Clothing sizes in Italian?

What are the clothing sizes in Italian? I am referring to the Italian words for small, medium etc.

I looked it up but couldn’t find a straight or consistent answer.

Family heirloom given to me

A very old and very sentimental heirloom was passed down to me as I hit a major milestone. I dont have an urgent use for it but under the circumstances it was given I want to use it as much as possible. It has been sitting on my desk for almost 3 months now without use. It’s about 2inches by 2inches and fairly shallow. Besides vitamins, pills, earrings, rings and substances, what could I put in here? How could I use it?

Thoughts about the name Ziggy…

Bowie has been a huge influence on my life and Id like to pay homage to him. I like this unique, “retro”name for my soon to be youngest. Thoughts? what would be a good middle name?

Going to Italy for a month….

hello all! I will be spending a month in Italy towards the end of the year and I would like to be able to communicate (even basically) with locals. I would like the ability to understand where restrooms are, ordering food, casual things like that. I have quite a bit of time before I leave so I’d like to start now. Where should I start? What should I expect? thank you!

Men, is this normal behavior?

I have liked a guy a little older than me for a little over a year and we’re good friends, as are our families. We’re in our VERY late teens/early 20s fyi.

I don’t see him often but when I do he seems to be very intentional and consistent with how he treats me. Always talking to me, maintains consistent and almost over the top eye contact, a little flirty, asks questions, positions himself in my space and (when appropriate) lets himself in on my convos. A friend saw us interact and said if she didn’t know better she’d think he was creepy for how much he looks at me. The only weird thing is that his cousin (my best friend) insists he’s not interested but she also isn’t exactly rooting for us.

Everything seems to check out that he’s interested and attracted, I think I’ve given him enough at this point to get the hint but I GUESS NOT BECAUSE HE NEVER TEXTS ME FIRST. Ive opened the door to talking on iMessages and insta. I’m not clingy, I don’t double text and we barely talk. when we do it’s always me initiating. he’s not dry when he responds, he seems genuine and interested but he won’t keep the convo going.

I hear guys WILL text you when they’re interested and you’d think he’d want to even more considering we live six hours apart and see each other four times a year (typically for a week or weekend at a time) at best. I DONT GET IT HELPPPP.

Happy birthday Maria! (Appreciation post)

Happy 127th birthday Maria!

Born June 26th, 1899 she was the beloved third daughter to Alix and Nicky II. Kind, loving, patient and angelic, she was welcoming and warm to all those around her. Companion to her younger sister Anasastia who always seemed to get the two of them into mischief, Maria was fun loving and charming. Often described as pure and unearthly she had large, beautiful blue eyes called “Mashkas saucers”, rosy cheeks and rich brown hair. She was genuine and took great interest of the lives of nurses, ladies in waiting and soldiers around her. She had many crushes and was a very romantic girl who dreamed of a family of her own. Now, some words from those who knew her in life.

“Maria was born good, with the very smallest trace of original sin as possible” - Margaret Eager

“Maria was like Olga in coloring and features. But on all the more vivid scale. She had the same charming smile. The same shape face” - Baroness Sophie Buxhoeveden

Her reputation for goodness was such that it was rather surprising when Maria stole some biscuits at teatime, Eager and the Empress thought she should be sent to bed, but the Emperor disagreed, saying that he “…was always afraid of the wings growing. I am glad to see she is only a human child” (Eager).

“ Maria was tall, healthy, with sable eyebrows and a bright blush on her open Russian face; she was especially lovely to a Russian heart… her eyes illuminate her entire face with a unique, radiant luster; they sometimes seem black, as long eyelashes throw shadows over the bright blush of her soft cheeks. She is merry and alive, but she has not yet awakened completely to life; probably concealed in her are the immense forces of a real Russian woman.” - S.F. Ofrosimofova

While three of her siblings were seriously ill, the hardy Maria and Anastasia had thus far remained healthy, but the burdens Maria carried were enormously taxing: “Alexandra received Viktor Zborovsky, one of the most trusted officers of the Escort guarding the palace… As Zborovsky was leaving Maria stopped him and they ended up chatting for an hour. He was deeply moved by the great change in her during recent days. ‘Nothing remained of the former young girl,’ he told his colleagues later; in front of him stood ‘a serious sensible woman, who was responding in a deep and thoughtful way to what was going on.’ (Rappaport, Helen. Four Sisters 291).

Happy birthday Mashka!

Anastasia Nikolaevna birthday appreciation post

Happy 125th birthday to the spirited, witty, vivacious and fun loving Anastasia! Born June 18th, 1901 she was a talented actress, painter and schemer of mischief. Her mother, Alix, described her as “life itself” and said she lit up any room she entered, cherishing her gaiety. ”Nastasya”, creative and loyal, kept her family’s spirits up during dark times and loved her younger brother dearly. Here are words from those who knew her. (Regrettably I was unable to find more)

” Extremely idle though with the idleness of a gifted child” - Pierre Gillard

“Her features were regular and finely cut. she had fair hair, fine eyes, with impish laughter in their depths.“ Sophie Buchoeveden

“A very charming devil! she was mischievous and, I think, rarely tired. she was lively and fond of preforming comic mimes with dogs as though they were preforming in a circus”. - unknown imperial guard

“very friendly and full of fun” - Alexander Strekotin

Happy birthday Shvybzik!

Would Malama and Tatiana have gotten married?

Say neither die tragically young and the Russian Empire is not overthrown. How likely would it have been for the two to get married?

As far as I’ve read we have no evidence of their correspondence but we do know that the family was quite fond of the two of them as a match.

Additionally, I heard a story about Alexey shouting that “Tatiana loves Malama” at a tea table and the two becoming very embarrassed. Does anyone know if this is true?

OTMAA commenting on their siblings?

Do we have any writings or reports of the siblings commenting on each others character? I feel we hear the least about them from them.

I feel like 6 different types

Apparently I’m INFJ but when I read about other types (usually all i types) I just go “huh. that sounds like me” and proceed to question my mbti for awhile. It’s not that deep ofc and everyone has the potential/ability to fit into multiple types but as I’ve moved past alot of mental health issues and I’ve seen my “true personality“ emerge, I can’t seem to fit into anything properly. not that it matters that much ofc.

anyone else feel this way?

Tatiana Romanova birthday appreciation post

"1897, (May 29 Old Style) June 11th (New Style). The second bright, happy day in our family life: at 10:40 a.m., the Lord blessed us with a daughter, Tatiana," - Nicholas II

Description of the Imperial Luncheon on the Occasion of the Birthday of Grand Duchess Tatiana Nickolaevna which took place in the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoe Selo on May 29, 1905.

At 10 o'clock in the morning together with coffee they brought to Her Majesty's Sitting Room a tiered cake (baumkuhen) and a sweet pie on the occasion of Tatiana Nickolaevna's birthday.

Happy 129th birthday to the second daughter of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodrovna, Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna! Caring, dutiful, faithful and loving, Tatiana was surely a blessing to those around her.

Words of love from those who knew her:

“Tatiana, as always, helps everyone, everywhere,” - Empress Alexandra

**“**Tatiana was as religious as Olga, but was more patient at long orthodox services; she also loved to read books of spiritual content. While Olga was sometimes a bit brisk in her conversation with strangers, Tatiana tended to be more shy at first.”  - Pierre Gilliard

“Grand Duchess Tatiana was as charming as her older sister, but in her own particular way. She was often perceived as haughty, but I do not know anyone who was less prideful. Her shyness and reticence was often mistaken for arrogance, but as soon as you got to know her better and gain her trust, all her restraint disappeared and the genuine Tatiana emerged. She had a poetic nature and yearned for true friendship”. - Lili Dehn

Does the pomp of orthodoxy ever distract from Jesus?

I am an inquirer so forgive me if the question sounds pointed. I’ve been seeing all these beautiful churches and garments worn by priests and patriarchs. While I do believe that we should be making beautiful things for God like churches, why do priest/patriarchs (im not too sure on the terminology) do the same? Are leaders of the flock not called to be humble? Surely they deserve our respect but they aren’t better than the rest of us. Why the pomp? I find it beautiful but I’m just wondering

What type of lilac bush?

This lilac has been growing in my yard and is around 7 ft tall by 7 ft wide. It has roughly another week until it reaches full bloom but does anyone know the particular species? I’m looking to make something out of it but I don’t want to accidentally poison myself.

Question about baptism into the Orthodox Church

Hello all! I am currently Protestant but I’m considering joining the Orthodox Church for a myriad of reasons.

My biggest hold up is the baptism policy. I was baptized as a baby in the Lutheran church but as a grew up it held no relevance to me and so I was “baptized again” a year ago.

I am grateful to God that I was able to be baptized not just in a beautiful and meaningful place by someone Godly but also be brought into His kingdom and have the assurance of my salvation in Him!

Since my baptism I have improved my spiritual life and habits and grown closer to God. The past few months I’ve been increasingly drawn to the Orthodox church but I don’t want to be baptized again under the label that my baptism last year was inadequate. I’m hoping to speak to an orthodox priest on the matter soon. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts, advice etc.

Thank you!

P.S.

please avoid the realm of infant baptism, that is not a topic I would like to discuss here.

Greek song suggestions?

Hello all! I’m an English speaker and VERY interested in learning Greek. As of right now I know some very basic things and have a pretty good hand at most pronunciation. I would like to reach a point of fluency but unfortunately I am very busy. Regardless, I’m trying to work the Greek language into my day to day routines.

I listen to a lot of music from many different languages and I’m looking for some Greek music suggestions. Anything really to help get it into rotation. Obviously this won’t be my only way of learning Greek but it’s a start. thank you!

THEY ALWAYS LOOK LIKE MEEEE

Every time I like a guy they end up talking to or dating a girl who looks like me. Same complexation, same hair color and texture, same eye color etc.

Obviously it stings and I’m really sick of it happening to me. Well, right now I’m away for a weekend at a wedding where there is a guy who I like. I’ve known him for awhile, ive liked him for less and less than a year ago he was showing definite interest in me.

I can be hesitant when it comes to giving attention to a guy I like so I havnt been THE most engaging and maybe that’s why it seemed he lost interest. Anyways, last night during a rehearsal dinner I turned around and he was talking and smiling with a girl WHO LOOKS JUST LIKE ME. WHY????

Im so tired of this happening and it makes me feel like such garbage. He‘s said he’s into a certain type so why is he going for then opposite? It just hurts a lot and the wedding is today and I want to enjoy myself but masking the disappointment and pain really sucks. This is the third time this has happened to me.

Any advice? I could use it
