What are some cool things to play when you’re shopping for a bass in store?

I plan to at some point buy some more basses in the future and I normally like to go In store, like guitar center or wherever but I always feel nervous when I have to try them out cause they watch and then I don’t know what to play and I feel stupid. Anything anyone has Iike a got to? Also side track I don’t plan on like doing many performances but I’d like a good bit maybe cheap amp for home practice if anyone has any recs, also best slap video to start?? Sorry lol but yeah

Is searing pain, numbness, and a pinched nerve normal for a beginner while practicing?

Hey guys.

This might be a bit of a silly question. After my 15 minute practice session, I'm fully numb in my right arm and it feels like it's being branded by a hot iron at the same time. I went to the doctor and they said I also have a pinched nerve in my neck.

Is this normal fatigue for someone just starting out? People in the bass subs told me muscle fatigue is normal so I might be over thinking it. I do have a very aggressive attack (I'm a big Steve Harris fan), but I'm sure he's definitely been through similar haha. I think my technique needs a bit of work but overall I think I'm making good progress.

The hospital visit was probably overkill too. Thoughts?

Am I supposed to be sucking this much ass?

I know I should be practicing instead of looking for affirmation but man, playing bass is HARD. I got my first entry-level Ibanez 5-stringer a little more than a week ago, and I know that's a ridiculously short time, but I'm feeling very discouraged ever since trying string-crossing. I have dyspraxia so naturally doing "fingery" things isn't my forte, but I thought I could work around it. These days though, I'm not sure. I keep messing up really simple stuff, it's like my hands just go "fuck you and this fiddly thing". Did anyone else have as much difficulty early on? Am I overthinking it or should I try some focused exercises or something? On a side note y'all rock, this shit is way harder than it looks on video.

Does playing the song the whole way through matter?

Hello, I have been playing bass for nearly 3 years. I can play a few songs and by that I mean: I played the whole song all the way through note for note.

I only say I have learnt a song if I have played it that way.

However this battle for perfection is often pretty tiring.

Is this the best way to learn bass? Is it better for learning if I learn more songs and don't play them perfectly note for note? or is it better to strive to play the entire song perfectly? if you get what I mean.

Whats the best way too approach learning songs because when I jam no one cares about if I played everything perfectly.

Is it necessary to lube your nuts?

I was talking to the guitarist in my new band about setups and he mentioned he lubes his nuts with every string change to prevent friction. He recommended it for bass as well but I've never heard of anyone doing this for bass.

I had to look it up but for those that are not familiar,

"When a guitar string is tuned, bent, or used with a tremolo arm, it has a tendency to catch or bind on the nut slots and bridge saddles. This binding creates a "pinging" sound and causes the string to go out of tune. Lube coats these friction points, allowing the string to glide effortlessly back into its proper pitch."

What is your bathroom bass?

I'm sure most of you have come to the same conclusion that I have and that is sitting on the John just scrolling is wasted time you could be slapping out some bangers, so what do you use for your toilet bass? I've got a cheap squier, it does the job but it's nothing special.

Never happened to me before and I'm worried I may have done irreversible damage to my playing
