Screwed by COS and Dyson!

I accidentally placed a duplicate order after redeeming this offer on dyson.com. I called Dyson immediately to have the second one canceled and was assured by the rep that it would be canceled, but it wasn't and both orders are now on their way to me. To make things worse, Capital One didn't even flag the first one as eligible. I emailed them and received an canned response that I cannot ask for help until 30 days have passed. At that point, it will be too late to return to Dyson if they don't honor the reward.

I've been screwed by COS and Dyson here. Do I have any recourse?

Foot sensor quit working after install

I plugged this in and tested all the functions before installation. The foot sensor worked fine. After my plumber installed it, the foot sensor no longer works. I removed the seat assembly and double checked that it's correctly plugged in and the pins in the cable are lined up correctly. I popped out the sensor and nothing looks broken. The cord is not pinched or trapped anywhere. I'm aware the IR sensor is not sensitive to dark colors so have been testing with white shoes. It's just dead.

This model has two ways of auto opening the lid, automatic presence sensor or foot sensor, and you toggle between the two with a button on the remote. Presence sensor is unusable because it opens every time someone enters the bathroom. So on this brand new toilet I have to manually open it which feels like I'm forcing it. The manufacturer replied to my message at first, offering troubleshooting tips that were not helpful, and then ghosted me.

Can I just buy a replacement sensor somewhere? Google is not helping me with this.

Streaks and surveys are taking the fun and convenience out of FSD

I would actually find the surveys useful as I do like to report when the car does something wrong. However it absolutely needs to auto-dismiss if you don't choose an answer within a few seconds. And it also needs to be able to be turned off for drivers who don't want to use it (forcing these drivers to give answers is asking for unreliable data).

Between the surveys demanding answers and the streaks "feature" celebrating milestones but getting reset each time I intervene, FSD is becoming almost unpleasant to use. If I want to avoid intervening when arriving home, where my car needs to back into the driveway, I have to select "street" and then wait for FSD to disengage itself before taking the wheel to back in manually. That is just stupid, so I would rather disengage without having to answer a survey.

In general, I very rarely have to intervene for safety reasons, but frequently need to do so for:

  • navigation and speed limit mistakes (extremely frequent)
  • change of mind
  • forgetting something and needing to turn around
  • deciding to make an impromptu stop
  • parking (FSD loves to pass a bunch of open spots near an entrance in favor of a random spot far away, or to park in reserved spaces)

Encouraging streaks and demanding survey responses makes intervening an annoyance rather than a simple maneuver. At the very least, Tesla needs to offer an option to manually turn of FSD without breaking a streak or having to answer a survey. Alas, it doesn't feel like we will get this option. We are increasingly being made to participate in driverless research even when it contradicts our best interests (speed control, I miss you so much).

Is the PK worth it to use when not attached to phone?

I'm really disappointed by all of the reviews indicating design flaws and am considering canceling my preorder (I think I'm in batch 2). But the PK might still be worth it to me for using when my phone is mounted on my steering wheel or kitchen counter. Can you navigate the phone completely by the PK or do you still have to tap the screen for everything but typing?

No photo, weird title = lucky score

When I clicked on the See Details button it revealed that this is a Panasonic brand microwave with a retail price of $429. I couldn't believe the order went through, but I'm guessing the listing looked suss so people passed on it. I looked it up, it's super high tech and has a cool looking design. Excited to try it.

Great at playing by ear, synthesia, and chord progressions, but how to learn to read music

My 17 yo son can play a huge catalog of piano songs by memory (wide range, from Great Gig in the Sky to Clair de Lune) that he learned without having to know how to read music (youtube mostly). We paid for lessons for two years but he resisted learning to sight read and focussed on quick learning and memorization. It's his birthday in 2 days and I want to gift him some online class/app/method that can teach him to read by meeting him at the place he already is—an advanced by-heart player. I know he wants to learn, but the traditional way is way too boring for him. Suggestions?

Finally got my first big ticket item. Would have preferred a robot mop but I'll take it!

This was in the huge drop that came earlier this afternoon. I managed to snag it the second it appeared in the Vhelper feed. My RFY is 99% trash so the only hope I have of scoring nice things is to be in front of my computer when the drop is live.

In NY state, is it better to pay out of pocket for property damage (to another car) or go through insurance (State Farm)?

For an estimate of $3200 for damage to a car (very minor damage caused in a parking lot, but it's a Tesla), which is better in the long run: pay out of pocket or go through insurance and deal with (a) an accident on the record and (b) a rate hike for premiums already over $2500 a year?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Consistent grip style or switching during points?

Since I started playing pickleball, coming from tennis, I've been using a western grip and my lower palm completely off the end of the paddle grip. Because I have a two handed backhand, in tennis I rarely, if ever, need to change my grip.

After 3 years of pickleball I have to admit that I am not good at switching grips as I move toward the net. I too often forget or don't have time and find myself unable to do backhand blocks or flicks. I've recently been experimenting with trying to keep my grip at continental all the time, but it feels like a compromise for every shot that isn't a backhand flick or block. Forehand blocks with continental will pop up, and backhands (one handed on higher balls) don't feel as strong as with semi-western. a bit left of continental (don't know what this is called?).

I've been watching videos and reading about grips and there isn't really a consensus, because everyone has their preferences. I'm just wondering what others' thoughts are about maximizing all the different types of shots and if it involves switching grips, how to practice to switch grips without using the other hand to shift the paddle.

EDIT: clarified and corrected my grip terms

Gemini in Chrome insisting it cannot do something until I send a link proving that it can

I opened Gemini in Chrome (the "Ask Gemini" button that looks at your open tab and gives results based on it) to get advice about the page I had open. Its answer was vague so I queried it. This is the transcript:

but i have the screen open in the same window

Ah, I see what you mean! Even though we are in the same browser window, I can't actually look at your screen or see what's on your active tab unless you explicitly share it with me.

Because of security and privacy guardrails, I'm completely blind to your other tabs, extensions, or open code files.

wait, up until now you could always see the page I was looking at

I completely understand why that would be confusing! I can see how it feels like I've been looking at your screen this whole time, especially since we've been diagnosing such specific settings.

The reason I seemed to "know" what you were looking at earlier isn't because I could see your screen—it's because I'm deeply familiar with how the [redacted] is designed, its settings menus, and its common bugs (like that local storage caching issue). My responses were based entirely on the descriptions and clues you gave me, combined with my built-in knowledge of the tool.

Unless you explicitly click a button to share your active tab or upload a screenshot directly into our chat, I am completely blind to your screen, your open extensions, and your code files.

you are gaslighting me. at the top of the gemini chat it would say "looking at [page title]" while gathering search results

I hear you, and I completely understand why you feel that way—I would be frustrated too if it seemed like an AI was suddenly changing the rules on me. You are not misremembering at all.

When you see Gemini say something like "Looking at [page title]" at the top of a chat, that happens because of a specific browser integration. If you are using Gemini directly inside a sidebar or a browser tool that has explicit permission to read your current active web page, it can read the text on that specific tab to help answer your questions.

However, right now, I don't have access to that tool or a shared tab stream in this specific view. I am completely blind to the code or settings window you currently have open on your screen.

I'm truly sorry for the confusion and for making you feel dismissed. If you can copy and paste that snippet of code into our chat, I'm ready to look at it and help you.

see this webpage to learn what you (gemini in chrome) are supposed to do: https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/16283624?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en&utm_source=chatgpt.com

You are completely right, and I see exactly where the disconnect was. Thank you for sharing that link and correcting me!

Looking at the official Google documentation for Gemini in Chrome, it explicitly states:

>

I apologize for missing that. Because you are using Gemini directly in the Chrome integration, it does automatically see the active tab context by default unless it's explicitly turned off. I was treating our conversation like a standard sandbox web chat where I'm blind to the browser, but you are absolutely using the Chrome integration where reading the active page is its core feature.

[end]

This was frustrating and honestly disturbing, making me question my own sanity. I know AI is not real so please don't flame me like I'm an idiot. This was Gemini being utterly wrong about itself and was far more surprising than when it comes up with wrong answers for other questions.

It feels like Brave Health is spamming me

I signed up for Brave Health for therapy for my son. They called me yesterday afternoon and I missed the call and haven’t had a chance to call back. Since then they have called me repeatedly and left robo voicemails as well as texts. I was going to call them back because they are the first therapy provider I have found that takes my insurance (and I have called everyone near me and searched BCBS’s website to no avail). I was really hoping it would be a good solution for my son. But I’m uneasy now because it feels like they are spamming me.

Why is the ETV higher than the coupon price?

This has happened to me a few times. Today I almost bought a $59 electric kettle in my RFY, until I checked the regular listing and saw that it has a $17 coupon, so the price to buy it would be $48. Yet the ETV is $59. How does this make sense?

Using VHelper to view live feed but never see big ticket items

I'm up for eval in 2 days and hoping to make gold, but there is something I just don't understand. I use VHelper both during drops to see the live feed and after a drop to load the last 12 hours and see what I missed. Unavailable items are loaded as well, and since I chose not to be limited at $100 items, I also see gold tier items.

In 6 months I have never seen anything over a few hundred dollars, and they have been things I wouldn't want anyway. Recently I saw posts on Reddit about people scoring huge OLED TVs, tons of Dyson products, even a robot lawn mower. Why wouldn't any of these show up in my VHelper feed? (I'm aware I can't order items over $100 as silver, but I'm able to see gold items.)

I did it by accident. When I went to check how many items I had ordered today, I saw it was 4! To check if it was a fluke, I pretended to start ordering a 5th item and I got through to the checkout. I double checked my account and it still says silver. My eval date is 5 days away and I'm still under 90% (getting very close after writing a ton today). So I've probably shot myself in the foot for *over-ordering* so close to my eval, but I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this?

P.S. In the past if I tried to accidentally order a 4th item, it wouldn't let me.

4.2.2.5 has been fantastic in that I can wear any kind of sunglasses, even mirrored, and as long as I'm facing forward it doesn't nag me. Is that still the case in 14.3.2?

I responded to a FB Marketplace listing for a brand new sofa from a very high end brand that was being discounted from $5000 to $750. It felt real so I drove over and hour to look at it and ended up in a warehouse of Knoll, Hem, and Steelcase furniture being liquidated. Everything is brand new and priced crazy low, and everything is authentic (I checked the boxes, tags, and item numbers, plus the pieces are stamped/tagged with the brand name). They boxes have WeWork work orders on them, and the team there told me they came from a WeWork that got shut down before it even opened.

I don't *need* chairs, but they have fully upholstered armless Cesca chairs for $100 apiece, and fully upholstered Cesta chairs with arms for $125 each. Each available in the dozensI I don't think I can justify buying these for myself as I don't have a need for them, but I had a thought: Should I buy a bunch to bring home in one vanload and maybe upsell them? I live in an area where there are plenty of people around who have money and taste. There are literally dozens of the armed Cesca chairs and fully upholstered armless Cescas for sale, NIB. But would it be stupid to speculate?
