Why does vaush call profit seeking rent seeking?

Not hating, just curious. I feel like profit seeking is more accurate to what he's describing?

Like, am I crazy? How is a contractor overcharging a city for a construction process rent seeking? Who is renting what?

Again not hating. I'm probably just stupid.

That's all

There's a specific pro game cast that I remember and can't find

It's old as fuck, probably over 7 years old

The game ends with one player being down to a zealot, one player down to 2 zerglings and a drone

Toss has way more buildings, and both players have less than 50 minerals

They realize that the zealot can't protect its structures, so they base trade, and the zealot keeps taking chip damage from the broodlings every time a building dies.

There are 2 zerg structures left, and the zealot only has the HP left to survive killing one of them, but they're right next to each other, so the zealot gets both buildings down to red, and kills them both, dying gloriously to the broodlings

BUT WAIT zerg had 26 minerals left and built an assimilator.

I need this cast. Please help.

[request] Is this actually infinite?

What are we looking at here?

This is hearthstone battlegrounds. It's an autobattler. And this is a dumb combo that has a tendency to crash lobbies.

How does the game work? Well, in this instance we can just assume that the minions will die in an order. It alternates, first, the leftmost minion dies, then a random minion (it could be the leftmost minion), then the leftmost, then a random minion.

Now, all of these minions have a keyword called reborn, this means when they die, they resurrect (are summoned), without reborn

Also, all of the minions have an ability that reads "whenever a minion is summoned, give it reborn" it has 2 charges, and only one of them procs every time a minion with reborn dies and is resummoned.

So, at the the turn, they all have 2 charges

I'll represent them like this

2222222

Then the fleftmost one does, and it takes a charge from the next leftmost one to regain reborn

2122222

Then a random one dies, let's say position 4, a charge comes off the leftmost one

1122222

Then the leftmost one dies again

2022222

Then another random one, position 5

1022222

Then the first one again

2012222

Then another random one, let's say position 2 dies

1212222

Then the leftmost

2112222

And so on

.

.

Does this on average go on forever? Does it always? What's the fewest/greatest number of minion deaths that it would take to fully kill all minions so they don't come back?

I've been trying to work it out, but my brain hurts. I can't decide if it's actually infinite or not.

Questions adjacent to the banned V-word

I know posts about veganism are banned, honestly I'm in support. I don't think veganism is a political topic.

We can still talk about abolishing factory farms though right? That's political isn't it?

We can talk about reducing meat consumption right? Cause that's political and leftist.

We can talk about the politics of dairy farming and how it's kind of weird that we keep cows perpetually pregnant and prevent them from feeding their own calves with their milk. Right? Cause that's fucked up. Probably shouldn't be doing that. Dial the capitalism down a few notches, let the calves wean more naturally, stop trying to maximise profitability from each animal.

We care about animal rights still... Right?

I just keep hearing vegans complain that the subreddit has decided that "the concept of reducing animal suffering" has been banned and stuff like that, (some people who I generally like and respect the opinions of, despite their dietary choices) and I guess this post is just a sanity check to make sure that I'm right and the vegans are overreacting.

If you're at a restaurant and you order a veggie burger, and then the waiter comes around with a full beef burger, do you send the burger back or eat it?

Just that.

I mean I guess the third option is you get upset and leave, but like, assume it's a genuine mistake. The restaurant isn't trying to be mean to you or nothing.

Pond progress

Hey it's me! The guy with the crazy plans. They've updated a little bit, the method has changed, we are moving slower than I said I was going to in my last post months ago. Also the ponds moved around. The big excavator only ended up doing the driveway, not the full build. We're getting in some storage containers too cause storage containers are cool and whatnot

Ones going on the pad on the driveway, the other is going a bit back from the driveway.(It's in one of the pics idk how to order them) One on the drive is gonna be a garage, the other one is going to be a fridge/freezer/pantry space

The plans have changed a bit, I didn't upload the new edition, I just copied the last one so y'all would recognize me

Pond project, partway through

So I'm planning on digging out the back bank opposite the couple of rocks I have laid out there, I'm hoping the turbidity calms down when I install some bubble pumps.

Where I dig out the back bank Imma plant cattails and that's where the bubble pump goes, I'm hoping pulling all the water through the cattails is gonna catch the clay. Im also getting in some gravel and sand for the banks and the bottom and I hope that helps too.

Good pond? Dumb pond? Lemma know. Choccy milk.

People on this sub seem to be confused about what randomness is

I know this isn't directly related to free will but randomness comes up a lot and it bothers me how little people seem to understand it, also, I bring it home back to free will at the end. So

EDIT: Imagine some dice that are random. Some like, dice powered by nuclear decay or some shit. Truly random dice.

If I roll a d20 I get a random number between 1&20 it's impossible to predict which number I'm going to get. I mean, I know it's not going to be a 45, there are a range of possible outcomes, but the outcome is truly random.

You can tell me the past 1000 rolls on the die, and it doesn't affect how likely any of the numbers show up. Just because it's rolled a Twelve 6 times is a row doesnt mean it's next roll is any more or less likely than 1/20 to be a 12

We all understand this. I don't think there are many of us who struggle with this.

.

Now, if I roll 1000 d20s, I'm going to get a result that's between 1000 and 20,000, but there's a curve to it. It's probably going to be pretty close to 10500. That doesn't make it any less random. Still, the records of past events don't affect future events. Still, it's impossible to predict what any die is going to come up as. It's still impossible to predict the total, there's just a range of options, and the ones near 10500 are a lot more common

This doesn't make it less random. If I roll the dice and remove all the dice that come up 1's, I can predict that the dice will have a half life of ~13 dice rolls. That doesn't make it any less random

.

If I replace all of the numbers except the 20 with a 3 then I have a die that almost always rolls a 3. However, it's just as random as the first die. I still can't predict when it's going to roll a 20. Just because there are tendencies within a system doesn't mean it's not random. I can accurately predict the outcome of the system 95% of the time, but this a fully random system. Just because a system is highly predictable doesn't mean it's any less random. It's the same die. It's the same random.

.

Also, and here's a big one, random doesn't mean uncontrolled.

If free agents (agents that have free will) exist, then we would expect their behaviour to be mathematically random. If it was not mathematically random, then we would be able to prove that they were not a free agent.

Is there an end goal to veganism?

I've genuinely always been confused about it. Is this a goal oriented political movement? Is it just a matter of personal choice? What does veganism want to do?

If over the next 10 years everyone in the world converts to veganism, what does that accomplish? EDIT: I understand the basics here, but I guess I'm asking more if we need it to solve anything. Like it reduces greenhouse gas emissions, sure, but even if everyone became a vegan, it doesn't solve the environmental problem, the solution can only come from regulation and legislation. It reduces factory farming, but since there would still be a demand for pet food & whatnot, it wouldn't eliminate the practice, the solution to factory farming is legislation and regulation.

And like, all of the problems that are helped by veganism I feel like can be solved without veganism. If we regulate and legislate veganism doesn't feel necessary?

Idk I'm not trying to debate bro, I'm just confused by veganism is all

TIL this interaction *doesn't* work

If you triple the stats of minions you summon, the Pyramad buddy doesn't get their health. Sucks.

Small indie company blah blah, I can't see a reason this shouldn't work. Feels definitely like a bug.

Actually I've changed my mind on the red button

I understand the red pushers logic

But it's insane that people are trying to push it as anything but a shameful cowardly decision

The crazy thing isn't pushing red, it's defending it as the right choice

You push red knowing that you're a self serving coward. It should be a point of shame.

The fact that you have so little faith in your fellow man should be a great point of shame for you

The fact that you can't imagine a good world should be a point of shame

You should feel bad that you pushed red.

I get it, cowards exist. But cowardice isn't a positive trait.

.

EDIT: okay some of you aren't just cowards, you're sinfully prideful. You think that unless you can decide the outcome with your vote, it's not worth voting for the right outcome.

You realize that's "rules for thee and not for me", right? That logic only holds if you assume others will be brave where you have been cowardly and vote blue so that your vote doesn't matter.

Everyone isn't going to vote red. 100% red isn't worth discussing.

So do determinists just not believe in nuclear decay?

Like, whether or not there is free will can be up for debate, I guess

But like, the universe is non deterministic

Current scientific consensus is that nuclear decay is non-deterministic (along with like, a lot of quantum level events)

If a thing is built from non-deterministic parts, the whole can never be fully deterministic

.

Is the universe largely predictable? Of course.

There's evidence to show that like over 90% of human behaviours are predictable

But like, 90% of the actions of my car are predictable

Like, 2% of the pieces in the car control the other 98% so well, they influence that predictability

That all you have to do is work the pedals and the wheel and the car moves for you

.

Does my heart beat on its own? Yeah

Does my breath happen on its own? Usually

Do the muscles in my legs fire in a predictable fashion when I walk around? Of course

But do I have the wheel? Do I have free will? By all observations, I definitely could

There's no evidence to suggest that I don't

There's clear mechanism by which I could have influence over my body in a non deterministic fashion

And whether or not I actually have control over those mechanisms, is fundamentally unknowable

.

But there's something that isn't unknowable, and it's that the universe isn't deterministic

Local hidden variable theory has been disproven

Any Non-local hidden variable theory that could explain our observations would be definition have to violate causality

So either way, the universe is nondeterministic

.

Why is this still a conversation?

TIL The Murloc works with the dragon

Yes, Blizzard has removed the distinction between minions that say "this casts" and "casts"

It seems like blizzard agrees with me and have decided the distinction was in fact poor game design.

I wish I had better screenshots to show, but I play on mobile and suck at taking screenshots,

But I promise you, you can test it yourself

The 6 drop counted the murlocs battlecry as a tavern spell cast

Even though the murloc says "this casts x" and not "casts x"

All spell casts are spell casts
