Most historical building in my city

Most historical building in my city

Just a quick sketch of a very historical building in my city. This is "Gedung Merdeka" in Bandung. The original building was built in 1895, called 'Societeit Concordia', a gathering place for upper class Dutch people to chill, dance, dinner, art performance, etc you name it. The building was then renovated (more like remodeled) in 1926 by architects Van Galen & CWP Schoemaker into what we can see today. Since then it had undergone many different roles, from a Dutch elite club to a Japanese cultural center (during Japan occupation in WW2), to youth center, senate building, international conference building, and even a political detention facility during 1965s revolution.
The peak moment was in 1955 when Indonesia hosted the Asian-African Conference. Today it functions as a museum for the 1955 historic conference.
The name 'Gedung Merdeka' means 'Independence Building'

City Center, Daytime

From own photo
Taken in downtown area of Bandung (Indonesia). The building in the background is a partially abandoned building (only the ground floor is occupied for as long as I know).
Guy in the foreground carrying a plastic bag full of snacks. Street hawkers all along the pedestrian path.
The time & lighting was actually more noon than depicted, but I tend to over dramatize everything in my painting lol

Pasar Baru

Plein air watercolor at Jalan Pasar Barat, Pasar Baru Bandung. I'm attracted to the morning light shining on an old chinese shophouse building. Sitting next to an open-air street chicken butcher, I finished my painting at the same time as he's closing his stall. It's a little bit past 9:30 AM already, and he's open since 3:30 AM (while I started around 8:45)

Becak

A single becak near Pasar Baru Bandung. Finished the sketch just in time before two more becaks joined him on this corner and altered the whole composition!

ABC Street

ABC Street, Bandung, Indonesia (Yes, that's literally the name). One of the busiest (and chaotic) spot in town. Here you can find: prescription glasses, remote controls, watches, old cameras, electronics, home appliances, and some old colonial buildings peeking thru among multitude of billboards.

We call this VW Safari here

From today's sketchwalk group meetup. We were invited to a local Volkswagen Club gathering. So here it is, one of the classic.

Bale Kul-kul

An on-location sketch of a Bale Kul-kul. Bale Kul-kul is a watchtower-like structure in a Balinese Hindu Temple compound. Its located on the front-left corner of the site. Inside is a drum like instrument made from hollowed wood. Its original purpose was for auditory communication to the local villagers.
Nowadays it's used for special temple's events. Only specific persons are allowed to use it, on Temple's instructions.
It's been a challenge to sketch such a detailed architecture structure in a timed manner, knowing that every carving, every statue has special meaning and symbolism.
Thank you for listening to my Ted-talk!

Kampung scenery

A densely populated urban kampung in my home town (Bandung, Indonesia). One thing that I like of drawing complex scenes is that nobody knows (or cares) if you made mistakes.

Big tree from above

A sketch from yesterday sketchwalk. This big tree caught my attention among those dense residential developments.

Hyde St Cable Cars

I used google street view to draw this scene. I hope I got the cable cars right since I used several references.

San Francisco Cable Car

Exploring acrylic media. It's acrylic on 30x30cm canvas board. I'm still experimenting how to keep it sketchy and quick.

Painted a V60 setup in watercolor. Let me know if I did anything wrong with the setup

So, I combined a few reference photos from Unsplash into this watercolor piece and probably I paid more attention to shapes and composition rather than brewing accuracy.
Does anything immediately look off or unrealistic? (gear selection, proportion, or "oooh nobody ever use them like that!" etc)
I don't own these setup IRL, I'm more a moka pot person

(And before anyone ask: no AI is used in making this painting)

Old Cottage House

An old cottage house. Probably from early 1900. The whole area is currently undergoing construction. No idea if this building going to be renovated or demolished.

Ceremony sketches

Got plenty of sketches today in Pura Wira Loka Natha, Bandung! Today marked as the end of Galungan - Kuningan, a 10-day back to back religious Balinese Hindu festival.

We (me and a couple of fellow urban sketchers) got permitted to capture the ceremony in live sketches. Usually non-worshippers are not allowed to enter the inner temple.

The first sketch captured worshippers in front of "Pelinggih Anglurah" (a sacred shrine as a dwelling seat for gods)

The second sketch is the temple gate called "Candi Kurung" which separates the Madya (middle) area and the Utama (holiest) area. There are two dwarapalas (guardian statues) and a bhoma guarding the entrance.

Third sketch: a small shrine with offerings

Fourth sketch: a couple elderlies wearing traditional Balinese clothings waiting for the ceremony
