Can I temporarily stop sharing my location with somebody in Find My?

I have Find My turned on for a few select family and on the whole I’m quite happy with this.

However, is there a way to temporarily stop sharing your location with certain specific contacts? I’m talking for maybe an hour or two at will without them being aware?

I know how to turn off sharing my location with everybody, and I can see the ‘stop sharing location’ option when I tap on an individual person, but it seems it might remove them from my list altogether if I do that, or at the very least it would notify them when I restart location sharing with them.

Birds have decimated my grapes…

Hi guys,
We’ve just come back from a weekend away and birds have decimated my grapes which were coming along beautifully.
I don’t think it’s coincidence that the timing coincides with the loss of our cat who used to patrol the garden!

In the absence of a feline deterrent, how can I protect my remaining bunches of grapes whilst allowing them to grow?!

How do I stop my iPhone from automatically playing music every time connects to my car?

This is starting to really hack me off.

Every time I get in my car or my wife’s, and my phone connects to the car’s Bluetooth, it immediately starts playing the last song or podcast I was listening to, even if it was a few days ago and regardless of whether iTunes is actually open or not.

It’s incredibly annoying as for some reason it always seems to be excessively loud too.

I’m sure this is a simple way to stop this, but can somebody please tell me how?

Thanks!

24h Service Stops on A483/A40 through heart of Wales

Hi guys, I’m not a trucker but Reddit suggested this sub might be a good place to find an answer and to be honest… it makes sense! So hope you don’t mind me asking.

In a few weeks, I’m due to do a drive from the north of England down to South Wales, preferably going via Chester, then following the A483 south through the likes of Wrexham, Oswestry, New Town then on the A40 towards Llandeilo.

It’s been about five years since I drove that route, and last time we did it there were no amenities south of Oswestry. However, there has been a lot of work done around New Town, so I was just wondering, does anyone know if there any 24 hour service stations, or services that are open late in the evening - til 10pm, especially New Town and further south, that have decent toilets?

Thanks in advance!

As mentioned on another thread, we’re travelling to South Wales soon.

The quickest route for us would be via Chester, following the A483 then A40 through the likes of Wrexham, Oswell Street, New Town etc.

Good Soft Plays near Ammanford?

Hi,

I’m not local to South Wales, but will be visiting family near Ammanford soon.

We have two kids under the age of 5. I’m really hoping the weather will be good so we can take advantage of the parks, walks, beaches etc

But on the off chance that it’s just raining constantly, the kids will need an opportunity to let off some steam.

I was wondering if there’s any good Soft Play areas nearby which are of course fun for the kids, but also offer good facilities for the grown ups watching on - a good view of the play area, half decent coffee, maybe some cake/snacks available, seating that’s not just a filthy white garden chair like one place near me!

Maybe a garden centre or even a Hungry Horse?

Would be happy to drive maybe up to half an hour if that helps!

Thanks in advance!

Going to my first Piece Hall gig, what do I need to know?

I’ve been to the Piece Hall for normal events such as Xmas markets a few times but never been to a gig - but that’s about to change!

What do I need to know? I’m planning on arriving in Halifax by train around 45 mins before it starts, and was hoping to take some snacks; will there be any issues with that?

Is it going to be insanely crowded?

I’d assume the normal Piece Hall toilets wouldn’t be sufficient for however many thousand people all attending a gig; do they have extra facilities?

Looking for a private allergy test, UK - how do I know what I can trust, and how do I find one that’s affordable?

Hi,
A couple of years ago one of my colleagues at work got an extensive allergy patch test done and discovered a number of allergies they never knew about which explained a whole load of discomfort they’d been experiencing.

Having learned this, they’ve been able to make lifestyle changes which have been transformational.

I would like to get one done for similar reasons, but I don’t really know who or what to trust, and how to find a good one.
I have spoken to the colleague about theirs, but their financial resources are significantly greater than mine so I can’t afford to go down the same route as they did.

Can anyone advise on how I can understand who to trust and what constitutes good value for money?

Morning snacks to keep upstairs?

Like most kids under 5, ours are impossible to wake up during the week but on Saturday they’re bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6am.

Our two year-old will happily play in their room once she gets up, but the four-year-old comes and moans at me that she’s hungry.

Funnily enough, once we get downstairs that hunger appears to be entirely forgotten, so I am fairly sure it’s just a ruse to get me to take her downstairs!

To test this theory I’d like to try keeping some breakfast-y snacks upstairs so if she is hungry when she gets up, there’s something to keep her going, but I’m not sure what…

Does anyone else do this? What kind of snacks do you use?

Which major retailers have the best FR chicken welfare

I won’t buy caged hen eggs out of principle, but also can’t afford proper posh organic eggs given the volume we go though.
I know not all ‘free range’ is actually free range as in chickens get freedom to roam.

So which major retailers eg supermarkets or egg producers you’d see all over have the best welfare for their hens?

Are horses good escape artists?

I live in a village where there are a few fields which are home to a handful of horses. They’re owned by local private individuals rather than a stable or farmer.

Almost every week there are one or two incidents where the horses are found wondering a local bridle path or having a good gallop down our street.

Quite often, this prompt questions on social media about how well secured the fields are - and in fairness, the fences in some of them are little more than a piece of barbed wire strung between a few rickety posts.

But the horse owners always get very touchy about this, and they are adamant somebody must be deliberately letting them out.

The horses being out don’t actually bother me because they’re not doing any harm but I am dubious that someone’s actually going round and letting horses out of fields - partly because I know horses can be stubborn and refuse to move for someone they don’t know, but also because it’s not always the same horses so presumably not an individual with a grudge against one of the owners. It also normally happens in the morning (6-7am) so I doubt it’s teenagers.

So I’m just wondering, are horses particularly inclined to find weak spots in their boundaries and break through them?

‘Squatters rights’ - claiming a garden for our own: what are the requirements? [England]

Hiya,

We’ve lived in our house 7 years. It’s a Victorian terrace, and on the deeds are the front garden, house and a section of the access lane immediately outside the back door.

On the other side of the access lane at the back is a strip of land which has been divided into gardens.
As far as we know, none of these are actually on the deeds of any of the houses - ‘our’ garden certainly isn’t.

At the point at which we moved in, ‘our’ garden had fence posts down either side from a previous fence, but there were no panels left. It had also previously been landscaped and had a shed etc, and Google Maps history suggests it’s been used as far back as their records go. We’ve been maintaining and using the garden since 2019 and put up replacement fences in 2020.

The land which the gardens make up was apparently owned by a local property developer, who went bust in late 2019. I tried to contact the administrators at the time but they were almost impossible to get hold of, and when I did finally get through, they weren’t interested. The land in question wasn’t listed in any of the liquidation documents, though there was a reference to assets consisting of ‘small pockets of land around the area which have no meaningful value’ or something to that effect.

So with all that context: we would ultimately like to get the garden added to our house’s deeds, presumably under what is commonly referred to as ‘Squatter’s Rights’. I believe the threshold for this is now 10 years.

I’ve had a read of the .gov website but I’m still not clear what the requirements and process are, and also if the fact that the last known owner of the land (as best I know) went bust nearly 7 years ago adds complications.

Can anyone summarise for me what I need to know and what steps I can take to start the process when the time comes, or how I can find out if we’d even be able to do this?

Thanks!

Silencing Snootles… any moral dilemma here?

Just started this mission which apparently involves murdering Tatooine’s most iconic singing frog.

Whilst I’m absolutely on board with the sentiment, given that this mission apparently involves causing harm to an actual recognised character from the SW universe rather than a random NPC, I just wanted to check that there’s no implications for going ahead with it - like in Red Dead Redemption where you suddently find you’ve got a reputation amongst the NPCs or whatever?!

Or can I fry Sy with no regrets?

Has anyone taken a Festival Trolley on Ryanair in place of a pushchair?

Hiya,
We are flying abroad later this year with Ryanair, who allow two items of hold luggage with each child booking - so we’d normally take one pushchair plus a car seat each.

But our recent experience at home has been that our festival trolley is so much more practical than the pushchair for us now - easier to fit two kids in, folds up smaller to go in the boot, better on sand on the beach (wider wheels) and narrower than a double pushchair for around town.

Has anyone tried taking a Festival Trolley as one of your hold luggage items instead of a pushchair and did you have any issues with the airline?

(Just to pre-empt any comments - our destination is a relative’s holiday home and the area is well known to us so no concerns about the practicality of a trolley over a pushchair once we are there. The airline is the only obstacle!)

Thanks!

Fans who’re actually at the WC: What’s the best chant you’ve heard?

It’s fairly well understood now that broadcasters are filtering out the crowd noise where it suits them because there’s been a lot of anti-Trump chanting amongst other things.

So I want to know from fans who are actually over there at the games: what’s the best chant you’ve heard at a game at this World Cup so far?

Would love to know the best Trump ones but also just generally!

Eufy Solar-powered camera running out of battery…

Hi,
We installed a Eufy SoloCam C20 with built-in solar panel on the front of the house a few months ago.

It’s worked brilliantly and I’ve never had to charge it, but in the past week or so it has twice run out of battery.

The camera’s mounted on a south-facing wall where it gets full sunlight all day, so I don’t understand why it’s not staying charged.

Any ideas? I have ended up turning down the sensitivity for now but I’d originally turned it up because it had missed a couple of things I’d hoped it had captured.

Thanks!

Chilled playlist of ‘classic’ songs for bedtime?

Each night when our kids go to bed, I usually put some gentle music on quietly for background noise - mostly instrumental stuff.

I was wondering about creating a playlist of ‘classic’ ballad-type tunes that aren’t high energy, as an alternative.

The song that immediately jumps to mind is Night Ride Home, by Joni Mitchell, as it’s such a chilled song with the lovely wildlife sounds as a backdrop.

What other chilled classic tunes might be good to include? Your Song by Elton also comes to mind, as well as Lullaby by Billy Joel.

There’s a heatwave imminent, apparently. How are we keeping our (older) cars cool?

For those of us that don’t have cars which car pre-cool the cabin to exactly 17.2 degrees as soon as it detects you’re within 25 metres of them, what are some effective ways to avoid the ‘fires of hell experience’ when we get in our cars?

Assuming parking in shade isn’t an option, how can I avoid becoming an instant roast chicken by sitting in my seat, and getting third degree burns from my steering wheel?
