Ideas for grilled pork tenderloin

Hi team

Monday night I grilled two pork tenderloins. We had one that night with basil / lemon pasta and broccoli.

I need to use the other one tonight as a meal for the two of us. It is spiced with a blend of southwest / creole spices roughly (smoked paprika, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, thyme, garlic, etc)

I have considered a couple of things:

  • A cajun alfredo sauce (but I don't really want pasta again)
  • Slice it thin and make a mock cubano sandwich with our panini press
  • Do a vegetable stir fry and add the pork at the last minute / serve over some rice (Uninspired / boring)
  • Lettuce wraps (my wife still doesn't want to eat lettuce)

Thoughts/Ideas?

Pro Tip: Don't be like me

For years I would freeze my bottle when it was about 15% full. That bottom ice block was then a source of cooling until it melted away, which was usually long enough to get me through a long pickleball session.

A few weeks ago I noticed it bulged a bit at the bottom when I did it and I thought "oops, that was too much water". The next time I did it:

"CAP'N!!!! HULL BREACH IN THE AFT COMPARTMENT!!"

RIP to an awesome bottle. I got no one but myself to blame but it's a good trick until you overdo it!!

Q: Chicken for enchiladas

I have chicken hindquarters. I typically stew them for enchiladas (and then I can use the leftover broth for sauce or another purpose) but I was wondering if the chicken would taste better if I roasted it in the oven instead?

I guess I could grill it too. Thoughts?

Questions on Electric Toothbrush

I finally got one. I didn't' think I'd adjust because the vibrations bugged me so much, but it didn't take any time at all to adjust. I had years of being a "scrubber" and hurting my back teeth so I'm trying to use CORRECT technique with my electric from day one.

Is there consensus that this technique is correct?

Another question I have: I'm finding that with an E-toothbrush I tend to really battle "drool" LOL. I'm dripping foamy spit out of my mouth. This didn't happen when I was using a regular toothbrush. Does this happen to others? How have you corrected it??

When I'm done brushing, I rinse the toothbrush but after it dries there's toothpaste residue on the outside dried on. I look like such a slob. I'm afraid if I spend too much effort cleaning it, I'll get water in the motor/battery and ruin it.

Allo TV => DirectTV

I know it's pretty "boomer" of us to have Allo TV but I had analysis paralysis a few years ago when I wanted to turn it off and just "left it running". Now that it's going away, I'm wondering:

Did any of you do the switch to DirectTV recently? What was the discount for DirectTV?

I've got pricing on YouTube TV as an alternative to compare it to. Seems expensive at $83/month.

When will it end??

Look at these "sale" prices from my local Fareway. Chuck is $9/lb. Choice ribeye is $24/lb

They are a good butcher and carry good products. And yes, I can save money by shopping elsewhere. But they are a good barometer of the overall cost of beef. I know WHY prices are high I'm just wondering if the experts have predicted when prices might start to ease back down?

Using points at a resort. Holy Moly! Sticker shock!

This is not really a RANT, just a question about brand strategy. I only have about 200K points right now, but I thought I could use them for PART of a stay in Grand Cayman next year. Perhaps pay for 2 of our 5 nights.

Instead, I find that a single night is 360K points. Ooops.

My question is: I would think a major brand like Hilton or Marriot would try to lure their brand-loyal guests to their properties at tourist destinations by allowing a "decent" discount with points. I wonder why they don't?

My reaction to seeing that only Diamond - level travelers can use points at a Hilton made me close the window and go seek out a non-corporate / boutique / special property instead.

EDIT: Good education from the replies and thank you. I was looking at a premier hotel (ONE) and not the standard Hilton. When I moved over to the regular Hilton, I was able to see that a standard room was ~75K points. The room looks spartan and boring, but you don't go on vacation to lay around the hotel room! I'll never be able to travel like James Bond, will I?

Also: the "Hotel fees" are hilariously high. Tourism Tax = 13% and then the room gets another round of fees added to it.

Long cake idea

I noticed this cake lasts ~3 minutes! There's nothing crazy going on but I was thinking I could use this as a "background" cake during a finale. While it was going off and staying busy, other things could be simultaneously going.

Is that a strategy you seasoned vets ever do? If so, do you have examples of other long-lasting cakes?

Personal Shopper

You know what would be nice?? Someone to select your 1.4G fireworks for you to ensure you get the maximum bang (GET IT?? GET IT?) for your buck.

The catalog is great. The price list makes sense. But which ones are the good choices?

The payment would be a percentage of money spent. So if I spend $500 on fireworks I would owe my shopper.. 2%? 3%? 5%? Not sure what you would need to charge to make it worth your while.

Has anyone ever done this?

I'm planning on buying from Schneitter fireworks.

Fire Exit: Optional

If you are at a wedding reception at the Pella in Blackstone, be sure not to have a fire. One of the exits doesn’t exactly work. Unless you want move a bunch of tables and chairs out of the way.

If anybody knows someone with the Fire Marshall office, they should pay a visit here.

Ignorant Yank question

Outside of a couple stupid PK‘s it was a nearly perfect season for our side.

How do you Brits compare a great Arsenal season to the 3 Lions in the World Cup?

Would you trade Arsenal moving to the lower third of the table next year in exchange for an English World Cup?

As a Yank, we don’t really have anything to compare to. Since our American football, baseball and basketball teams don’t really compete on a global stage.

"Vintage" cocktail bar?

Coming to town this week and want to grab a beverage one night. <sure. just one.>

Is there a notable cocktail bar you'd recommend where the room is dark, the drinks are stiff, the carpet is shag, and the vibe is naugahyde?

I am pretty sure there isn't a tiki bar, correct?

If there isn't a "classy lounge", is there a craft cocktail bar where the prices are high, but the artisanship is as well?

IT'S UP TO YOU!!

<loud game-show weirdo voice>

"It's YOUR turn! What do you say??"

I need help from you to plan my beverage(s) tonight. It's been a long, dry week and I'm looking forward, very much, to mixing up some goodies this evening.

I'm asking for help because I want to use that crazy Milot Clairin (Patrick St Surin) on hand that I haven't used since I bought it and tasted it.

Split base? Ti Punch? I think anything that you would use a distinctive Agricole Blanc for is a good candidate.

I have most of the standard tiki things on hand including other rums in all of the SC categories.

I could make a small something with the Clairin and then make a second small beverage too.

Weekend in DSM soon

Greetings Hawkclones

We are coming for a weekend getaway in a couple of weeks. We'll be staying in Sherman Hill neighborhood. We've been to the area several times in the past, but they are mostly pass-through experiences: West Des Moines (family visits). Zombie Burger. Graziano Bros for sausage and pasta. Ankeney (gymnastics).

  • We want to go to one fancypants dinner. I have a reservation at Oak Park but am open to other suggestions.
  • Any fabulous cocktail bars? We like mid-century martini dives but also serious mixologist joints too. Is there a Tiki bar in DSM?
  • Perhaps sushi the other night: is there a value-driven sushi joint since we'll be spending big money the other night? Or maybe great Mexican food? We are from "the west" originally so Midwest-Mex doesn't really appeal to us. Tex-Mex or authentic Mexican comida would be best. Or even pizza? Is Fong's still a fun thing or is it just for tourists? Have never been but it's obviously nationally famous.
  • We'll hit the Farmers market on Sat morning I believe. But other ideas for strolling about? Good museums or galleries open on weekends? We are more interested in art than history typically, but a good experience is always a good experience.
  • Hiking areas that aren't too far from downtown?

TIA!

EDIT: I had my burger joint name confused because I'm a dope.

Just another searching rant. So. Very. Frustrating.

I went to Chosic and gave it a random song I was thinking of. It gave me a list of playlists that contain that song. Naturally it gave me mostly Spotify lists (which are just re-generated stuff I already have) so I skipped down to a user-generated one that looked promising. I went to Spotify search and put in the name of the list. It of course returns 3 BILLION playlists sort of related but of course not the one I asked for. So, I go to the user's profile (thinking maybe the playlist is hidden / non-public). No, it's there and easy to find and play.

I tried to search with quotes for "exact phrase" but of course that doesn't work either. I just don't understand why Spotify does NOT want us to be able to search for stuff? If they are worried about bogging down the production database, perhaps they can off-load a daily dump of data that we can search through without impacting the system itself?

Screaming in the wind, nothing will ever change, but man it's just the shittiest user interface!

Fading irritation

Using my iOS app I’m losing the first 5 to 10 seconds of songs as they collide on top of each other. I feel like I have everything turned off that would create fading. What do I do next?

Espresso Machine repair

Our Rancilio is giving us fits and I heard 3rd hand that there is someone in town that does espresso machine tinkering. Anyone have a lead on this?

And before you suggest it: We've already taken her to Midwest in Bellevue, and they said she was "good to go" but it didn't fix the issue. They didn't charge us either so I'm not cranky about it.

Gaining CPE by passing RPA Cert for CMMC?

Has anyone claimed CPE credits for studying / passing the RPA cert for CMMC? If so: how and how many credits did you get. I've tried to google and review ISACA website and I *THINK* this is the answer:

"Two CPE hours are earned for each examination hour when a passing score is achieved"

That's a lot of work for 2 CPE credits!
