Why is HBOMax using so much CPU?

I've had HBOMax streaming for a couple of months (I watch on my 2023 Macbook) and just recently within the last week or two, suddenly every time I use it my computer heats up and the CPU usage is 99-101%. (Tried two different browsers).
If I click off the tab with HBO on it, the overheating stops.

Why would this be happening? And yes OS is up to date, few tabs open, did a restart etc.

Edit to ad, apparently that was a sign it wanted me to turn off all tracking and ad blocker extensions. Imagine that. Welp, canceled my subscription.

Is it weird to see a shooting star come straight down? What about two?

For some reason I was reminded of this a few days ago-happened to me and my hubby back in about 2007.
I was in central Georgia (US) and one night went out, and looked up, and I saw what looked like a shooting star come straight down. It just blinked out-no fire-ball. Hubby was in the house (windows open) so I said "whoa that was weird!" and he came out and looked up and he too saw one came straight down.

Is that rare?

For those of a certain era or musical proclivity: Molly Hatchet in Ridgeway

Did y'all know Molly Hatchet will be playing the Gallatin county Popcorn Days in Sept?

For those that aren't familiar with them tell your parents! And they're good old Southern Rock circa the late 70's and 80's.
Edit to add, they're scheduled 9:15 to 10:45, and it's FREE! Somewhere in Ridgeway (north east of Harrisburg) but it's a tiny town so shouldn't be hard to miss!

Saline County Laws? Distance?

I'm trying to find laws for my county but they don't have much on line.
Saline county in this case. (I've edited this and taken out arial photos bc my first post was removed by reddit filters, so I'm avoiding certain words because ???)

Does anyone know if they have particular laws here (outside of a town, so county) or does it default to the state law?
I saw in another post that someone said state law is no closer than 100 yards from an occupied dwelling, but all I could find was something for a range.

Don't know if it's this area is home rule, or what the area is zoned as...

The reason I'm asking...We are the kind of people that only fire rounds when we have to. We lived out west and had to dispatch a lot of rattlesnakes, etc.
We've lived in this area for two years and our neighbor has never practiced but a family member was visiting today and so they were in the woods making a lot of noise. Some of them had orange shirts on, but I don't know if they were using a dense target or not. So I don't know their level of safety knowledge.

My concern is that this was very close to our house (150 ft-ish). Assuming they were pointing straight north, it's less than 600 yards to a road.

Is that too close? I reaaaaallly don't want to push this, but I'm a by the book and safety first kind of person. Not that anyone would even come out, but I'd really like to know the law here. No one else around here practices on their land. The neighbor is otherwise a very quiet and chill guy.

The neighbor did tell me once that he does occasionally "hunt" in his woods, which is about 2.5 acres total.
Seems kinda small.

Record Stores and Flea Markets

I moved here a few years ago and have lived in several other parts of the country. Do y'all not have "Flea Markets" around here?
Also, besides Evansville IN and Carbondale, where are some good USED record stores? (Don't say Walmart).

Brave History, how to find something?

I use Brave on a Macbook and I'm on the internet a lot.
Today I needed to find something from a week ago, and went to Full History and there's no dates to choose from like there is in Firefox. Searching the date brought up nothing (it had to have the date words in the title)...I know it's there but how do I avoid scrolling for HOURS to find something?
That's almost a deal breaker it's so bad.
Am I missing something?

All Black Stereo Inputs?

(Edited see below)
I'm on a tight budget and found a good deal on an old Sears Turntable and 8-Track and some speakers. The lady insisted these speakers came with it.
The speaker wires (thin gauge) have clearly been cut (they're pretty short) so my husband is splicing some banana plugs on them. The banana plug wires are thicker, so that's my first question-will that be OK?

But the weird part is all of the input jacks are black. (To the right of the serial number).
I'm old LOL, and I used to be the one that would hook up the entire fancy setup when we moved, but there was always red and black...
So I don't know or don't remember what to do in this case. I know there's positive and negative involved (new banana plugs have white with white stripe and red with no stripe).....
It's probably simple but I'm flummoxed and yes I searched but couldn't really find an answer.

This makes me really wish Radio Shack was still a thing!

edit: OK we thought to get out a multimeter and check for positive and negative. Turns out on the left side the Back is red (positive) and on the right side the Front is red (positive). So that's weird...
And hubby said with the stereo ON those jacks were putting out 1 volt. That's crappy isn't it?

Final Edit: WE HAVE MUSIC!!
We hooked up one speaker, heard static on FM, tried to dial it and turns out the tuner knob is broken. BUT! My hubby REMEMBERED that out of my vast old collection, I have TWO albums left! They were in the closet!!
So to hint at how old I am, the album playing currently is the soundtrack to Billy Jack!!
Thank you everyone!

Do you have a favorite fiber festival?

Hi knitters!
I'm doing some research about potentially teaching at events, and I'm learning that there are many different KINDS of fiber festivals.
Do any of you know of any events that are very financially and otherwise accessible, and more collective or affinity circle type things?? I ask because many of the festivals I'm seeing feel corporate-organized or overly huge and the classes can get very pricey, or they have entrance fees, etc. I am learning more and more how large corporations are taking over small town events!

My goal is to find a few events near me and not only teach but also help organize and make sure that everyone feels welcome... Especially Millennials & GenZ'ers... Or create my own!
I feel like we kind of need an infusion...a new, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist model for knitting gatherings!

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Andiroo likes it!

Seriously, Bad Company is stealing the show. I think it might be the best Ren vocals bit on the album, and 2nd best guitar bit because Lunatic Lullaby is on fire!

OK Here's my Review!

Ren said he wanted to hear our thoughts on the Inpatient album. I had ALL DAY in the car so I listened to the entire thing several times.

Best Overall Songs:

  1. Down the Road 🔥, Neurodivergent 🎉 (Tie!)
  2. Instigator
  3. Asylum

My Favorites: Neurodivergent and Lunatic Lullaby (also the above).

Like it more now than when I first heard it: Tarantula (love that intro)

Sleeper hit buried in the middle: Bad Company (Ren you achieved Smokey Robinson smooth!)

Fun homage to OLD school music: Madhouse

Fav one-liner: "But after all the pills that they got me, It turned me to a zombie, So, welcome to the dawn of the de-eh-ead"

Stabbed me in the heart/sad: Surprisingly there were several but Lunatic Lullaby got me hard! That’s also Ren’s “Jimi Hendrix moment”!

Songs I really like but really DON’T like the lyrics: Smoking Gun and Silence.

Need turntable to start-my goodness it's been a really long time

I'm "had a record collection in the 1980's old" but over the years stereos went to exes, and the record collection was mouldering in storage so went to a collector friend. Everything I have now is digital.
I have a computer, a TV and a set of nice computer speakers (with a subwoofer!) that are hooked to the TV so I can plug the computer into the tv and use the speakers for computer songs... That's all I've got.

The speakers will work for now with anything I get (pretty sure), and I took a peek on Amazon but am to understand that the Audio-Technica AT-LP60 is crap...
Also, I saw that it had bluetooth capability and I swear something in my brain short circuited, LOL.

Having looked through this sub a bit, I'm DEFINITELY going to be on the lookout at Goodwills, etc. (although I am an hour from one) but barring that:

A: If I wanted to get a turn table with bluetooth, is that "cheating" and will that even work if I want to go completely old-school with everything else?

B: Does anyone have a good suggestion for a cheap but decent turntable? My budget is zero but I want to know what to even consider....I'm sure I could find a few hundred bucks...
And if I find a turntable, do I also need a receiver? It's been so long I literally don't remember but it seems there was something in between component and speakers that organized everything.

I just can't resist the pull of the old vinyl anymore!

Settle an argument: Does AC take enough humidity out of the air?

Short back story, we live in a 100-year-old house with ~10 foot ceilings, ceiling fans, and window/box air conditioners in three rooms.
We live in the Midwest and it's been very rainy lately, raining daily, current mid-day humidity 86%.
We open the windows at night, and doors in the early morning to let the cool into the house, which also raises the humidity.
I have already found a few things that were sitting out in the living room covered in mold, and one in a closet.

One of us says running the AC's will dehumidify the spaces. I try to keep the rooms at 74-76*F to lower electricity costs, so I think they're not running enough to lower the humidity and every time the door is opened (many times a day) that lets in humidity.
I say we need our dehumidifiers running, which yes, heat the space, but I don't want anything else going moldy.

Suggestions?

More on the Jay Christopher King allegations: Kelly finally posted

Trigger Warning, it does get deep in the weeds but not specific.

Please respect that this is coming from someone who has had a very bad experience with Jay and isn't even really sure she understands it yet. She said she wasn't ready but she put this out in case others have gone through the same thing.
Apparently Jay is now divorced and these issues (Kelly is not the only one) were the reason.

Rude comments demanding details will be reported and blocked.

The beginning portions of this article/video are well researched, and the implications in the broader community are really mind-blowing. Kelly is one hell of a writer!!
