Perfettamente funzionante

The morning routine

Just wanted to capture a moment; this could be any morning, though it happens to have been this morning. I usually get out of bed first and I head down to the kitchen. Then my spouse gets up when the coffee and muesli are ready.

Amazing what a new grinder can do

Fresh beans roasted one week ago and this grinder that I think I’ve dialed in pretty well.

Another thrift find!

So I joined the club by accident while thrifting recently. Best I can tell this is a circa 1979ish Professional. It is missing the grate for the drip tray but otherwise seems to be relatively intact? I am of course researching other similar posts on this sub, but would love any tips to get this beauty up and running.

I am particularly interested in cleaning tips, and info regarding power/wiring and the boiler? I have seen that some folks replace/modify the heating element, is that required/recommended? Also I am located in Canada, do I need to purchase a voltage adapter to operate the machine here?

Thanks so much for reading, I can't wait to (hopefully!) start pulling shots soon.

Restoration process. Rusty screws broke. What can I do now?

I recently got a vintage Pavoni and decided to clean it up and restore it. The machine obviously needed it. As I came to remove the head both screws snapped. As you can see from the photo there was a lot of rust built up around the screws. What can I do now to remove the head and continue maintenance?

Possible? pre-1978 vintage La Pavoni!

Boiler was crufty with copper patina : cleaned with white vinegar/water soak
group head leaks
lever seems a bit droopy when portafilter is loaded
PNW area for supplies/and or I could take it up to Portland for resto.

Not my daily driver - purchased for my Airstream
Enhancements or upgrade info welcome

LaPavoni EXP1

Just completed my latest LaPavoni upgrade. Over the last 10-years, my LP has seen a number of upgrades, the bulk procured from our friends at Coffee Sensor.

However there remained one major issue with my machine that needed to be addressed .... and that's the low group head.

A common complaint amongst LaPavoni enthusiasts, however I'm unaware of anyone addressing this limitation.

Today I present to you my LaPavoni EXP1. A new base structure that effectively raises the group head 25mm, and increases stability.

Early tests are very promising.

Mini Cellini thermostathe issues?

La Pavoni Mini Cellini – espresso temperature seems too low
Hi everyone,
I have a La Pavoni Mini Cellini and I’m having some issues with my espresso shots. They often seem to come out not hot enough, even though I make sure everything is properly preheated.
For example, today I used a fully preheated cup, which I preheated with boiling water. I then ran a full cup of water directly from the machine into it. The water measured only 75°C (167°F) in the cup.
That seems quite low to me, but I’m not sure what temperature I should actually expect from this machine, especially when measuring in the cup rather than directly at the group head.
Is 75°C / 167°F normal for the Mini Cellini, or does this suggest that something might be wrong with the machine or my temperature-management technique?
Any advice from other Mini Cellini owners would be appreciated!

Help with the operation of the Pavoni 1976

Hi everyone, I found a Pavoni Europiccola, I think it was made in 1976.
I found the manual for its operation.
The first thing I did was check that it was working, and when I put water in the boiler, it only heats up when the button is set to max, but it doesn't seem to work when set to min.
Could it be the heating element?
How can I fix it? A service center told me that the electrical wiring no longer complies with current regulations, and they won't fix it.

🍊Europiccola

Restored this piece a year ago. Decided to go for a slightly different color for the base but still something that fits the bygone era this belongs to (~1976). Had to get a new element and wiring but I’m glad I did because now it’s good for another 50 years. It’s stationed beside my trusty Cafelat Robot. Once you really understand the machine and its workflow, the cup quality really hits another level.

New addition - la diamantina

Love seeing all the old machines being restored. I have nowhere near the patience or the aptitude to undertake anything like that but am happy that many of you do. In the meantime I recently replaced my 15yo ECM machine with this gorgeous piece of art.

Boiler not heating help

Just got this late pre mil (2000) and while the lights are turning on, the boiler isn't heating up. Any advice would be appreciated.

EDIT: issue has been solved, boiler element is unfortunately dead.

Anyone here made the jump from a Europiccola to a Olympia Cremina? Worth the extreme price difference?

Looking at a few local listings and sold eBay listings, they go for $2000 or more in good working condition.

Anyone made the upgrade and actually feel it's worth 4-6x the price of a good vintage Europiccola? With some mods, I'm still under $500 total for my 80s machine that pulls fantastic shots.

At $2000+, it seems like something you would only buy if you desperately wanted one for the sake of having one, right? There isn't really a huge mechanical difference between the two, right? The only thing I really see people talking about is temp stability (isolator largely solves this) and build quality (there's a whole lot of LPs that are 50-60 years old still cranking shots daily with no issue other than replaceable gaskets).

It's way out of my price range, but seeing some local listings pop up with eye watering prices got me interested in figuring out the real reason for the massive price difference, even in machines of the same age/wear. It's pretty clear they must have produced far fewer of these than Pavoni have, but the price gap indicates something much bigger at play than just scarcity.

People that actually made the upgrade, do you feel it was really worth the $? Or it it more of a owning a Rolex kind of deal, you just wanted it for the prestige/emotional quality?

Switch wires getting too hot

Hi there, I keep having this issue with my Professional pre-mill. A few months ago I stopped receiving power to the switch on my machine. I opened the base and saw the same image as above. I chalked it up to moisture possibly getting inside and a corroded terminal. So I replaced the switch and the burnt wire which fixed it up until today where the same thing happened. I'm wondering if anyone could share some insight as at this point I don't think it's a bad connection as the wire is new. Any help would be much appreciated!

Help Dialing in [La Pavoni mini x]

Hi

Just bought a new machine - la pavoni mini x. This machine doesn’t have a group head gauge. I have performed a static pressure test with a blind filter and getting 12bars of pump pressure on the machine gauge. What would the brew pressure be at the coffee puck? If the machine is calibrated to have 9bars at the group head / coffee puck can i assume i should be grinding to achieve a reading of 12bars on the machine pump gauge?

Some other observations:
When grinding my dark roast coffee 18g and extracting approx 36g, I need to grind quite fine to achieve approximately 24-25 extraction, however at this speed the pump pressure gauge always reads 12bars.

Any hints on how to get 25-30 secs and achieve the brew pressure of 9bars?

Another point the basket is rated to 16g (according to the manual) but can easily accommodate 18g. Should i be reverting to the recommended dose of 16g?

Cheers
