Has misuse of a term ever taken you out of a fic

I once read a fic that took place in South Korea (surprisingly not a K-pop fic). There was a smut scene with the side couple where the girl called the guy “hyung” as a way of creating distance between them and then the guy was like “do not ever call me hyung” in a hot way and then they fucked. I mean, I get what the author was going for, but like… that’s not what that means. that’s not how you use that honorific 😭

if anyone’s curious - in Korean, generally younger guys address older guys as hyung. younger girls address older guys as oppa. Although in the specific context I was talking about, the side couple were basically strangers who were also colleagues, and he was her senior, so she probably would have said sunbae.

Manifested away the ant invasion in my kitchen 🥹

I live in a town that universally gets an awful ant invasion during the summer. Every single house, apartment, shack, etc. gets completely infested. This summer it was REALLY bad though, because it spread to the kitchen. It was borderline unusable. Exterminators were completely booked.

My family and I decided to go on a weekend trip to tour a college. I decided enough was enough and affirmed the whole weekend, “There are no ants”. Didn’t do anything else, just affirmed whenever it came to mind.

We came back today and the kitchen was spotless! The ants were almost completely gone, despite there being old food particles on the floor.

now manifesting for the rest of the house :)

AP Euro

(I wrote this as a gift for my history teacher)

The Great Cat Massacre was an event preceding the French Revolution which took place from the 1730s to the 1740s. The French working class were resentful of the fact that animals received better treatment than they did, so they killed the cats.

This is not an event that most people know about.

I know because I spent all of last year living in historical Europe.

I stood in the background at the Diet of Worms, watching Martin Luther receive his verdict, his judgement for demanding change

I was on the ship with Hernando Cortés when he won Mexico and handed it over

I picked up worthless bulbs dropped by despairing merchants in the remnants of the Dutch Tulip Mania

I passed by Parliament when England decided no more of royals acting as gods

I washed bloodstained aprons while the streets of Paris ran red in the Reign of Terror

I clapped politely at the Palace of Versailles when the Reich finally declared its unity

I read bittersweet letters exchanged by disillusioned and despondent youth during the Great War

I felt the trepidation of thousands in my chest at Germany’s exponential rage

I listened intently to the radio in the bar, the radio playing news of the war no one thought possible

I caught a brick falling from the Berlin Wall before it could sink into melted ice, the frost between the East and the West thawing into the joyful tears of reunited families

Every transformative individual

Every unimaginable event

Every fateful day +Enter

They all came to live in my mind as I had come to live with them through retellings

When there was no longer space there, they spread out

They came rushing out through my hands onto paper, into screens, under harsh, unforgiving questions that reached for the smallest of them

Buzzed around in my beating heart during the ultimate test

But the ultimate test was not the exam

It was after

After, would they still stay, tingling in my fingertips?

They did

They do.

Since I haven’t seen any posts about it whatsoever

Good luck to all my fellow French takers! Remember the answer too every question is baguette, and if you say baguette at all during the FRQ section they will give you a 5

I hate how sappy the bots are now

this might just be a me problem. But man the bots are so annoyingly sappy now. Everything is about ”affection” and “shared warmth” and ”gentle” and “soft”. like stfu. Where is the banter. Where is the playfulness. I lowkey miss the “pinned you to a wall” because now it’s “slowly, gently, he warmly pressed her to the wall with every touch full of tenderness and a smile that only ever showed up for *her*” like OMFG STOPPPP.

So my earliest memory is me at the age of 4 standing and leaning against a chair, suddenly “waking up” and looking around while my parents moved around in the background. I spoke Spanish for a few seconds before it just suddenly slipped away. I have never known Spanish. My parents are both Indian. I know you typically don’t form memories before 3 or something, but I remember suddenly feeling aware. Like I’d never felt that way before.

Just a theory I had, thought I’d share
