Recent ones on cardstock

I really enjoyed both of these free pages from hygge artful. I used alcohol markers, gel pen, and coloured pencil.

First page on cardstock!

Just sharing my finished page that I posted a WIP of yesterday. The cardstock made such a huge difference to how my page came out! I also tried to really hold back on the white gel pen this time, what do you think - does it need more ?

I think I’m a cardstock convert!

I downloaded a bunch of free pages (this one is joy jar from hygge artful) and got them printed at my local chain print shop on 200gsm cardstock. It said it was uncoated but it definitely has a bit of sheen. I can’t believe how incredible the colouring experience has been! Too bad I think to buy the digital copy and get it printed will be more expensive than just buying the physical book

What do you do in relationships when you’re both disabled but someone feels “more” disabled?

Me and my spouse are both disabled. We have a 10 month old baby. I have a connective tissue disorder that creates a lot of widespread issues, but is very dynamic. It makes it easy for me to injure myself and I have injured myself especially a lot lately. I also have chronic migraines that are pretty intractable. My worst day is being unable to move from the couch/bed or participate in parenting. My best day is doing 50/50 or better on domestic tasks with spouse, having energy to be romantic and social, etc. I have been having a lot more worst days recently, it’s just the season. My spouse is also disabled with fibromyalgia. I hate to play the game of “who’s more disabled” because I think it’s super unproductive, but my spouse is constantly telling me they HAVE to push through and not get their needs met because I’m “more disabled”It’s hard to argue sometimes, but it doesn’t feel good to accept their stance. They feel like our co-parenting is super unequal because I’m so disabled, and feel really hopeless about it. They don’t blame me for being disabled, they just wish things were different. I do, too. I don’t know how I can make them feel like we are team, which is what we both want to feel, without changing the facts that I often do need a lot of support. I also feel like they just push a lot more than I do, and are constantly suffering because they don’t ask for help. This is our constant source of conflict. We have the same conversations over and over. I want them to tell me what they need, but they don’t feel like they can rely on me for support, especially when I’m on a “worst” day. They are generally hopeless and I am generally hopeful re: our perspectives on our disabilities. I’m feeling really broken up about it to be honest. Anyone relate or have any advice?

Morning light

Thanks to everyone’s suggestions in my post about what to put in the window. I went with silhouettes of a cat and some plants. Drawing is not my strong suit but I think it’s at least passable! This paper is thin and the marker bleed is so real, but otherwise super happy with how everything else came out. My first time doing a (kind of) border as well!

Book is cozy home from Vivi Tinta. I used a variety of alcohol markers, a little coloured pencil, and white acrylic and gel pens.

What should I put in the windows?

Hello! I am colouring this scene and realised that I’ve never coloured windows from the outside before. I know I could just leave them as glass, but I thought maybe there’s better ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions? Bonus if you have pictures as examples! Thanks in advance :)

Finally upgraded my marker storage…and I’m already about to outgrow it again 🥲

I outgrew the lazy susan style organiser from ohuhu a while ago (which is just out of frame holding my coloured pencils and acrylic markers). Finally got around to buying horizontal storage, got the big one thinking “oh, room to grow” but I’ve already filled all but 5 spaces. This is a problem 😅.

For Australians: I think these oil markers are alcohol markers

From Kmart. 24 markers for $8 is pretty cheap! That’s like as much as a single copic 😅. I don’t know what oil markers are (honestly have never heard of them), but they swatch like alcohol markers and smell like them. There’s a brush tip and bullet. I am not sure how they go colouring beyond just swatching them yet but couldn’t resist trying them for the price tag! Has anyone used them?

WIP first time doing monochrome(ish)

Why oh why did I pick multiple light sources, always confuses me 😭. Also I know it’s maybe not exactly monochrome but close enough.

Can someone help me find Copic equivalents to these ohuhu shades?

Bought a bunch of ohuhus when first starting to use markers, only to realise you can’t buy individual markers or replacement ink in my country. Now having to replace shades as they run out with copic, which are available individually. Conversion charts I’ve found don’t seem to be quite right. I really struggle with colour matching. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
They are ohuhu Honolulu yr20/yr37, yr209/e47, y9/y415, yr107/yr38, yr7/yr09, y110/y42, yr4/yr07, bg3/bv31, and gy172/g43.

Thanks in advance!

Mixed feelings about this weekly challenge result

I have mixed feelings about this! Love how the sky and water turned out, but not sure about how I used the colour palette generally. I turned the daytime scene into a night one to make it work, but still had to get creative with the colours!
I used coloured pencils over alcohol markers for the first time properly and I had mixed results. I think it was really effective on the skin but not so much in other places. I decided to change the colour of the porch swing after shading with coloured pencils, which helped me learn that layering alcohol markers over coloured pencil
does not yield great results - thus the streaks.

Also had one the purples lean more red/brown, but did my best with colour matching. The palette was quite desaturated which is hard with my marker collection (despite having like 300 easily 😅). Overall I had fun solving lots of creative problems and using new techniques, this was definitely out of my comfort zone!

How to cope with hopelessness when you’re having a lot of bad days

What actionable, practical things do you do to heal the vibes when you’re having a lot of bad days and it’s starting to get to you? Even small things?

I have had a hEDS diagnosis for over 10 years now. My spouse was diagnosed with “benign” hypermobility and fibromyalgia a few months ago. I have a mostly positive outlook while they (understandably) have been struggling a lot with hopelessness. We have a 10 month old baby and have been through a lot this year. I had severe PPA/PPD which has gotten better but now I’m having severe antidepressant discontinuation syndrome. I had really bad insomnia that has, again, gotten better but I still have horrible fatigue every day from the sleep debt that I can’t really pay back since we have a baby that doesn’t sleep well. I also keep injuring myself. I dislocated and broke my knee last month, sprained my toe and ankle and reinjured my broken knee falling just last night. I keep getting really sick, too. It seems like it’s relentless right now. I can feel my spouse getting a bit frustrated with me and depressed about our situation. They also have bilateral tendonosis in their wrists and chronic pain.

I am very optimistic as I said, but all our bad days, combined with my spouses heavy sense of hopelessness really is getting to me. What can we do to make ourselves feel a bit better, even if temporarily? Thanks in advance ❤️❤️

Colour palettes that feel super cozy and warm

What are your favourite colour palettes to achieve this vibe? How do you go about balancing a limited colour palettes across a page? I really struggle to stick to colour palettes because I’m not super artistically inclined - I pick the “wrong” kind of undertone to achieve the look I want, or I end up making too many things the same colour, I go off palette because I can’t break the rules of “oh well this object wouldn’t be this colour”. I also struggle to colour match when I find palettes I like online, I have a ton of markers but never feel like I have the right colours - any tips for this? Sometimes I feel like I need to desaturate a colour to make it work, do you have a reliable method of doing this? For example, I’ve added a light brown under a red to tone it down but am interested in other methods for other colours.

TL;DR Please tell me your colour tips and tricks! And please post photos of your favourite warm cozy colour palettes and how you achieved it. Thanks so much for any advice!

Thanks to those who helped me decide what colour floor!

I went with light pink and green checkered, I think it really lets the bright pink/green/orange colour palette I chose stand out/come together. Thanks to everyone who commented on my post :)
