My Tower Defense Desktop Companion finally has a Demo!

I've been working away at this slowly for more than a month now. Finally put up a demo which is a sandbox type (as in no cost related mechanics, everything is unlocked) so you can set up towers and turrets as you wish and see how it all works.

UI is pretty basic at the moment, as I've been mainly focused on the other aspects.

I have had to get rid of the zombie sprites (as they belonged to a different game which I found out later on) and replaced them with jiggly rectangles.

I'd appreciate any feedback on the game's current state, so that before I make an official itchio or steam page I can fix them. (I am aware that these games should include support for multiple monitors, but due to lack of any I am unable to test it and have therefore kept the feature on hold as of now)

Gotta look out for in-office players (game disappears and switches taskbar icon at a button press)

Will give option to add your own icon (coz not everyone is coding at work)

Testing Parallax Background in my Desktop Companion TD Game

Since my Tower Defense Game is a desktop companion, it needs to look good with anything in the background. It usually looks fine with anything dark behind it, but looks bad with light stuff. (And I wouldn't want light mode users to feel left out)

So I took a free asset from itchio (Credits: Wasteland City by owmyknees) to test a parallax backdrop with and without solid sky (below being solid sky version).

Going forward, I'll make my own backdrop variants that players can cycle between (or choose to have none) based on their liking.

Normally I knew parallax for sideways movement (farther layers move slower than closer ones), so it took some tweaking to also vary the zoom scale to make sure it didn't look like a flat plane when zooming in/out.

Added Spring Loaded Wall Traps, and Zoom Function so the game takes Screen-Space of your choice.

Wall traps were suggested when I first posted about this desktop companion game I am developing, so I added these spring loaded ones that stop zombies until they pile up and overflow, or temporarily collapse it, post which it springs back up flinging any zombies over it.

The zoom function allows to keep it on screen and take less vertical space when you want to focus on work, and also focus in when you want to place turrets, spend on upgrades, or just watch your favorite turret at work.

(No steam page yet however, still needs more work and content before I have enough to put there)

Orbital Laser Strike attack for my transparent desktop game

This is a manual attack (i.e. not automatic/random) which player can call when they reach a certain number of kills.

It is manual since it takes a lot of screenspace.

(It has a bit longer build-up phase which I cut out for this post)

A desktop pet... Turret? Still early in development, looking for feedback/ideas.

I started this project about a week ago, and its my first attempt at a transparent desktop game. Trying to do something a bit different, so instead of cute pets its just a zombie massacre at the bottom of your monitor.

I have got a few ideas of my own, like shooting based on key presses, or maybe a typing speed mini-game. But I wanted some fresh eyes to get some feedback on its current state, new ideas, or anything that I might've missed.

I have a very basic test build as well, with a debug menu that I'll be linking below:

Some content update for my game! A bit more 80s commercial like promo that I made

With this update I pivoted from an infinite climber to a smaller experience like game. I do plan on reintegrating the climbing with some multiplayer elements in the future.

An 80s Commercial themed trailer for my content update

The last time I posted about our game, it was an infinite rage climbing game. Now it's more of a short contained experience with some content added.

Keeping in continuation with the retro 80s theme, we made a small trailer for it, which looks like an 80s commercial (or atleast that's what we tried, let us know how it went)

Game View / Editor View

Saw quite a few vides here about how wildly the editor setup varied from game view, but I never had projects which went as far. This one was somewhat closer to that however, so I thought to share.

I believe this fits here

"Please Step Forward" is a retro 80s style rage game about climbing stairs.

The visual style is inspired by analog horror ARGS.

It has jumping, and a portable checkpoint system in the form of a hook and rope.

The goal is to reach higher altitudes in lower number of jumps.
