Open-faced hummus/pepperjack/tomato sandwiches

On grain bread. Eaten over the cutting board so I didn’t have to dirty a plate. Quite yummy, even as a former tomato-hater.

Plant-based butter chicken from the dollar store

Decent quick meal for $3.50 CAD at Dollarama. It comes with too much rice (a whole Uncle Ben microwave size pouch), so I just used half and added some frozen chickpeas. The plant-based chicken chunks are mediocre. Somewhat lacking on flavor, but not on the sodium. 6/10 considering price.

What is your most Canadian CD? 🇨🇦

This “Canada 24” comp looks corny but has some pretty core Canadian tracks on it (Patio Lanterns by Kim Mitchell anyone??). What is the most Canadian CD in your collection? Happy Canada Day!

Who’s excited for Weezer this weekend in Halifax?

I am! 🙋‍♂️ finally seeing them for the first time, been a fan since the 90s.

Also a past/present fan of Jimmy Eat World, Silversun Pickups, and Dashboard Confessional. Should be a good show!

Scream, Dracula, Scream!

Happy to see this classic Rocket From The Crypt album reissued by Interscope in 2026. Definitely wore the CD out in the 90s.

Not usually a fan of bargain compilations but this has a solid track list

Was on the hunt for Midnight Train to Georgia and came across this “Pure… Legends” collection with a bunch of classic gems. I don’t have a ton of oldies in my collection (nor do I want), so this set fills that gap for me in one package. Normally not a fan of the mass produced “Now” or Time Life type compilations, but happy to have this one in my collection when the mood strikes.

Top strip seals are my nemesis

I hate these stickers! They don't come off all the way, and they leave a sticky mess behind. Time to bust out the Goo Gone 🙃

The first and only(?) "Rainbow Disc" (The Cranberries - Doors and Windows)

From the back cover:

>Introducing the first Rainbow™ disc, one CD that will play on audio players, Mac and Windows computers, and CD-i players. Hang out with the Cranberries as they share five tracks, concert footage, home video, interviews, song lyrics and photos.

Does anyone know if any other "Rainbow" discs were released? Or did this lose out to the standard "Enhanced CD" format?

I had this one as a teenager in the 90s but my family's PC was too shitty to play it, had to use the school's iMac to watch the content. The first track was the data track, and it would murder your ears if you tried to play it in a regular CD player (you know kids are going to try when they write "do not attempt" on the back).

Bad, Better, Best

Regarding the little tabs that hold jewel case booklets in place, can we all agree leftmost is the absolute worst? It’s just there to slice and dice the booklet 💀

How I "fix" damaged/missing discs in my collection (no more sharpie for me!)

Occasionally in my collection I run into misprints (like my Meat Puppets that plays a totally different band), missing discs (I don't like throwing away cases if artwork is fine), or discs that are damaged/etc.

I've always been fine with burning a CD-R replacement for these discs (FLAC+CUE), but the sharpie labels I used to make never felt right in my collection (even if temporary*).

Thanks to an old LGR video I recently came across the Casio WS-50 / WS-75 thermal disc printer which makes CD-Rs look more legit. Found one cheap on eBay and wow! I wish I had this thing 25 years ago!

The goal is not to fool anyone (they are still clearly CD-Rs), but I've been "fixing" a small number of discs in my collection for my personal enjoyment. Feels a lot better than sharpie!

*I keep track of these discs and plan to condition upgrade them if I ever come across legit replacements in the future, but the urgency is certainly less now.

Any radio station copies in your collection?

I have quite a few former radio station CDs in my collection, not on purpose just random pickups (often from sellers on Discogs who say “VG, has marks”). Sometimes I try cleaning the marker off, but this one is so heavily marked up I’m just embracing it as part of this album’s story. Kinda cool actually.
