9mm familiarity

I got my first gun in the late 90’s. Then, as now, Glocks were big. .40 was too, unlike now.

I shot friends’ Glocks, but recall not being impressed. Don’t remember the exact reason.

Recently picked up a G22, a .40 caliber service sized. My first Glock. Have taken it to the range twice now. Both times I carried my 940. This second time, it occurred to me that shooting a 9mm stainless steel J Frame revolver is a similar experience to shooting a polymer framed service sized .40. Similar recoil and time to reacquire the target.

.40 is the sweet spot for me. I suppose that 30 years does that to a person. But it might help explain my affinity for the 9mm revolver.

Moon Clip Monday: Pistol Caliber

Both images, L to R.

Top: 940(J Frame), 986(L Frame), 929(N Frame)
Bottom : 610(N Frame), 625(N Frame)/Governor

These are Craftsman Nano Small Versastack Compatible Stackable Plastic Storage Cases (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DT4YQXLR). They are tall enough for Pistol Caliber cartridges, but not Revolver Caliber.

I can get 14 J Frame 9mm clips in one. Fewer as the frame size and caliber increases.

You can see that some still have the inserts that I made for them to keep the clips from bouncing around. I used to strip the clips at the range, and the inserts allowed me to stack the empty clips on one post, so they would not get tangled up or damaged. Now I strip the empty cases at home, and bag some for friends who reload, and bag the others to take back for the brass buckets at the range. My insert for the J only held ten clips, so this is both more convenient (more reloads) and more expensive (more cartridges used).

Since the .45 caliber clips are so large, and so few fit in a case, I have set up two cases. The cases can clip together, but they are easier to put in the range bag separated.

The price fluctuates, I recently bought them for 18.99$.

SR40 magazine spring

I tried Wolff Springs. They don’t list them specifically, although they list recoil springs. Neither does the Ruger website.

Are there other springs that are compatible, like the P Series?

Thanx.

Governor .410 ammunition

Any specific recommendations?

Is anything acceptable, or are there loads I should avoid?

G22 Slide Issue

I bought my first gun in the 1990’s. We used to shoot each other’s guns at the range. Glocks never impressed me. Recently the LGS showed this G22 to me (first image, can anyone confirm it is a second generation?). Upgraded barrel and trigger (second image of the replacement parts bags containing the replaced parts). I started in the .40 Era, and he knows I like them. So I bought it.

My First Glock.

Took it to the range yesterday. Loaded up the included ten cartridge magazine, inserted it, and racked the gun. It stayed back after I released it, but not locked. The slide advanced so the it was about an eighth of an inch forward of where the slide lock would have engaged. After locking it back, removing the magazine and the top cartridge, I returned it to the gun. Racked it again. Same result. After fooziling with it a bit, I found that pushing down on the slide release caused the slide to slide forward and chamber the cartridge, even though the release was not locked into the slide.

The first magazine required this after every shot. The second magazine load required the slide lock “release” initially, but worked as expected for the next three shots. Then back to releasing it after every shot.

As I progressed through the box of ammunition, things got better, but the slide would not release initially, and failed to return at least once per load. The second box was much the same, the necessary initial release, but occasionally I would make it through the ten shots without having to release the slide , but sometimes not.

Today I tried again. The first magazine required probably five releases, not including the initial one. It slowly got better, but never trouble free.

So, does anyone have any idea what is going on? Google was not helpful.

Thanx.

I have been using a Springfield Armory Gear Pac bag that I got several years ago with a 1911.

Sadly, the zipper has failed. Fortunately I can order a replacement from them for 37$ (plus 10$ shipping unless I find 13$ of other things to buy.

Before I go there, I thought I would see if anyone had a recommendation.

I want something that:

Fits two full sized guns, with 5” barrels

Slots for at least six magazines, but ideally eight

Includes room inside the pistol compartment for a magazine pouch

Includes storage for 3 boxes of .45 ammunition.

These are basically the specs of the SA bag.

Thanx.

S&W just released a video about the unreleased C Frame six shot small frame revolver.

I wonder why they would bring this up . . . .

u/AdWitty6655 — 22 days ago

What is the conventional wisdom about unjacketed ammunition in comp’d revolvers?

I know the short barrel S&W 500 includes two different tips for the barrel, one for jacketed and one for unjacketed.

So, should I avoid using things like wadcutters in my Model 19 carry comp?

I got wadcutters for use in J Frames, but I plan to bring a revolver to a club thing to share with new people. I thought wadcutters with a K Frame would be a great place for them to start, but then I wondered about the comp. I can just bring the 66, but I still want to know the answer.

Thanx.
