Lifting 3x a week, and I can feel myself getting so much stronger! I began lifting in Jan, so this is month 9 of resistance training as well. My maintenance is about 2000cals and I’m now trying to eat about 2250 per day, though I’ve been a bit sick this week and have ink been able to hit about 1600 per day.
Am I gaining too fast? The first 3 weeks of this bulk I was gaining about 0.2-0.3 pounds per week, then all of a sudden I gained a full pound in my last 2 weeks, even while keeping cals the same. Should I stay at 2250, or cut down to 2150?
I'm finally old enough to vote. Next month we have both a municipal and provincial election, so I'm trying to read up on the candidates.
As with many young people in North America, my political values are left-leaning. There is a major housing crisis in my city, so for me the most major issues are housing, climate, preventing AI data centres from being constructed in my city (which is currently on the table), and of course, the Israel/Palestine conflict.
It seems like everyone who I can agree on with other main issues are also deeply antisemitic and have made horrible comments about Israel. Our current mayor (who is up for re-election) has been relatively good to the Jews in my city by coming to vigils/rallies/etc, but has also significantly worsened the housing crisis, decreased funding of community centres and public transit, and is currently trying to get data centres built in the middle of downtown. I absolutely will not vote for him as he has only caused havoc in my city for the past 4 years.
I also can't vote for someone who stated that boycotting Israeli wines is the correct response to I/P. Unfortunately the only other candidates who will stand up for Israel also want to cut down 1/3 of our old growth forests and remove LGBTQ education from schools. I don't know what to do. I really consider it my civic duty to vote but I don't really want to if that means putting someone in office who's a threat to my values. I had hoped that this whole nightmare would be over by the time I came of age to vote.
Folks who have had to deal with this since Oct. 7, how have you managed? What has been your solution? As much as it pains me I think I have to put the immediate issues of my city before those across the planet.
I’ve never really had a big appetite but since starting my first ever bulk about 2.5 weeks ago my appetite has been out of control! I’m literally always hungry!
I eat a ton of protein and fiber so idk what else I can do. I’m already at the limits of a comfortable surplus, and I don’t exactly have the money to buy more food anyway.
Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to manage it? I literally can’t stop thinking about food
This whole bowl (with rice) comes out to about 480 cals, 30g protein, and 8g of fiber!
I’m not vegan but I’m trying to reduce my animal consumption. This was my first attempt at a vegan dish but I think it came out well!
Recipe (serves 4)
2 tomatoes chopped
1/2 onion
1 cup coconut milk
1 cup water (could sub vegetable or chicken stock)
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 block tofu + 1 cup tvp (or whatever protein you like)
curry powder, turmeric, ginger, garlic, cinnamon, s+p, coriander
cook down the onions, add spices and tomato paste, add tomatoes and let them simmer until soft, add prepared protein, add liquids and let simmer for about 20 mins. Serve with 1/4 cup dry rice!
chocolate chip cookie. not a great pic but there’s a grape to kinda see the size
Scale went from 106-113 lbs in a week after starting a bulk of 250-300 cals. I know it’s probably mostly water and glycogen but it’s messing with my head.
What should I use as my baseline to monitor my weight? Like, if I’m aiming for .5 lbs per week should I say I started at 113 and count up from there? I’m doing a very clean bulk so I know it can’t be fat
My (19F) maintenance is 2000kcal per day and i’ve just started a bulk of 250-300kcal extra per day. I’ve been doing this for about a week so far but my weight has gone up from 106 to 112. I know this is not mathematically possible, but I waited a week and a half before weighing myself to try to bypass the water weight.
I’ve been eating clean and monitoring my calories. I don’t think I look any fatter, but that also cannot be muscle weight. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks so much!
I need the textbook and workbook, preferably by pdf if anyone can find it. New ones are so expensive!
I'm starting Russian intermediate intensive on Monday and cant find a pdf of the textbook or workbook. If anyone has one they don't need anymore I'm happy to take it off your hands. The new ones are like $150
Anyone know the nutrition content for a restaurant style ghormeh sabzi? I tried it for the first time tonight. It was delicious but super oily, is it normally like that? Adding up all the ingredients I estimated 600 kcal for my small bowl, with about 33g protein, 18g carbs and 7g fibre, 43g fat. Does that sound right?

Next month I’m starting a bulk of about 250-300 extra calories per day. I have a very small appetite and eat mostly whole foods, so some days I struggle to even hit my maintenance of about 2k. I don’t really snack much, I don’t want to add a ton of fats to my diet, and eating larger portions will make me want to throw up.
I love ice cream. It’s kind of the only thing I can think of that I could convince myself to eat even if I’m full. I figure it contains a significant amount of protein and carbs (even if it’s all sugar) alongside fat to fill up my calories. I’m talking about proper homemade ice cream, not the kind from the grocery store with tons of gums and thickeners. Does this seem okay? I’m just worried about the sugar content.
Been working out for a while now and my shoulders are looking broad and rounded which is nice but now I feel like my lower body is looking small.
Rn for lower body I’m doing single leg deadlifts, leg extension, and lunges(2x per week 3 sets of 10-12). I’m thinking I should swap the leg extension extensions for something else, maybe hip abduction?
So I’m trying to bulk. My initial plan was to just eat the way I normally do but have lots of extra snacks throughout the day to fill up calories. Problem is I don’t have a big appetite so I either forget to snack or by the time it’s dinner time I literally have to force the food down.
I figured the next best thing is to make my meals more caloric but idk how to do that without either a) adding tons of fats from cooking oil or b) eating huge portions of whatever my meal is. Neither seems great to me.
I’ve considered mass gainers but I don’t like to rely on supplements/processed products.
