Are vitamin D deficiency symptoms really supposed to be this severe?

I’m looking for some perspective from people who have experienced vitamin D deficiency.
About two months ago, my 25(OH)D level was 44 ng/mL. Since that blood test, I completely stopped taking vitamin D supplements and I haven’t been getting meaningful sun exposure.
I recently tested again and my level was 23 ng/mL meaning it dropped 21 points in about two months, which surprised me.
At the same time, I’ve been experiencing a lot of symptoms:
Extreme fatigue and almost no energy
Significant muscle weakness
Muscle stiffness/tension throughout my body
Dull aching/bone pain, especially around my elbows, shoulders, arms, hands and knees
Poor balance/unsteadiness when walking
Almost complete loss of appetite… I basically never feel hungry
Nausea
Depression/low mood
Increased hair shedding, much more than my normal daily shedding
My face looks unusually pale with a slightly yellowish tinge

My ferritin, b12, and everything else came back normal. But I’m wondering:

Are vitamin D deficiency symptoms really capable of feeling this severe?
And for those familiar with vitamin D levels, is a drop from 44 to 23 ng/mL over only two months after stopping supplementation and sun exposure plausible? Has anyone else experienced a decline that quickly?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially if you’ve had similar symptoms or had your levels measured before and after stopping vitamin D.

Why do I still suffer despite constantly making dua for healing from my chronic illness?

Assalamu alaikum everyone.
I have a chronic illness that affects my daily life significantly. I deal with pain, nausea and exhaustion on a regular basis, and honestly, some days are extremely difficult. This illness has ruined my quality of life, I don’t feel like I’m living, I feel like I’m surviving. Being tired, in pain, and the inability to live like others has tremendously affected my mental health as well. I spend the majority of my time at home because I literally don’t have the energy to function. I constantly make dua to Allah to heal me, and I genuinely hope and believe that He is capable of healing me.
But despite making dua for healing, I am still suffering every day.
I understand that illness can be a test, that it can expiate sins, and that being patient through hardship can raise a person’s rank. I’ve heard these explanations many times, and I do find comfort in them. But sometimes I struggle to understand why Allah would allow someone to continue suffering for so long when they are sincerely begging Him for relief and healing.
If Allah is the Most Merciful and hears our duas, how should I understand it when I keep asking for healing but remain ill?
Does it mean that Allah has a different plan for me? Could there be wisdom in the illness that I simply cannot see right now? And how should someone maintain hope and patience when the illness affects their quality of life every single day?
I’d really appreciate hearing from Muslims who have experienced chronic illness themselves or have studied this topic. How did you understand your unanswered duas for healing?

The fatigue is unbearable. Does anyone else spend the majority of their time in bed?

I genuinely wanna do more in life but I physically can’t. Even taking a shower takes so much energy. Does anyone else here spend the majority of their time in bed? I barely go out anymore, I’m basically house bound at this point. It’s so difficult living with this illness and no one truly understands how it feels until they experience it for themselves.

I have a chronic illness… if I’ve already repented, can my illness still elevate my rank?

Assalamu alaikum everyone.
I’m struggling with something and would really appreciate an Islamic perspective.
I have a chronic illness that causes me severe fatigue, pain, and difficulties with my daily life. It has been really hard for me physically and emotionally.
I’ve already repented to Allah for my sins and sincerely asked Him for forgiveness. So I’m wondering: if I have already repented for my sins, could this chronic illness still be a means of elevating my rank in the Hereafter?
I understand that illness can expiate sins, but if the sins have already been repented for, does the suffering still have another purpose… such as increasing my rewards, elevating my rank, bringing me closer to Allah, or testing my patience?
And was it already decreed by Allah that I would have this illness, including all the fatigue, pain, and limitations it causes? If Allah knew I would develop this illness before I was born, does that mean this was part of my qadr?
I’m not asking because I don’t believe in Allah’s wisdom. I’m just struggling to understand why I personally have to go through something that affects so much of my life, and I’m hoping to find some comfort in what the Qur’an, authentic hadith, and Islamic scholars say about chronic illness.
If anyone has knowledge or has gone through something similar, I’d really appreciate your perspective.
May Allah cure me and everyone who is suffering, and reward us for our patience. Ameen.

My cousin died in a car accident last week at the age of only 24… was her time already decreed?

Assalamu alaykum everyone.
My cousin recently passed away in a car accident. She was only 24 years old, and I’m struggling to understand something from an Islamic perspective.
If Allah had already decreed the exact time and manner of her death, does that mean that she would have died at that exact time regardless of whether she got into that car?
For example, if she had decided not to go in the car that day, would she still have died somehow at that exact moment because her lifespan had already been decreed? Or was the car accident itself the means through which Allah had decreed her death?
Basically, I’m trying to understand how qadr and the means that lead to someone’s death work in Islam.
If she had made a different decision and stayed home, would her death have been delayed, or would another event have happened because her appointed time had already arrived?
I would really appreciate answers based on Qur’an, authentic hadith, and explanations from reliable scholars. Jazakum Allahu khayran.

Is this normal ? Did this happen to anyone else? Plz help.

2 months ago I got a blood test and my vitamin D level was 44 ng/ml

I stopped spending time in the sun and I stopped taking vitamin D supplements thinking I’d be fine, thinking it wouldn’t decrease that much. Boy, was I wrong. 2 months go by and I start feeling weak, tired, depressed , muscle pain, trouble concentrating and no appetite.

Few days ago i did another blood test, and my levels are at 23 ng/ml

Is it normal that my levels decreased that much in only 2 months due to no sun exposure (i dont go out much, I work from home, I rarely get sun + I stopped my vitamin D supplement of 5,000 IU)

Has anyone experienced anything similar ? The fact that it decreased by 21 ng is insane, I had no clue that vitamin D can drop that quickly…

Did anyone else feel horrible in the 30’s (ng/ml)? (I know it’s considered normal, but my symptoms say otherwise)

Currently at 34 ng/ml and I feel like crap. My iron, folate, b12, everything else etc was normal. I know this level is considered normal on the lab range but I don’t feel good or energised these days.

I’m curious if anyone here has experienced significant symptoms with a vitamin D level in the 30s ng/mL.
Did you have symptoms like:
- Extreme fatigue
- Muscle cramps/stiffness
- Low energy
- Feeling physically exhausted
- Depression

If so, what was your vitamin D level, and did you start feeling better after raising it? If yes, how long did it take before you noticed improvement?
I know everyone’s different, but I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences. Thanks!

Could really use some reassurance right now.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some reassurance or experiences from people who have gone through something similar.

I was prescribed Effexor (venlafaxine) and risperidone, and I took both medications for about one week. From the very first dose, I started experiencing dizziness, a heavy feeling in my body/legs, fatigue, and problems with my balance. Walking started to feel unsteady, almost like I was walking on a boat.

I stopped both medications abruptly, and it has now been 9 days since my last dose. The anxiety has improved somewhat, but I’m still dealing with dizziness, heaviness, and feeling unsteady when I walk. Before starting these medications, I was active and had good stamina, so this change has been really scary for me.

Has anyone experienced balance issues, dizziness, or physical symptoms after stopping Effexor and/or risperidone, even after only taking them for a short time?

How long did it take before you started feeling like yourself again? Did things gradually improve after the first couple of weeks? Or is this something permanent ? No one is taking me seriously because I only took this medications for a week so they think it’s impossible for me to be affected to this degree and to have these withdrawals but I even felt this way while on the medications. I just really wanna go back to the gym again but I can’t when my balance is crap, energy levels are low and my muscles feel weak.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar. Thank you.

I only took it for a week. I can’t believe this.

Is this normal ? I stopped taking Effexor one week ago and I still have balance issues and unsteady walking. I’m SO dizzy. I’m so anxious. I’m so fatigued. No appetite whatsoever. Does anyone know if this is a symptom of Effexor withdrawal ? Does anyone know if it will go away? The day before taking this medications I was fine. I was able to workout , tons of energy. Now only a week off this medication, I can’t function. Plz plz tell me it will go away. Im so scared. I just want my stamina back. I want to go back to the gym. The anxiety is killing me. I was on 37.5 mg for 7 days. Today is day 7 without the medication. I could really use some reassurance right now.

I just can’t believe this happened. I only took this medication for one week. And now it’s been exactly a week without it.

Will I heal ? And how long will it take ? Thanks in advance for you responses, I truly appreciate it.

Withdrawal after only 1 week on Effexor (37.5 mg) — did anyone else experience this?

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience because I was surprised by what happened.
I took Effexor (venlafaxine) 37.5 mg for only one week and stopped cold turkey. I was also taking risperidone 1 mg for that same week, and I stopped both at the same time. And top it all off, my doctor won’t take me seriously. He’s telling me that it’s impossible to get withdrawals because I only took these medications for a week. It’s driving me insane.

About a few days after stopping, I started feeling really unwell:
- dizziness and feeling unsteady when walking
- fatigue and heavy body feeling
- muscle weakness
- depression and anxiety
- loss of appetite
- nightmares

It’s been 6 days since stopping these medications and im still having withdrawals.

I know most people talk about withdrawal after months or years of use, so I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced discontinuation symptoms after a short trial like one week.
How long did it take you to feel back to normal? Did your symptoms gradually improve?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who had a similar experience.

Yesterday I had my fourth injection. (1,000 mcg of hydroxcobalmin) I’m doing every other injections) and today im suffering from a lot of symptoms. Could it be low potassium? I don’t even eat potassium rich diet to begin with.

Muscle weakness (I can barely get out of bed)
Loss of appetite
Dizziness
Walking is difficult (my balance is so bad)
Increased anxiety
Extreme fatigue
Shortness of breath after going up the stairs (I’m in shape , this never happens)
Nausea

Is this normal?

Is it normal for fatigue to improve before balance ?

Thankfully I feel less tired today but a symptom I’m still experiencing is poor balance, I don’t feel steady when walking. Does anyone know why fatigue improves first ? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, I’m not really educated on this topic. Thank you!

Did anyone have B12 deficiency symptoms with levels in the 400s (pg/mL)?

I’m wondering if anyone here experienced B12 deficiency symptoms even though their blood B12 level was in the 400s.

I know many labs consider this range “normal,” but I’ve read that some people can still experience symptoms at these levels depending on the person and the situation. (Also, fun fact, some countries consider anything below 500 pg/ml as insufficient)

If your B12 was in the 400s, did you have symptoms such as tingling, numbness, burning sensations, fatigue, balance issues, brain fog, depression, weakness, or anything else? Did your symptoms improve after taking B12?

I’m sick and tired of doctors not taking me seriously because my level is “normal”

I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences, thank you :)

Did anyone else have symptoms in the high 400’s ?

My b12 levels are at 455… doctor says it’s normal but my symptoms say otherwise… my b12 level was at 544 3 months ago, so as you can see, it went down for some reason. I also got my ferritin, folate, magnesium and vitamin D checked, and those all came back normal. My symptoms are fatigue, depression, brain fog, irritability and muscle stiffness.

Is it just or me or did anyone else feel like crap at this level ? I’m miss having energy.. I miss being happy.

Edit: I’m not a vegan or vegetarian and I consume animal products on a daily basis, so I feel confused as to why my b12 went down.

Did anyone still have symptoms with vitamin D levels in the high 30s to low 40s ng/mL?

Hi everyone,
I’m curious if anyone here still experienced symptoms when their vitamin D level was in the high 30s to low 40s ng/mL (around 38–42 ng/mL).

If so:
- What level are you at?
- What symptoms were you having?
- Did they improve after increasing your vitamin D level further?
- At what level did you feel your best at?

I know everyone is different, so I’m just interested in hearing other people’s experiences. Thanks!
