Working on bass drum technique.
Not so easy working in double bass pedal when you have relied heavily on a single bass pedal for so long.

After playing a Rickenbacker for almost a decade I have finally purchased a new bass. It came about when I had to rent something a bass for a gig and realized how much more comfortable other basses are.
(EDIT): I didn’t just keep it as-is straight from Amazon, I’ve spent a decent bit of time setting it up and have some prior knowledge how to from setting up my electric guitars. I’ve swapped the tuners, bridge, tried different gauge strings from different brands, tested on different amps etc
This 5-string Glarry bass is a piece of shit, sounds and plays like complete garbage. Had it for about 3 months now and I absolutely hate it. Not sure what I expected with a $70 5-string from Amazon haha, I would feel wrong even giving this away for free to someone
The finish is surprisingly nice though and it will make for a nice decoration on my wall, the only other thing it’d be good for is a paperweight. I’m gonna just buy a decent used one like my dumb self should have in the first place 🤦♂️
Hi I started playing bass 3 days ago and heard of this John Johnson guy that invented punk music, did it come from his bass? Will I get similar abilities if I get it?
Its an awesome bass but whenever I post it, lots of people have opinions. This is the Big Johnson Bass. The loudest acoustic bass on the market.
Hi!
I find I have a favourite Neck and I’ve just got a great body yesterday (the Bass’ not mine!) & every type of pickup possible lying around in drawers so I have all the things in place to make a perfectly good precision BUT apart from a traditional classic sounding middle pick up shall I put a Neck in and maybe a bridge one as well?
Am I just being spoiled?!
How many people have three pickups in a BASS and how many of you have two and feel that that’s not enough..?
Thanks in advance for your insights!
Hello! Seasoned electrician here.
First off, I'm not an idiot, I know touching the wires and the output jack is potentially lethal while the bass is plugged in. I worked on power lines in downtown Memphis and know what to touch and what not to touch - However, pickups are interesting new contraptions to me. I know they exert a strong magnetic field which has enough reach to pull stainless steel oscillation. (Skin is obviously not as strong as steel haha).
I had electroconvulsive therapy done to me last year (got put in a strait-jacket after being arrested for setting a power line on fire) which was pretty strong, but it definitely isn't strong enough to magnetize steel. It put me in a seizure state on anesthesia so I'm a bit worried about the pickups and how they could affect me.
Single coil jazz bass pickups seem a bit overkill, so would a P Bass pickup be safer? Do humbuckers subsidize the potential electric shock? I know most of you know absolutely nothing about electricity or physics because you probably didn't graduate high school, but I'm assuming someone did a little bit of research here.
Not sure if I should put 5% of my practice time into learning double thumb or if it's a higher percentage of the instrument? I use the 70% rule for plucking and 10% for slap
I broke my nut while trying to replace my strings.. This never happened to me before with guitar. I was trying to get the low B under the string tree, and the nut just shattered.
Is there some kind of trick with basses I don't know about??
Trip is a local for me (Lake Charles, Louisiana) and I've met him and chatted while looking for daisy chains (he eventually got me to see that I was looking for an ISO brick cuz I was running a voltage dependant setup, telling me "to get the right things you have to ask the right questions" or something of the sort).
He's a seriously eccentric dude and it seems he just spends all his time noodling at the music store he works at and his playing is off the chain!
Maybe I'm easily impressed but you for sure don't see playing like this from just anybody just anywhere... Thoughts?
I've been following High Fade for a while. First came across them for their busking vids. They are constantly touring so I make sure to always catch them when they roll through. Nice dudes and great hang. They released a new album recently. Check it out. Ollie is also playing a pink Sandberg Bass.
I posted a pic under “first bass” and lots of questions came up about the wrapped pick guard. So here is how:
This is my second version. where I also wrapped the knob boomerang plate and sudo-connected it to the pick guard to kind of follow the 5 string pick guard outline.
All peices are cut and then double stick tape top of front and back of edges where the fabric has relief cuts and folded over enough to have the screw pinch thru two layers of fabric to hold it in place.
You can also cut a hole for pickups and wrap the pick guard there but I did not so the fabric stretches over the pickup and does not alter the sound.
The fabric between both plates is connected to the chunk on the knob side and is held in place by screws from the pick guard.
Cheers!
Spotted this car today. I was excited to see a fellow 5-stringer and then immediately disappointed in their choice of 5th string.
got this for free from my uncle and had nothing to do better than learn bass. I did a little google searching abt maintenance and shit and just noticed this.
i really dont care that much because I’m just learning for fun, but I also wonder if this will affect anything significantly?
The app says that the original bassist used three fingers but my middle and ring finger wire themsekves togwther and move ate the same time
