From the Socialistmusic community on Reddit: Comedy or tragedy?
I’ve been stuck on one thing for a while. I still have no idea what genre this belongs in. I’ve been calling it Chemically Restrained Noise, but that’s just something I came up with because nothing else seemed to fit. There’s punk in it, but also electronic elements, sampling, noise, and a few other influences. I’m honestly curious what other people hear. If anyone has a few minutes to listen, I’d be interested to know what genre you’d put it in.
Look what I made
This is my version of the clay ashtray I made for my mom back in third grade.
Comedy or tragedy?
Have some propaganda on me!!
We are The Drug Apostles.
The Drug Apostles is a chemically restrained noise project creating dark, intense music that blends punk, industrial, and noise for people who appreciate a little chaos.
We don’t chase trends, and we don’t fit neatly into genres. We simply make the music we want to hear.
We are heavily influenced by Crass, Rudimentary Peni, Throbbing Gristle, Sonic Youth, John Cooper Clarke, Current 93, and the book Angela’s Ashes.
Visually we’re Monty Python. Musically we’re Edgar Allan Poe.

You’re nobody until somebody loves you.
When youre an artist, no matter the medium, you usually cant count on your friends to help you get where youre going. Sharing your work costs them nothing. Theyll encourage you, and thats appreciated, but encouragement and support arent always the same thing.
More often than not, people dont start championing your work until strangers do first. Then the bandwagon rolls in. Suddenly its, Hey, I know that guy, in casual conversations.
Ive seen it a million times. Its almost always the kindness of strangers that opens doors if youre chasing success or simply trying to get your work seen.
Nobody loves you until somebody else loves you first.
Peoples perspectives
I’ve always found people’s perspectives on music fascinating. As a songwriter myself, I know what I mean when I write my own songs, so it’s always interesting to hear what other people get out of them. Sometimes they hear things I’d never even considered.
I got this single when I was 12. Listening to it then versus listening to it now is night and day. At 12, I didn’t know who Pol Pot was. All I knew was the music pumped me up and the lyrics were subversive. That was enough for me.
Now I hear the sarcasm and the layers I completely missed back then. My interpretation is that it’s calling out rich, spoiled motherfuckers and telling them to go live somewhere they’d get a real education about what a hard life actually is.
It reminds me of an argument I had years ago about anarchy—not the philosophy itself, but whether people are actually responsible enough to live by it. Seems to me there will always be some motherfuckers who’ll take advantage of everyone else. Eventually it turns into mob rule, and instead of freedom you’re governed by gangsters.
Sound familiar?
Can I get an opinion?
Hey guys, what do you think about adding stirfry vegetables to macaroni and cheese?
The Older I Get, the More This Makes Sense.
When life kicks me square in the ass and nobody’s around to give me advice, I turn to the great thinkers and philosophers throughout history.
One of my favorite quotes, often credited to Abraham Lincoln, has gotten me through some pretty rough times:
“Cusswords, just let ‘em roll.
Motherfuckin’ shit, god damn ass hoe.”
Wise words from an even wiser man.

This was the first music video I ever made. It’s 100% DIY, created with whatever I had available at the time. Looking back, I can see things I’d do differently now, but I’m still proud of it because it’s where it all started.
