I'm struggling with my best friend

First time posting here, I need some direction and I hoped you all could help me.

Long story short my bf is an alcoholic. She's at the point where I'm afraid she's going to die if she doesn't get some help.

I wrote on the Vent sub about my struggles with her and they suggested that I join this sub. They also suggested I may actually be part of the problem because Im always here for her and try to help her so I am enabling her behavior.

I'm just wondering if I can still have a relationship with her or if I need to cut her off until/unless she gets help. She is supposed to see the dr today and I want to reach out and ask her to lmk what's going on but I'm not sure if I should now.

Any advice is appreciated.

My best friend is dying

Im just so frustrated. She's slowly been killing herself with alcohol for years now. She's in denial that's she's an alcoholic. Her body is basically giving up on her. She's lost so much weight she's literally skin and bones. Her legs will randomly give out when she tries to stand up or step up. She's wasting away right in front of me. I know she doesn't have much time left but it seems like she just doesn't really care. So far theres been no bottom deep enough to make her quit. She's broken her back in 2 places because she fell while drunk, another bad fall and she may be paralyzed. She's starving, her body has eaten her fat stores and now its going after her muscle which is why she so weak.

I've told her she's going to die. So has her family. She cries, says she doesn't want to die yet changes absolutely nothing.

I'm exhausted. I've been trying to help her for years but she doesn't listen to anything I say. She doesn't follow up with her Dr. She doesn't listen to her Dr. She doesn't listen to her family.

I've been slowly backing away from her for months now. Trying to ease the hurt when she finally dies. I've told her as much. I can't continue enabling her behavior. I can't keep allowing her to use her health issues as an excuse for attention. She never follows up. She doesn't advocate for her own health. She doesn't take meds as prescribed.

Idk how to help her anymore. I can't care about her life and her health more than she does. I can't keep dropping everything to help her out of some mess. I can't keep being her therapist because she refuses to see an actual therapist.

I love her but I'm tired. I suffer from GAD, CPTSD & Depression. I work hard on my mental health and my physical health. I see a therapist, I listen to my Dr. I'm trying to be okay but she keeps pulling me back down.

I want to help her but how can I when she doesn't even help herself.

How can I give up though... she has no one else but a brother and he's about tired of her shit too. She's just an emotional drain.

It sucks watching someone you love slowly kill themselve. And the most messed up part, all this could be resolved if she just stopped drinking and applied herself to getting well.

Pool time or work time

I'm trying to decide if I should be an adult today and do some much need yard work OR if I should just forget that entirely and lounge by the pool all day..

This seems a little too perfect and completely unrealistic but I can't tell if this is AI.

This popped up on my IG feed. I just can't believe that a bee would do this. Has anyone seen a bee do this sort of behavior? It all seems a little too perfect to me to be real.

Still dressing like it's the 80s

I've recently decided its time to start dressing like an actual grown up. I've lived in jeans, jean shorts, tshirts and hoodies for forever. Mostly in the colors black, gray and brown, no patterns tyvm. But at 57 I've decided that I'd like to dress with a bit more intention and have begun replacing old clothes with new used clothes. I must say, it makes me feel much better about myself. I still have my jeans, hoodies and tshirts but now I have some skirts, blouses and dresses too.

Anyone else decide its time to dress a bit more grown up or are we saying fuck it, I'll die wearing 80s attire?

I love being an atheist

Growing up in a catholic family releasing all that catholic guilt has been amazing. I don't feel burdened with any religious dogma. I don't feel obligated to follow the book of rules. I don't feel guilty for lazy Sundays. I don't feel bound by any restriction except my own. Being unencumbered by rules and expectations. Being a realist and being okay with death being a simple non existance on any plane. And being feared by ppl who have NO idea what an atheist actually is.

What are some of your favorite things about being an atheist?

Favorites

Does anyone else favor their own items? I do it because its an easy way to see what's sold and what's still available. It can be both exhilarating and depressing. Lol

Turn my pool into a baptism

My elderly MIL moved into our home about almost 2 years ago. She's a pretty religious person and has found her church and is making friends and honestly I'm thrilled for her. She's a very sweet lady and we get along great even though we completely disagree on any religious grounds.

She recently asked if her church could use our pool for baptisms and I immediately said of course you can. If it makes her happy and isn't interfering with my life I see no issue.

I'm lucky she doesn't try to argue her beliefs or force them in any way on us. And we treat her with the same respect.

How would you guys react to such a request? And can you coexist peacefully with believers in your own home?

Cover your mouth!!!!

Sitting in a doctor's office surrounded by boomers and one guy is just coughing and coughing and not even trying to cover his mouth. Sick ppl everywhere and this guy just spreads his germs for all to catch. So rude, so out of touch, so fucking annoying!

Psychedelic therapy

Hi all. I'm just looking for some input from those who have tried psychedelic therapies.

I'm seen such promising research about micro dosing psilocybin. Some studies suggesting that it rids users of PTSD all together.

Also ketamine therapy. This one Im a bit more apprehensive about.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Cutting people out of my life

Recently I have started cutting more ppl out of my life. Im exhausted with playing nice to keep the peace.

These people are partly why I have CPTSD yet society says I need to be polite and swallow all the anger and hurt and just play nice.

But I'm done.

I dont care who I hurt. Im protecting myself now, years later. It will make for awkward scheduling but again, Idc.

It sucks that people who have been abused are forced to play nice with the ones who abused them, and I for one am done doing it.

So far Ive cut out 2 sisters, my ex husband, and an adult child and I am prepared to cut out more if they disrespect me.

At 57 I am finally saying enough of playing by societies rules. Done allowing abusers access to any parts of me. Fuck them, I refuse to forgive them. They all are having exactly the lives they deserve and they can continue swimming in the toilet bowl of their own shit.
