I'm Starting A Daily Starkid Rewatch Tommorow!

Hi!

I thought it would be fun to rewatch all the Starkid shows and rank/review them as I go along.

I'm going to be posting my mini-review here every day (hopefully, I might miss some lol) along with my live thoughts from my notes app and a fun little canva graphic!

I would love if anyone wanted to join me and share their thoughts in the comments of the daily posts (:

I'm starting tmrw with AVPM and working forwards in chronological order!

Any Good Fantasy/Romantasy Recommendations?

Hiya!

I'm about to finish my current series (The Naturals) and I was wondering if anyone had any good book/series recommendations for me?

Some books I've liked in the past:

  • Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom. I really loved the characters and I think the pacing of the plot was so perfect! (I also liked the Shadow and Bone series but I liked these 2 more lol)
  • Clockwork Princess. Amazing book in all aspects. Loved the romance, characters, plot and pacing!
  • The Last Hour Shadowhunters Series. Tbf I didn't massively enjoy the last book but the first 2 I really loved! I thought the relationship between the characters was great and the 🔥spiciness🔥 level was perfect for me.
  • The Caraval Series. I read these over a year ago so I can't really remember why I liked them lol but I gave them all at least a 4 on storygraph lol.

A couple (loose) requirements:

  • Not too spicy. I'm fine with closed door and very metaphorical descriptions in open door but anything more than that always makes me uncomfortable lol. (I could probably deal with it if it's not a big focus tho).
  • Not super scary/disturbing. I'm a generally pretty anxious person lol so I can't do anything thats gonna make me anxious/worried. (Like I said I'm currently reading The Naturals and thats pretty much right at the top of my tolerance for scary stuff. Maybe even a little bit over lmaoo).

Any recommendations would be amazing! (:

Starkid Future Projects Timeline?

I'm bored and I thought it would be fun to try and predict the general sort of time all the newly announced projects will come out! I haven't watched all of the stream and I'm just going off of this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarKid/comments/1tf89gx/announcements_from_the_livestream/ so I might have missed a few details lol.

I think first we gotta establish the general Starkid schedule. It ofc changes a bit from year to year but I think the average schedule/project lineup is this (as of the last few years):

  • Winter: Generally an off season. This year we had Space Baby so I'll maybe say sometimes a small side project.
  • Spring: Kickstarter announcement for the next main show. Previous year's main show can sometimes be released here too.
  • Summer: If the previous year's show wasn't released in Spring it will be here. The LA run of the current year's show generally happens in late Summer.
  • Fall: Digital ticket of the current show tends to be released. Sometimes a smaller Hatchetfield project (Nightmare Time & Miss Holloween).
  • So with all that info I think we can fairly accurately predict the rest of this year and next year's schedule. (After that it will get more into guesswork lol)

2026/2027 Season:

  • Summer 2026: TGWDLM:R youtube release on the 4th July, Tomb Quest LA run 30th July to 23rd August.
  • Fall 2026: Miss Holloween.
  • Winter 2026-2027: Starkid said they want to release the Tomb Quest proshot in "late 2026" but due to previous evidence I don't think that's going to happen. But if it does I'll be happy lol. Potentially VHS christmas carol?
  • Spring 2027: I personally think this is when the Tomb Quest proshot will come out. Kickstarter release for the next show. I think it's most likely to be Fancyland. The show had been completed before they even started writing Tomb Quest and it feels like it will be a bit of a different vibe to recent projects so I think they will put this between more Hatchetfield stuff. Also another London concert?
  • Summer 2027: LA run of Fancyland (or whatever show they do). Official announcement for NMT3?
  • Fall 2027: Nightmare Time season 3 (if Miss Holloween does well, which I'm pretty sure it will lol).
  • Winter 2027: Again, maybe a VHS Christmas Carol but apart from that probably an off season.

Okay so after this it gets really difficult because this is now over a year and a half away. I don't really have much evidence to go off of here so this is just my slightly educated guess lol.

  • Spring 2028: Fancyland proshot release. Kickstarter for next show (I'm guessing it might be Glam And The Pentagrams next. Mainly because it will follow on nicely from NMT3). Maybe another annual London concert?
  • Summer 2028: Glam And The Pentagrams LA run. Announcement for Castle series mini project?
  • Fall 2028: Castle series mini project. (or another side project)
  • Winter 2028: Nothing lol
  • Spring 2029: 20 year anniversary show/reunion on the 9th April? Glam And The Pentagrams proshot release and Kickstarter for next show (which by process of elimination will be the Pirate musical lol).
  • Summer 2029: Pirate musical LA run.
  • Fall 2029: nothing (or maybe a revival?)
  • Winter 2029: same as fall.
  • Spring 2030: Pirate musical youtube release.

So that's my educated guess lol but I could be completely wrong 😂. I'm fairly confident in my prediction up until Summer 2028 but after that I have no clue tbh lol. I also think that Glam And The Pentagrams and the pirate show could be swapped.

Anyway this was a lot of fun and I'd love to see what you all think (:

I have a few questions about Crimson Desert...

Hi!

I've seen a lot of discourse about Crimson Desert over the last few months and it looks god but I'm still on the fence about buying it so I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions that I have about it (:

  1. Is it enjoyable? (I'm not talking about wether or not it's objectively good, I just want to know if it's entertaining lol)
  2. Is it scary/stressful? (I'm a pretty generally anxious person lol and I am quite sensitive to scary stuff and jumpscares.)
  3. Is it overly gory? (I can do blood but super disturbing gore is a no for me)

Any answers would be great!

What would you guys prefer?

I'm thinking of making a video with both versions of TGWDLM where I play the songs but intercut between them and sometimes overlap. I'll also say which version I prefer for each one and why at the end of each song.

I was wondering if you all think I should play the songs in full or just the best/most popular parts of the songs?

Any answers would be great!

Is it just me or would The Naturals make an amazing movie?

I'm actually tempted to try and adapt it into a movie script just for the fun of it lmao.

I feel like the story is perfect for a YA murder mystery/thriller film without being too dumbed down but also not too scary or disturbing.

I need some non-scary game recommendations!

Hi!

I recently finished my last game (Hades 2) and I thought I would ask here because I'm having a hard time finding a new game.

I'm not massively fussy when it comes to genre (but I tend to gravitate towards cosy/indie games), my only main thing is that it needs to be not scary (or to stressful) because I'm massive scaredy cat lol.

I mainly play on mac but I do have a switch 2 and Nvidia Geforce now (:

Some games that I've enjoyed and why:

Hades 1 & 2: I really liked the gameplay loop and the characters were cool too!

Tiny Bookshop: I love books and I really liked the vibe but I found the gameplay to get a bit stale after a while.

American Truck Sim: Really enjoyed this one but burned out after about 100 hours. It was really nice to put on a podcast and just drive around.

Dave The Diver: Really enjoyed it up until the ice section then got bored (also found it a bit too stressful tbh lol)

Any recommendations would be great!

Potential Future Revivals?

Hi!

I just watched the proshot of TGWDLM:R last night and aaaaa it was soo good! And it got me thinking, what other shows could Starkid potentially revive in the future? This is what I think:

AVPM & AVPS: I LOVE AVPM (and AVPS) so I really hope they do redo it at some point with a higher budget and better filming and stuff. I guess the only issue might be copyright but I don't know why that would have changed since 2009... Maybe they'll revive it for the 20th anniversary in 2029.

MAMD: I don't really know why they would revive this one tbh. It's not at all a bad show but its probably the least popular (mainly because not many people have actually watched it lol) so I don't think many people would be particularly excited to see it again.

Starship: This probably has a higher chance than most of the older shows because it's not a direct parody (so no copyright issues) and it was probably one of the more popular shows from that era. It would be cool if they could get Darren back to write some more songs for it and maybe cut down the runtime too...

Holy Musical B@man: Pretty much the same reasons as Starship except the copyright stuff might be an issue.

AVPSY: I don't really see why this would get revived. It's by far the least popular of the Potter Trilogy and was really just shown for the fans. I could maybe see them doing it if they do the previous 2 Potter shows though.

Twisted: Omg I would be so happy if they redid Twisted! It's one of my fave shows and I think it's probably the most popular outside of the Hatchetfield shows. I could totally see them redoing this as long as they can sort out the copyright.

Ani: I actually haven't seen this one so I can't really speak on it lol.

TTO: They definitely could redo this show but Tomb Quest seems to be a very similar sort of premise and vibe so I don't really see them redoing it any time soon.

Firebringer: I just don't think many people would be particularly interested in this tbh. I feel like the general consensus is that this show is just very mid so I don't know why they would revive it.

TGWDLM: They just revived it lol so they probably won't again (or not for a long time).

Black Friday: This one is really interesting. Black Friday was an extremely polarising show (I personally didn't really like it lol) but I think with some changes to the plot and pacing it could be really good. I could see them reviving this in the next few years as part of a Hatchetfield reprise series (followed by NPMD).

NPMD: This was definitely a popular enough show to redo but is was pretty recent so I think they would wait until at least 2030 to do it. It could be part of this Hatchetfield revival thing I mentioned.

Cinderella's Castle: Same as with NPMD, it's wayy to recent to revive anytime soon but because there were such a wide range of responses to this show idk if they would do it anyway.

So, my picks for the most likely are:

  • AVPM (for the 20th anniversary)
  • Twisted (it would be so cool on a higher budget)
  • Black Friday (heavily changed)
  • NPMD (not for a while though)

What do you think?

My Review Of The Naturals (+ Important Question)

I'll put any twist spoilers in a spoiler tag (:

So I just finished The Naturals and I have lot of thoughts and I wanted to share them here!

I normally read Fantasy/Romantasy so this was kind of out of my comfort zone. I'm going to structure this into things I thought were good, things I thought were fine, and things I didn't like. I'm probably going to be comparing this to The Inheritance Games series quite a bit because thats the closest thing I have read to this and they have the same author.

Also I thought it might be important to note that I actually knew who the killer was before I started reading (I accidentally spoiled it for myself 😔) but I think it's a testament to how well the killer was written that I still had a great time and still wasn't entirely sure who it was lol.

🟢 Things I Thought Were Good:

  • All the main characters (apart from Cassie lmao) felt very individual and unique. I feel like The Inheritance Games struggled with this but there weren't really and boring characters here (like I said apart from Cassie but I'll get to that).
  • The love triangle also was surprisingly well done and there wasn't a clear winner between Michael and Dean. I was very Team Michael for the first half but Dean started to grown on me and now I'm pretty split. The only thing I would say is that Dean & Michael are literally just Grayson and Jameson from The Inheritance Games lmao.
  • The twist of the killer being>!Agent Locke!<was very unexpected (even though I knew it was them since the beginning) and I think the author did a good job at leaving little hints throughout. The main one I noticed was that>!Locke didn't like Lia because she was the only one who could see through her lies!<.
  • The usage of Truth or Dare to find out stuff about the main characters felt really clever and a fun way to get some exposition.

🟠 Things I Thought Were Fine:

  • Cassie as a main character was pretty boring imo. I don't think she is bad but she really has no personality outside of "I'm good at reading people" and "I'm not like the other girls".
  • The pacing was also a bit funky. It wasn't awful and it definitely made for a great page turner (I finished it in 4 days which is fast for me lol) but to me it felt like nothing of significance happened in the first 3/4 of the book. I think a good way to describe it is this book feels like a part 1 of a longer book (which it kind of is, being part of a series).
  • Dean showing up whenever Cassie and Michael were alone together was really hilarious. Like, how is this guy managing to always be lurking nearby when they are about to kiss?
  • On a similar note, I wasn't a massive fan of the sort of insta-love thing going on. It didn't ruin the love triangle at all for me but I like the slow burn/yearning stuff which always makes the first kiss seem way more impactful. I think a lot of that impact was lost when we have Cassie kiss both of her love interests in the first half of this (pretty short) book.

🔴 Things I Didn't Like:

  • I found it really odd how trusting Cassie is. Like, her mother was literally murdered and then she is miraculously recruited to profile serial killers by the FBI. Idk about you guys but if I was Cassie I would be wayyy more suspicious of this.
  • Leading on from my last point, I also found it weird that Cassie listened to>!Locke!<and just straight up left the safe house and ditched her guards when they thought the killer was in the house. It was so painfully obvious this was a set up and idk why Dean didn't try to stop her tbh lol.

This isn't something that I think is bad about the book but personally I found the gore and violence quite a bit too much for me. This is obviously very subjective but it was almost too much for me. So I was wondering does the violence, gore and disturbing stuff get worse as the series goes on? Because I don't know if I can do anything more intense than the stuff in this book.

Thanks for reading my review and it would be great if anyone could answer my question abt the disturbing stuff (:

I would also love to discuss this book in the comments!

How Do I Download TGWDLM:R From The Starkid Website?

Hi!

I want to download TGWDLM:R from the website (I bought the $15 version) but I don't see a download button anywhere. I managed to do it for Cinderella's Castle last year but I don't remember how lol so if anyone could help me that would be great (:

Tomb Quest Hype Post!

I just listened to all the demos from the livestream (whoever posted the timestamps is amazing) and OMG they are so good!!

I'm feeling so hyped for Tomb Quest! (And I'm not even into D&D lmao) I didn't realise this until literally today lol but this is actually my first time being a fan while they are creating a new show! (I became a fan in late 2024, so Cinderella's Castle had already had it's live shows and TGWDLM:R was a reboot so the excitement and speculation wasn't the same)

So I thought I would make this post for everyone to discuss their thoughts, feelings and prediction for the show!

My personal prediction is that it's going to feel like a higher budget Trail To Oregon but it's D&D instead of The Trail To Oregon game!

What Is A Book That You Think Is Extremely Overrated, And One That You Think Is Underrated?

Thought this would be fun and I need some recs lol.

Overrated: The Divergent Series. I acc quite like the first book and have read it a couple times but I never have managed to make it past the first bit of book 2.

Underrated: The Finding Sky Series by Joss Stirling. I'm pretty sure literally no one knows about this series lol but it's really good! It's very chill and fairly low stakes (in comparison to most YA fantasy) but the central romances are all really good and the atmosphere (especially in the first books) is great! It's kind of like Twilight but nowhere near as cringe or icky.

What Shows Could Be Changed To Be Set In A Different Time Period?
