I bought a robot vacuum and have been using it for ~four weeks. A few days ago it started throwing an error message and stopping mid-cleaning. The manufacturer says it’s a warranty issue as the machine doesn’t appear to actually have the issue the error message is describing.
The item is still within the return window at Amazon. Rather than deal with the manufacturer’s warranty dept., I’m thinking it might be easier to just return it to Amazon. I went through the return creation steps today, marking it as defective, and before the confirm button it said there may a fee if it appears to have been used.
That gave me pause. Am I not allowed to return something defective if I used it before realizing it was defective?! Isn’t that one of the main reasons to have a return window? Not venting, truly asking what I should do.

In my bathroom I have a bathmat. The robot mapped the room and identified it as a carpet. I hung up the bathmat and set it to mop, and it avoided the area where the bathmat was. I removed the carpet designation from the map. I assume it's ok to vacuum the bathmat as if it wasn't a carpet? But if I set it to mop and forget to remove the bathmat, I assume it's going to mop over it?
Any way to have it mop the area the bathmat covers when the bathmat isn't there, but not when it is?
In my bedroom I have a pair of thick shag rugs (27"x72"). When the robot meet the rug edges from the hardwood floor, the front of the robot pushes the shag straight up, blocking its own way onto the rug. It was able to get onto it a couple times by coming at it from an angle (and vacuums fine once on top), but mostly fails to find a way to climb on top. I tried adding the "threshold" setting to the edges, but it hasn't helped.
Any way to have it climb onto a thick rug? And if not in the app or device, any tips for a rug accessory that acts as a short ramp?
