I refuse to proceed reading until I’ve solved the MU puzzle
I _will_ solve this, I can’t give up on the book this early
How do you decide whether to rely on compiler vecotorization vs writing your own SIMD?
I’ve been learning to write SIMD recently but I’m a bit fuzzy on when I would rely on compiler vs doing it myself
On one hand the compiler doing it saves a lot of code/hassle and it can likely do a good job
But if my application is something performance critical do I want to rely on the whims of the compiler or should that be baked into the application logic itself with manually written SIMD?
I did find that there is a flag you can pass and it will dump out which loops it did/didn’t vectorize which is handy
I guess I’m wondering what’s the typical practice for high performance c++ applications?
Do they write their own or rely on compiler?
Is there any way to get the physical Zack-Like book anymore?
The only thing I’ve found is an ebay listing that says it prints on demand but idk if that would be bad quality
How is the cable management of the brain?
Just curious but is it spaghetti or well organized?
Alexisonfire's ‘Crisis’ Returns to the Billboard Chart, 20 Years After Its Release
ca.billboard.comIf you were to simulate a brain on paper would it be conscious?
So assume we can simulate a brain in a computer so well that we agree it’s conscious
If you take the same algorithms and compute them by hand on paper advancing the simulation slowly, feeding inputs into your calculations representing external stimuli
Obviously this would be extremely slow and take an incredible amount of paper but imagine you did this
Maybe you spend 100 years to compute 1 second of brain activity
Would the paper brain be conscious?
Could consciousness exist in pure math?
DAE feel super sad thinking about old dead MMORPGs you used to play?
Just the though of walking around an empty world like you’re the last person on earth
Realizing it wasn’t really the game itself but the community that made it magical
A big list of friends all offline and never coming back
Realizing those people are all 20 years older now, wondering what happened to them and where they are now
Some married, some with kids, some passed away
Knowing at some point they logged out for the last time and that moment was just a fragile bubble in time that you can never go back to.
Is it not crazy that this became a normal thing in the industry?
As developer I would not even expect a user to know what a “shader” is
It’s a pretty low level implementation detail
Yet you boot up a game in 2026 and front and center you are staring at “shader compiling” for 10 minutes
Is that not crazy to anyone else if you just zoom out and think about it?
Is it possible to tour the Hell’s Angels HQ while visiting?
I’m visiting from europe and was planning on checking out golden gate bridge and Alacatraz
I heard this place is also the origin of hells angels
Do you think they would give me a quick tour if I show up at the HQ while I’m here?
Thanks
I don’t understand the politics of the 60s hells angels
After reading the book it really doesn’t make sense to me
How can your philosophy be like “fuck authority” no one tells me what to do i’m a rebel
But then you also are a US patriot and follow/support the government being in Vietnam
To the point that you try to stop protestors themselves from rebelling
Even though you are a proclaimed rebel?
Huh??
Is that a typo in Hell’s Angels?
Came across this and I’m like wait isn’t 1200 cubic inches massive
That would be like a 20L engine lol
DAE feel like you occillate between “damn my life is awesome” and “what am I doing with my life”
It’s like for example sometimes you’re on an awesome vacation having a blast not worrying about money or being tied down
Then other quiet days it’s like is this all meaningless fun with no point
Could you build your own DLSS with Neural Shaders?
Since it allows you to run networks during shading
Would it be possible in theory to use your own network for upscaling?
Where is this photo of sand dunes taken? I’ve looked all over google and can’t figure it out
Do you ever get so tired of dealing with clothes shopping that you just don’t do it
Like it’s such a fucking hassle that you can’t just walk into a shop and buy something
Everything is such an ordeal that I just don’t even bother buying clothes most of the time because I just don’t want to deal with it
Bit the bullet and paid $700 for bmw training, now I can confidently handle these water crossings 💪
Is riding dunes worth it or does it get boring fast?
I was just wondering is riding sand dunes worth doing a road trip to try
Or is it one of those things like riding a jet ski where it’s fun for like an hour
