Grace Chastity after the show

>!What if she got pregnant from her tryst with zombie Max, the offspring would wind up in a very Carrie situation: mysterious father, fanatic mother, and something supernatural about them.!<

I'd love to see, even as shorts, some "what happened after the show" lore!

>I've been compiling a list of definitions to answer the question "What is a Labyrinth?" Some are from sources like Veriditas and Lauren Artress's works, some I've thought about, some I've stumbled across elsewhere. I would love to know if you all have any others I can add (and if thet come from any specific works I should read). Thank you in advance!

What is your favorite historical or media labyrinth?

I'm big on the Pattern of The Chronicles of r/Amber, but also fond of the movie r/labyrinth (which doesn't have an actual, literal labyrinth in it), and the book r/houseofleaves , which uses labyrinth and Minotaur symbolism. The mythic Cretan labyrinth is quite the tale as well, with gods, bestiality, human sacrifice, and thread!

There are others out there, for sure! I'm not aware of many of the contemplative, meditative walking labyrinths in stories and media, but I'd be curious if you knew any!

Anything counts that you think counts, pedantic definitions and such are a cool discussion for another time!

Opinion wanted: how to respond to comic's offensive joke at open mic?

For context, I host an open mic in my city, it's fairly new and small. We have a pretty varied crowd, it comes and goes. I have a lot of queer friends who are performers who like open mics, and I am really aware of how some kinds of comics can make people feel unwelcome in the space.

As host, it sort of falls on me to filter and comment when needed. And I always feel unsure what to do when a comic comes in and does jokes that I think can be damaging. I have heard before of people staying away because certain behavior went unchallenged.

And yet, I don't want to be the fun police, and would rather not cause a scene if the non-laughing audience is all the feedback they need.

Last show, a new guy came in, and his stuff was very cliche and mid, not a lot of laughs, then he told a gay joke (>!"I feel about cops like I feel abut gay guys.: I don't mind them unless they're behind me!"!<) and the life kind of went out of the room.

It's not the worst joke, and maybe I'm extra touchy, but it pissed me off. But what's the strategy here? I am working on my conflict-aversion in therapy, lol.

If you were in the audience, what would you like to see from the emcee in that situation?

Death Kindly Stopped for a Visit

Death kindly stopped for a visit

(Staying overlong, if I am

being honest)

And ate three banana nut muffins,

Picking up crumbs with a tongue-wet fingertip,

Popping them between lips glossed in

Just the wrong shade of wine.

She took six sugars in her tea,

Then left it to grow cold and flat

As she gossiped, gesturing and nodding,

Telling me of the one who gave up on their dreams,

The one that fled love,

The one that slept for three days

before she came for them,

“And,” she said, placing the used butter knife

On my good, white table cloth,

Where it left a grease spot

Shaped like Bermuda,

“Funniest thing: they all looked

Exactly

Like you!

Are you going to finish that muffin?”

Too polite to challenge, I smiled,

Gesturing and Nodding,

And said, “You don’t say!”

Sipping tea and letting Death’s words

Drone through me until

There were no more baked goods,

Not even crumbs.

“I cannot stay,” she said,

“And you cannot come with me, not yet.”

We both stood, shook hands,

And she left, failing to latch the screen door

And allowing a pale moth to fly in,

Circling the lamp.

When she was out of sight,

I checked that my gold watch hadn’t

Disappeared from my wrist,

And counted my pocket change to be sure

I still had enough

To buy muffins.

.

It was even more.

Labyrinth of the Minotaur, Lambertus a S. Audomaro, Saint-Omer, c. 1121

The labyrinth goes INTO the creature??? That is definitely not a Minotaur.

My Latin is too rusty to figure out wtf this is

The Vulture and the Little Girl: Photojournalism Ethics(1993)

The Vulture and the Little Girl captures the horrors of Sudan’s famine and sparked global debate about ethics in photojournalism. Taken by Kevin Carter in 1993, it shows suffering, moral conflict, and the lasting emotional toll on those documenting tragedy.

The Pattern of Amber

The Chronicles of r/Amber is a series of novels by Roger Zelazny. It's been an inspiration for me since I was in high school. If it ever makes it to publication, my Jack Perilous stories are heavily influenced.

The Pattern is an inscribed labyrinth in the caves beneath the castle. Only those of the bloodline of Amber may walk it, and doing so bestows power over shadow (alternate universes, essentially).

There is another pattern, a moving, chaotic one in The Courts of Chaos called the Logrus, with similar powers.

Wikipedia has a surprising amount to say on the Pattern and the Logrus, including a link to post-Soviet magical practice.

Indeed, the universe is a mad place, and this shadow Earth has more than you would expect, once you start walking.
