need advice

i am thinking about adding a few security cameras around the house and garage but i have no idea where to start with the right system or installation. i want something with good night vision, easy phone access and decent coverage without it looking too obvious or costing a fortune.

i have been looking at local installers and planet security came up as an option for proper cctv work. has anyone here installed cameras recently? when is the best time to do it and what models or features actually make a real difference in everyday use? any advice on placement or common mistakes to avoid would be really helpful.

I swore I would never end up in an alcoholic family after growing up with one myself. But here I am in a marriage with one, destroying myself trying to fix him

Hi there, everyone. I really need somewhere to get off my chest and rant as I feel completely drowned by my childhood demons right now. I had grown up in an alcoholic home where my dad was a very serious alcoholic, and I had spent all my childhood tiptoeing around my rage-filled childhood home while my mother struggled to control the chaos. I had sworn to myself that I would never fall into the same trap once I grew up and barely drink at all myself.

But here I am at 35 and have just found out that I have trapped myself in a similar situation, only for myself. The problem is that my husband's alcohol consumption has gotten very heavy over the past couple of years, and instead of establishing some boundaries or leaving him, my ACA mind took control.

I’m sacrificing myself, my mental well-being, my career, and my life in order to make sure that his universe does not crumble. It is gradually dawning upon me that my codependency is just as harmful as his addiction. I’m living out my mother’s life story in its entirety, and that is making me want to scream.

How can one stop having an obsession for saving someone who does not want to be saved, especially when such an urge was drilled into oneself since childhood? It is clear to me that I will need professional intervention to get out of this predicament, but I have no clue how to go about it.

so sick of greenwashing in skincare lol

Seriously just checked the label on a cream that says NATURAL in huge letters on the front. It is full of silicones, fake fragrance and phenoxyethanol. Total joke. Why can they even put a leaf on the package when it is just random chemicals inside?

Anyway my skin barrier is totally fried from trying bad products. Just red, tight and burns from literally everything. Done wasting cash on fake clean stuff. Only looking at actual certified organic brands now so at least someone checks the ingredients before they sell it.

Testing a few random things to fix my face. For basic stuff I just got some cheap oils from nourished life. Wanted actual formulas too so I tried a couple things from an aussie brand called mukti organics since they do small batches. Also got a serum from kora organics.

Switching to certified lines helped a lot. The marigold cream from mukti organics and the kora oil basically saved my face. Skin feels normal for once. Nice to find stuff that does not trigger my redness but has real botanicals like kakadu plum instead of heavy fillers.

Has anyone tried these? Any other real certified organic holy grails out there? Need to add more to my routine now that my skin is finally calming down.

I never realized how much of DFW traffic is just giant groups moving around

I was stuck on I-35W yesterday afternoon just staring at the brake lights, and I noticed how many giant passenger coaches were rolling past in the HOV lane. So I kinda saw how much of the crazy traffic around here isn't even local commuters anymore but just massive corporate events, youth sports teams, tournament kids being shuttled between Dallas, Fort Worth, and Frisco.

We always complain about the sheer volume of single-occupant cars on the road, but there’s this whole network of group logistics we don't usually think about. I actually looked into it when I got home because my company is supposed to host a huge multi-city convention in the fall.

And apparently, a massive chunk of our regional traffic management secretly relies on local providers running private charter buses like these just to keep thousands of out-of-town convention goers from renting separate vehicles and absolutely breaking the highway system entirely.

It’s kind of a weird realization how you can live in the metroplex for years and never really think about the backend infrastructure of these giant events until you're forced to sit next to them on the highway. ngl, seeing how smoothly tthey go through the mess almost makes me jealous while I'm sitting there riding my brakes.

How would you approach handling client requests for landing page deployments quickly while not spending hours writing custom Liquid?

Could anyone give some workflow tips as a fellow Shopify developer/freelancer?
These days, my clients who operate high-traffic stores frequently ask me to develop custom product landing pages quickly so that they could test their marketing strategies. My workflow includes developing custom templates and layouts in Liquid/CSS along with schema for dynamic sections.

The issue I face is efficiency. Clients need test pages quickly developed but custom responsive layouts for products with no guarantee whether they will work or not take lots of time to be written by me. This makes me spend time on other projects like apps and integrations development. And if the product fails to perform, clients are upset about wasted money.

What are the approaches to this type of request in your workflow? Do you force them to use strict native sections, generic page apps, or any tool?

EDIT: Thanks for the ideas in the DMs. Some fellas suggested that rather than burning billable hours on the structural coding for my test site, I should make it automatic. In the end, I found ai page builder and turns out this one works perfectly for this particular scenario. This acts as an automated shopify landing page generator, simply give it a raw link and it will automatically generate a structured and conversion-oriented design within seconds using clean frontend assets. It is specially built for Shopify pages so it creates clean structures native to the platform without any app overhead. It gives me the luxury to give the page generation task to the client or a VA while I take care of the hardcore engineering part.

The engineering behind temporary retail spaces and pop-ups is wild. Anyone here design for experiential marketing?

I've been looking into temporary retail structures and interactive brand spaces lately. The scale of these builds is getting out of hand. It is not just about putting up a standard trade show booth anymore. Companies want full immersive environments built into shipping containers or on the back of flatbed trailers.

From an ID perspective, the constraints must be pretty brutal. You have to build something that looks high-end but can be set up in two days and packed away just as fast. Plus, you have to factor in modular wiring, hidden HVAC, and intense foot traffic. If the floor plan is slightly off, the layout becomes a logistical nightmare for the staff on site.

I was checking out some of the companies that handle the manufacturing for this. Agencies like Pinnacle or MC2 mostly do standard corporate exhibits and displays. Then you have specialized craftsmen and fabricators like Sparks or Czarnowski that focus on custom vehicle conversions and heavy outdoor builds. Fitting a functional retail store inside a mobile trailer requires some serious spatial problem-solving.

For anyone who moved from product design to temporary spaces, what is the hardest part? Is it the short deadlines or dealing with the structural limits of the venues?

Anyone else turned a backyard fab setup into an actual business?

few years ago i was just cutting stuff in my shed on weekends. genuinely had no plan. one job led to another and now im running a small fab business out of a proper workshop and it still feels a bit surreal. the turning point was upgrading from a handheld plasma to a cnc table. game changer for accuracy and how many jobs i could actually take on. Macro Weld Pty Ltd was where i ended up landing for the machine and the aftersales support has been solid which matters way more than i expected when youre running lean. anyone else gone down this path? would love to hear how others made the jump

Should I migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify or stick with what I have?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been running my store on WooCommerce for a few years now and I’m seriously considering migrating to Shopify. The main reasons:

  • Constant maintenance and security updates are getting exhausting
  • Speed has become an issue as the catalog grew
  • I want better mobile experience and easier scaling

But I’m also worried about the cost, potential downtime, SEO hit, and whether it’s actually worth it in 2026. Those of you who made the switch from WooCommerce (or Magento/BigCommerce) - was it worth it? What were the biggest challenges and unexpected wins?

We recently read a few stores about migration and the results were impressive - as people claim they got much faster loading times, cleaner architecture, and way less technical headache afterwards. But I know every case is different. How true is this?

Would love to hear real experiences from people who went through this.

What's the best one-stop shop in Sydney for literally everything kitchen-related?

Okay so I'm setting up my new place from scratch and I'm so over going to five different stores to get everything. I just want one place where I can grab a decent knife set, some cookware, plates, glasses, and maybe even some storage containers without having to drive all over the city.

I've seen Victoria's Basement mentioned a few times, looks like they've got a massive range of stuff from cheap everyday items to proper brand names. But is it actually good or just quantity over quality?

Basically looking for the place that has the best balance of price, quality, and range. Bonus points if they have physical stores so I can actually see stuff before buying. Hit me with your recommendations.

honestly what's with european sunscreens and that weird white cast

okay so i know this is a tired topic but i'm genuinely frustrated. i've tried so many european sunscreens. like i've done the research, read the reviews, spent the money. and i keep running into the same problem. they either leave this weird white cast that makes me look like a ghost, or they pill under makeup, or they feel so greasy that i don't even want to wear them.

i know the protection is good. i know the uva filters are superior. but what's the point if i don't want to put it on my face because it looks awful?

i was visiting a friend in the UK recently and she had some sunscreen . i tried it out of curiosity. honestly it just felt different? no white cast, no pilling, just felt like a normal moisturizer. i don't know if it's the formulation or what but it made me realize how annoying the options here are.

maybe it's because european sunscreens prioritize protection over cosmetic elegance? idk. but i'm tired of looking like i'm about to star in a ghost movie every time i wear spf.

anyone else feel this way? and has anyone found a european sunscreen that feels good on the skin without sacrificing protection?

The tapering process doesn’t seem to be working out this time. It’s just too risky for me to deal with all that anxiety and shaking. What are my choices?

Hey guys. After that huge party binge I have been trying to taper medically over the last three days, but I can’t quite get the hang of it. As soon as I try to reduce the dosage, I get all that sweating, the terrible shaking, and this awful paralyzing hangxiety.

Right now I think that my physical dependence on the substance is too strong, and I am too afraid of the risks involved in withdrawal like suffering from seizures. I understand what I’m capable of handling and I know that I can’t taper in such a drastic way on my own or without supervision. I need to clean myself of the substance, but I need to do it safely.

Has any one of you had to give up at home and go to a professional facility just to make it through the first couple of days? What does the admission process entail when you’re actually shaking? All I want to do is get through this first week.

Watching old festival sets is honestly just depressing now

been binge watching old live performances on youtube (specifically that 2006 radiohead bonnaroo set, absolute masterpiece) and it kinda hurts to see the crowd energy. like you can tell it's just pure fans who paid a normal price and are entirely living in the moment

Compare that to huge shows now and the vibe is totally off. half the front rows are full of people who just paid $900 on seatgeek because bots bought out the entire general sale in 4 seconds. The ticket industry is basically just a legal cartel right now and it's completely ruining the live music experience. Im honestly praying more artists start forcing platforms to use real verification tech, like the orb standard or literally anything that actually proves a unique human is buying the ticket and not a scalping script

idk. rant over. Go watch that radiohead set if you need a reminder of what peak live music looks like. The climax of idioteque is unbelievable

why does every dentist in decatur want to sell me invisalign

i swear i just want a cleaning thats it. but every time i go somewhere new the dentist spends half the appointment talking about my bite or my alignment or how my bottom teeth are slightly crowded and wouldn't i like to see a simulation of what my smile could look like. no no i would not

moved here from south carolina a couple years ago and i don't remember dentists being like this. back home you went in, they looked at your teeth, they said you have a cavity or you don't and you left. now its like a whole production. treatment coordinators. payment plans. before and after photos.

last place i went to near the square actually had an ipad with a smile gallery. the hygienist was scrolling through pictures of other patients showing me what was possible. i just wanted to know if my filling was cracked.

anyone got a rec in decatur thats just a normal dentist? not a salesperson with a drill. i don't need a smile journey. i need someone to check if my teeth are falling out

Which app do you use to reserve courts?

Over the past several months, I've begun playing pickleball more frequently while I'm in Toronto. One thing I've observed is that because different facilities appear to employ different systems, scheduling courts can be rather annoying.

Although I've generally used facility websites, a buddy recently brought up CatchCorner, which allows you to view several venues in one location. Which app do those of you in Toronto use to reserve courts? Have you discovered one that is trustworthy for locating available times, particularly on weekends or evenings?

My back can't take economy anymore - found a way to fly business for almost the same price

I've been a digital nomad for 4 years. Probably 60+ flights. Always economy. Always cheap.

But after a 14-hour flight from Bangkok to Istanbul last month, my lower back gave up. I'm only 32.

I started looking for business class deals - just out of curiosity. Thought I'd never afford it.

Then I contacted the agent with business class deals. The information he gave me:

LAX to Lisbon on Turkish Airlines. Round trip in business class: $2,029 (save 49%).

The same flight on Turkish website: $3,978.

They say they're IATA-certified and have 95% positive Trustpilot reviews. You call them or request a quote - +1 (888) 407-5787. I called, and within 40 minutes they emailed a real PNR. Free cancellation within 24 hours.

Now I'm wondering - how many of you actually fly business class? Do you ever use third-party business class deals? Or is this too risky for nomad life?

I work remotely, so I'm flexible with dates. That probably helps.

Would love to hear if anyone else has cracked the code on affordable business class.

how do beginners stop making so much unwanted noise?

I started learning guitar recently and I’m enjoying it a lot, but one thing is driving me crazy — all the extra noise. Strings ringing when they shouldn’t, buzzing sounds, accidentally touching other strings, messy chord changes… it feels impossible to sound clean.

Sometimes I watch beginner videos and they make everything sound smooth so easily, then I try the same thing and it sounds like chaos lol.

I know practice is the answer, but I’m wondering if there are specific habits or exercises that helped you clean up your playing faster when you were new.

Is muting something that becomes natural over time, or should I already be focusing on it heavily as a beginner?

And what was the biggest thing that helped you finally sound cleaner on guitar?
