One of my basic issues with capitalism is the laissez-faire and unaccountable nature of it. From what I understand, the whole theory behind free market capitalism since Adam Smith has been that it allows the economy to regulate itself with price signals and supply and demand without the need for intervention. That kind of capitalism essentially just creates economic anarchy and incentivizes scams, crime, and exploitation. That true laissez-faire capitalism is far behind us now, and we have laws in place to prevent selling drugs, human trafficking, scamming, etc. People figure out ways around these laws since the nature of the system rewards it so much, but still. My question is at what point does regulation become too much regulation? Would you prefer a truly anarchic economic system, or is there a specific threshold?

I got half a gram of MT55 from lift mode, and the experience has been a little underwhelming. The first time I had it I used how ever much the big end on the orange spoon it comes with contains, and took it sublingually. Music sounded a bit better and I was smiling a lot more. I've taken the same amount since then and haven't felt much, as if I felt much the first time anyway. I'm wondering if I'm just placebo-effecting myself into not regretting my purchase. Am I just not taking enough, or does this just not do much anyway? What should I actually expect?

For context, myself (28m) and my wife (28f) have been living together with our dog since I got my degree. We live two states away from my parents, so they come over for Christmas every year. We don't have a ton of time or opportunities to see each other outside of that, and we look forward to it every year. My wife's folks live on the other side of the world, so we've only gone to see them a few times.

Every year is pretty standard, my parents come by and stay in our spare bedroom, and show up a week before Christmas and leave a few days into the new year. My dad is into elk hunting, and we live in a pretty good area for it, so he brings all his nice gear and we go out a few times together. We always bring our dog, since he seemed to enjoy it too and runs after the elk once it gets shot. Overall, very nice time and I look forward to it.

This last year had a few incidents that really distressed me. We only came across one elk that day, and I missed when I took my shot. My dog ran after it, and came back a minute later. My dad seemed pretty frustrated, understandably so since we had just sat out in the cold for several hours with no luck. On the drive home though he seemed to blame it on the dog. He said the elk could smell it and that was keeping them away, but also that we would have had that elk if my dog could just run faster. I didn't think much of it, we were all cold and tired and just wanted to get home.

When we got home, I took a shower and got changed, and came downstairs to find my dad coming out of the bathroom, still in his boots and hunting gear, followed by my dog. I asked him what he was doing in the bathroom with my dog and he said something like "oh you know, sometimes you gotta teach an old dog new tricks". My dog ran outside and didn't come back for a few hours, but he seemed ok then.

I felt really weird about it but thought I must be misunderstanding something. The next day I heard my dog whimpering and yipping, and once again, saw my dog rush past me and out the door, and my dad leaving the bathroom. This time I pressed him on what he did to my dog, and he said he noticed all these problems my dog had while we were hunting, and read online that sodomizing my dog would fix it. He said it with a perfectly straight face and said he does it all the time to his dogs at home, and that it's a "totally normal part of owning a dog".

I was obviously horrified, and told him he had to get out of my house right now or I would be calling the police. He got defensive and we started shouting at each other. My wife came downstairs and I told her what was going on, and she agreed that they had to go.

I texted my mom who was out at the time, and she talked to him when she got home. She apologized on behalf of my dad, but said it wasn't a big deal and we should just forget it and move on. I said I didn't want him staying in the house with my dog around, and she said he's "just a dog, get over it".

This whole ordeal was actually after Christmas, so they left the next day anyway. I haven't talked to them since, much less about the ordeal. I wish it hadn't been the last thing we talked about, now there's a weird dynamic. I do not want my dad anywhere near my dog, but it's clear they don't think anything is wrong. It seems from what everyone writes here, any problems you have with your parents should be solved with cutting off all contact like a light switch. I feel strongly about all this, but it's also pretty much the only time we see each other, and cutting off contact with the people who raised me and with whom I've had no problems like this before seems extreme. We could have Christmas at their place I guess, I don't know. It's been months, maybe I should have done something sooner, it seems inappropriate to do anything now. I don't know.

Kava tastes like dirt. The kava bars in Vanuatu literally sell food and drinks with their kava because even after thousands of years of the islanders drinking it, it just tastes bad. That being said, there are all kinds of pre-mixed kava drinks you can buy online that are made from actual kava and are made to taste good. They're expensive, though. I'm totally ok with just drinking it the traditional way, but if anyone here has any tips on making it taste great, I'd love to hear it.

I just got some fiji vanua kava, and it's been great. The first time I tried it I did 3 tbsp like the serving instructions said, and had some mild but noticeable effects. Mainly just really relaxed. It wasn't on an empty stomach, so that probably dampened it a little. The next morning, I still had a good mood lift. That evening I did 4 tbsp on an empty stomach, and another 2 at peak effects, and felt it super strong. I've seen people question if they're feeling the effects or not, and convince themselves that they are, but oh boy, if it's not plainly obvious to you that you're feeling it, then you're probably not feeling it (at least for me idk). Today, though, I just feel spent. I've felt a little loopy and floaty all day, and generally kind of weird. Mentally, I'm totally clear, and I feel fine enough to do whatever, but I probably won't have any kava tonight. I want to know if you guys experience after effects like this, or if I just really overdid it.
