debt consolidation loan options?

i have around $9k in credit card debt across two cards and i’m looking to consolidate them. i don’t know what i’m looking for because i’ve never been this deep in debt before and i’m scared. i’ve always payed the minimum but with interest it has barely made a dent over the last few years, and for reasons still unknown to me my credit score took a pretty substantial hit recently (not fraud, i checked). i just want to be done with all of this as soon as possible so i can start rebuilding my finances. my regular bank is sofi but they won’t offer me a personal loan right now. i feel like i’m in way over my head. don’t want to go into detail as to why i got in this deep and i’m not here for judgement either. i’m trying to make things right for myself.

oh my god

jeni’s is no joke. i picked up a few other flavors from whole foods since they were on sale and i can’t wait to try the rest of them. this is the non-dairy banana pudding flavor, and it’s SO good. i’m not strictly dairy-free but it never hurts to substitute from time to time. coconut cream really makes the best dairy-free ice cream, it’s nice and dense and still creamy like regular dairy ice cream, something i feel almond- or oat-based ice creams kinda lack.

i also got the gooey butter cake and honey vanilla flavors, plus a pint of van leeuwen’s strawberry matcha. this whole foods sale might be the death of me, my bank account, and my freezer space

coffee substitutes

hi, i am very pre-op, as in haven’t finished all my clearance appointments just yet and don’t have a surgery date. everyone on my care team has stressed the importance of cutting caffeine out entirely before surgery and maintaining that after surgery, however i am a regular coffee drinker, previously having 2-3 cups a day, and now down to one cup of half-caff. obviously i want to figure out how to cut coffee out entirely because i want my surgery and recovery to be as successful as possible, but it just seems overwhelming. my team has also stressed that substitution rather than entirely eliminating it from my routine is a better option. i like my coffee light and sweet, and have not been able to find a caffeine-free tea that emulates the taste close enough for my liking. fellow (former) coffee drinkers, what did you switch to?

i am insanely burnt out. i need to quit ASAP, but i’m in the interviewing process for a new position. what do i do?

i’ve already had it in my mind that i cannot give this job a full two weeks when i leave. i’ve hated this job since i started, and almost quit for good yesterday. this job is not worth the expense of my mental health. i also had a successful primary interview yesterday with a secondary in-person interview tomorrow.

if i were to quit today with no notice, could this impact this new position? is there a “professional” way to quit with no notice? i need to get outtttt of here so badly but i also cannot have it impact this prospect. i have enough money saved to cover my expenses for a month or two even if i don’t get this job so i’m not super worried about that, just my sanity.

nervous about excess skin post-weight loss

i feel kind of silly for being so worried about this, because obviously the main goal and the priority of pursuing the sleeve is to improve my overall physical health… but i am already deeply self-conscious of my body’s appearance as well and i feel that it has had a pretty significant negative impact on my self-esteem and mental wellbeing. i know after significant, relatively rapid weight loss, you can be left with quite a bit of excess skin. my mom had the surgery in 2024 at a much lower SW than me and even she has been dealing with the excess skin. i’ve also heard that not only is surgery to remove that excess skin typically not covered by insurance, and thus quite expensive, but it’s difficult/painful to recover from.

i’m 100% moving forward with the surgery and i’ve nearly completed all of my pre-op clearances, i’m just overwhelmed thinking about the after as i anticipate i’ll end up with quite a bit of extra skin. just to put my mind at ease, what kinds of nonsurgical options are there for managing/concealing the excess skin? and what’s the recovery truly like for body contouring?

edit: if it’s relevant, 25 y/o F, 5’6” and currently ~260lbs as of Friday

cleaning/de-rusting these handlebars

i have a neglected cruiser bike that i really want to get both working and looking good again. the handlebars have been pretty badly rusted over the years, and since it’s an e-bike with the wiring for the throttle built into them, i’m thinking removing the rust will be a better option. not going for like-new shine or anything, just… not rusty

where do i even begin?

i have this rusty, crusty, dusty, but otherwise lovely pedego cruiser that i want to fix up and get rideable again as a summer project. it’s about 8 years old, and i don’t think i’ve ridden it since 2021. i have never done any restoration or repair work for… pretty much anything in my life, especially not anything mechanical like a bike. as you can see, the handlebars are pretty badly rusted, as is the chain. i’m also not sure if the tires just need a lot of air, or if they’ve got holes in them. and of course, i’m not sure how the actual electronics are functioning either. the battery itself has always been stored indoors so i’m not too worried about that, but if there’s an issue with the contacts or wiring on the bike itself i would have no idea how to handle that.

i think my main questions right now are:

- how do i go about removing the rust from the handlebars and chain? or, for the chain, should i just consider buying a brand new replacement?

- is it generally considered safe to wash an e-bike sort of like how you would a car (maybe minus the wax)? because it definitely needs a wash too

- if i need to replace them, are cream-colored tires like this hard to come by? not opposed to switching to black tires if so, i just like the way these ones look

edit: also want to add that i’m trying to save myself the cost of an entirely new e-bike, and would definitely want to go for the least expensive but effective options available for supplies. not really looking to turn bike repair into a hobby and make a bunch of big investments into fancy chemicals and tools, just want to get this up, running, and looking clean again. not opposed to investing in a few things for future maintenance and upkeep though

i’ve been off seroquel for three days, i’m worried i’ll never sleep well or normally again

i had been on seroquel ER 300mg for over a decade until last week, when i started tapering off and taking latuda instead. i have not slept restfully since starting to taper. i wake up 5 or 6 times throughout the night. it’s at the point where im taking a double dose of extra-strength melatonin, but that only helps me fall asleep, not stay asleep. the other withdrawal symptoms suck bad but the sleep problems have to be the worst. am i ever going to sleep normally again? how long will it take until i can?

[gendered] from boston children’s hospital’s website

none of the other conditions on their very extensive list are gendered like this.

edit: “it’s a typo” “it’s autocorrect” is it though? what kind of autocorrect would correct “their” to “her”?? and shouldn’t we expect better from an institution like boston children’s?

week 1 on latuda after seroquel… what should i expect with regards to weight?

i started latuda last monday at 40mg, and i am tapering off of seroquel 300mg ER for the next week as well. i’ve been on seroquel for a decade at various doses throughout that time, and i wanted to switch off of it because i’m trying to lose weight (it’s at the point where it’s starting to impact the rest of my health), and seroquel has caused me some pretty significant weight gain and hindered any progress i’ve made toward losing it in the past. obviously i know everyone responds differently to medications, but for anyone who has switched off of a medication like seroquel with a higher metabolic impact, how quickly did you start noticing a difference? realistically i’m not expecting any weight to melt off just by switching of course, and i am also exercising and being mindful of my eating habits, which is definitely gonna be responsible for most of the weight i end up losing. just wondering if anyone has been in a similar spot and what your experience ended up being

extremely beginner strength routine?

i’m getting ready to have a weight loss procedure, and my medical team have all recommended not just cardio, but strength exercises to help prevent muscle loss post-op. i wouldn’t say i’m starting from nothing necessarily, but i also can’t currently do a push-up without my knees. i’ve never taken exercise seriously until now, and my muscles could definitely use some training up.

i do have access to a basic gym, and i think they have all the basic strength equipment (weights, weight machine, etc), and i also know that you can do some basic workouts with your own body. i’d love to try a mix of both for days where i can’t make it to the gym.

just started latuda

currently tapering off of seroquel and starting latuda in its place for metabolism reasons. i was talking to my mom about it and she said “latuda… sounds like a fancy french fart” and maybe it was the decrease in seroquel in my body but it really sent me. that’s all

acne/skincare routine for 53 y/o

i’m sorry if this isn’t allowed, i know the rules say no posters under 30, but i’m looking for recommendations for my almost-53-y/o mom (no hard feelings if this gets removed!), and as much as i would love to keep telling her to try my own routine, i also know the skin needs different things at 53 than it does at 25.

my mom has balanced-to-oily skin, and her biggest skin concern right now is what appears to be cystic acne and milia. she is also on the tail end of menopause. she just started using prescription azelaic acid gel once daily, but she’s never really had a skincare routine outside of occasionally washing with noxzema and toning with stridex pads. her birthday is next month, and i’d love to set her up with a routine she can use in conjunction with the azelaic acid, including a cleanser, moisturizer, and daily SPF. i’m willing to splurge on my mom for her birthday of course, but she may not be as willing to rebuy products that are on the more expensive side, so any budget-friendly or drugstore options would be ideal. i can try any answer any other questions about her skin type/concerns if any come up. thank you in advance! and again, if this is against the rules, no worries at all.

started my journey yesterday and i’m so excited

i’m 25F and 260lbs. i have never been active or in shape in my life, but some recent medical stuff relating to my weight has motivated me to start working toward changing that. well, what better way to start working out than with the built-in equipment i’ve got? i decided to start jogging parts of my regular walk, and to use just run as the coach for that. i didn’t complete day 1 in full, but i did get about halfway through which i feel is a really great starting point for someone with zero experience or prior training. and, as challenging as it was for me, it felt amazing. i’m really excited to keep building up that endurance to eventually complete the full day 1 regimen.

that’s all, just wanted to share my first little victory 🙂
