[homemade] garlic studded Rib Eye medium temp

Okay I am getting good. Nailed a perfect medium. Paired them with spicy mini white potatoes, butter sautéed mushrooms and corn on the cob. These steaks were heavily marbled so I had to move them off the grill into the pan because although my indoor grill has great control, once that much fat starts dripping it flames up and chars the steak beyond what I like. The garlic is studded into the side and these were an actually studded in store by Wegmans. I do it myself normally but these looked too good to pass up.

[i ate] Bavarian style pretzels with horseradish and cheddar geese sauce.

This is an appetizer and so good. The horseradish is a bit too hot for my taste, but the cheese is perfect.

[homemade] French cut pork chop with cherry pepper, onion, some other veggies and potato

I served it with a Cabernet. Normally would have chosen a crisp white such as a dab blanc or a rose, but the pepper and spice of this one needed the red balance. It was delicious. No hate on the sloppy plate, it was just a casual family dinner. Ha

Every once in a while you get exactly what you pay for. This is not always a good thing, sometimes not a bad thing- let me explain. This is a $25 bottle of wine. It is a mixed vintage Cabernet from Napa. It got pretty good reviews and it was suggested by my wine guy (who I trust) as a great value and so I bought a case. I have a 1300 bottle wine room which is now at about 90% full and of that there’s about 300 bottles which I have purchased, tried and don’t like. Those are my “bring to party” bottles.

This bottle is different. It is cherry and spice up front. Blackberry and some chocolate and then a very enjoyable balanced finish which is inviting to take another sip. Its color is deep garnet and the nose its earthy and leather but again fair and balanced.

I’d say go for a bottle if you can or get a few. It’s not a reach and something you’ll drink starting with a pasta or pizza and finish watching your TV shows. Let it breathe at least 20 mins and serve at the room temp. It opens after normalizing.

Ps- I’m a recent level 2 WSET and am going to write more of these as I can. The /food people are too mean for my taste. LOL
