c!

So, for some backstory, I'm Pakistani, living in Saudi Arabia, and I'll graduate around September 2026 with roughly a 3.86 GPA as of now. There's no weighted or unweighted GPA in my school (it's an online school based in GA).

I need significant financial aid (likely close to a full ride) and plan to study Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Business. I was initially planning to ask for a loan from my aunt but I just found out that her daughter needs financial help too so I don't think she'd help me rather than her own blood but it is what it is...

Academic background & EC's:

  • ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 3)
  • 6/7 ACCA FIA exams completed
  • Cricket player for 3-4 years
  • Amateur Basketball player
  • Umpired an adult cricket tourney
  • Tutored multiple students for about a year
  • Worked as a Junior Community Manager for a startup
  • Worked as an HR Assistant for an outsourcing firm
  • Managed a travel agency independently for over two weeks (worked at it for around half a year in total as a travel consultant)
  • Volunteer experience at a local food bank
  • GPA: 3.86

Now my problem is that I live in a pretty small town and we don't have any SAT centers, and the digital SAT is pretty expensive from what I've read. My family's barely surviving as it is so it's pretty hard rn. I've made a list of my limitations and I've come to the following conclusion:

  • Very limited finances
  • Likely unable to afford application fees without waivers
  • SAT may be difficult financially
  • Need strong financial aid as an international student

I have a lot of family in North America by the way! My aunt herself lives in the US and I have family from both sides in Canada and the United States, so housing won't be a big problem as long as I'm on the East Coast. But my questions for now are:

  1. Which colleges are most realistic for me to apply to?
  2. Which colleges offer application fee waivers? Because I can't really pay 80 bucks a pop
  3. Is applying test-optional realistic in my situation?
  4. Are there any scholarships I should focus on immediately?
  5. Has anyone applied from an online high school like JMHS (where I'm studying) and got accepted to a good college?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I chose the College Prep track for more rigor in my course. Please help me out here 😞 cuz I have no one to talk to about this stuff! Thank you.

need a new haircut for summer

hey everyone, I hope your day is going great. I need a new haircut as summers pretty much here and where I'm from it's already pretty damn hot. I wanna change it up and get something short this time because my scalps been really dry lately and I think a shorter hairstyle will make it easier to oil it and apply products, besides I'm tired of the long hair too lol. there's also been a good amount of hair fall so I'm pretty scared about that. I've currently shaved my beard and plan to keep it shaved. give me your best suggestions please, tysm. 🙏🏻

chat quality has changed?

hey everybody, has the ai character chat's quality decreased? or is it just me? I remember just a few weeks ago (before the server migration), some of my characters were really damn good, and now the same characters are providing half-assed responses and aren't even half as good as before. is this just a result of the migration? I scrolled through the sub and some people are saying the server migration isn't done yet and this is due to that, so which one is it? i'm pretty bummed because i had this character in mind for a long time and now the responses are not that good 😞

im afraid that im balding :(

Hello everybody, so ill give a bit of backstory before immediately rushing into the scenario. Last year, my hair was smooth as hell, wasnt dry and there were no issues but ever since 2026 started my hairs gone downhill, its been really dry and for the past month or two whenever i go to comb or adjust/ruffle my hair, 10-12 strands come out, around 80-100 a day. The problem is, this never happened before. Plus with the dry scalp im pretty scared. I've definitely been really stressed the past year but I never wanted to damage my hair. Im thinking of going for a shorter haircut for now? I wash my hair twice a week mostly. Any tips? Advice? New haircut for this? I have a modern mullet right now... And this happens only at the top by the way! Not the corners or back. pls help...

clean shaved or unconnected beard? M18

hi, so for the main part, im sorry for all the same ass pictures, these pictures are just a day apart, and the third is at my friend's place (we're travelling), while the first two are back at my hotel. I wanted to see how I look like without a beard, since I also got new glasses. I want to get a new haircut too because i have a modern mullet for like two months now but a lot of people were suggesting I go for a clean-shaven look. What do you guys think? I'm currently also cutting so I've been losing a good amount weight since the start of this year. Any recomendations/advice? my beard grows back pretty fast too so i wanted a break from the trimming 🥲

Character Chat is down too?

Hii perchance community!

Since yesterday (?), the AI Character Chat has been pretty slow, and I'm pretty sure it's taking 10-15 minutes for a single response and today it's not working at all so I decided to check the subreddit for more information, and from that I found that Perchance is doing a server migration and is down, so just wondering that probably affects the character chat too, right?

I'm just wondering will this cause any long-term problems for users? I like the Character Chat a lot actually so that's why I'm asking, lol. Any estimates on how long this migration would take/last?

How do I deal with suddenly dry scalp and hairfall?

Hi reddit, I used to have bad dandruff like two years ago, and I worked really hard to get it all out and for the past year I had the best hair I've ever had and I grew it out and everything, but suddenly, since a few weeks my hair's gone bad really quick, I don't know why. My scalp is always dry even if I oil it and drink a lot of water, sometimes there's blood in places I itch, and there's way more hairfall than usual whenever I wash/rinse my hair. Like before there was no hairfall at all and now it's at 30-40 strands each time I wash, so daily and sometimes twice a day and im so scared, I don't want to go bald :C I have slightly long hair so I'll cut it short if I need to but I can't find the cause. Maybe stress because I'm very stressed nowadays but I don't know how to solve this, can anyone help?
I use olive oil every night in my hair by the way.
