For the ATGATT crowd, how’s it affecting your desire to ride?

Let me just start off by saying I am an ATGATT myself.

Specifically, every ride, I wear:

-Full Face Helmet
-Earplugs
-Moto Specific Undershirt (breathable)
-Riding Jacket
-Airbag Vest
-Full Gauntlet Gloves
-Armored Riding Jeans
-Full Length Race Boots

So that typically means if I’m hanging around and I say to myself… Hey! Why don’t I go for a ride real quick! I literally have to basically get butt ass naked and rebuild my entire wardrobe.

It’s not a “throw on a jacket and go” it’s a I have to even change my pants and everything.

Also, I love airbags, l I understand the safety aspect, but let’s be real you’re basically wearing an unbreathable trash bag around your body that gets hot even in 75 degrees.

Because of this I’ve had random thoughts of going riding and then I remember I’ll spend 10-15 minutes getting ready and just say F it I’ll take the car.

And it’s not even just getting ready, when you get home you have to spend another 10 minutes transforming back into your normal cloths afterwards.

Anyone else struggle with that too ?

Window ACs and Mold, we gotta talk

So like a naive little homeowner, every summer I would just throw the window ACs from the basement into the windows when it got hot, turned them on and go about my day. Did that for years no problem.

Then I learned about mold - inspected mine and they were all mold factories.

I googled how I clean them and I literally no joke had to take the entire thing apart just to try and deep clean the inside of them

I would do that and then 3 months later, molds back again.

I would throw out the old ACs and buy new ones and then 4 months later, molds in the new ones.

It seems like it literally never ends and you can never win if you want 100% mold free I don’t even think it’s possible.

I know for a fact that no one is getting a tool set out and disassembling their entire AC every year just to clean it out , I mean just think about grandma or grandpa who have used the same window AC for 15 years

Am I just going to have to accept fate that AC = Some form of mold, even minor?

Will first responders break into your home if you are unresponsive?

Let’s say you’re having a heart attack and you call 911 , but before you can even tell them what’s happening you pass out and the line goes silent.

I assume they will send police for a “wellness check”, but what if your doors and windows are all locked and they don’t have a visual? Will they break down your door to come inside and investigate?

What if you make it to the point of saying you need EMS and then pass out? I doubt EMS will break down your door, would they call the cops to come do it?

Either way seems like having a generally secure home will delay your treatment significantly, if you even get it.

Riding got much better after I stopped caring as much

When I first started riding it was almost mandatory in my mind that you have the sportbike “instagram look”

Mirrored visor, all black, zero storage whatsoever.

Did that for awhile and over time realized:

“I can’t see shit out of this visor at night”

“No one else can see me either”

“I can’t even take a 20oz soda with me from a gas station if it doesn’t fit in a jeans pocket”

I ended up changing into some far more reflective clothing with white 3M strips that really pop with headlights

I ended up getting a transitions auto darkening visor that is actually usable past 7pm

Lastly and totally the most under rated mod ever, I added a collapsible tail bag to my bike , it folds down when not in use but I can actually go to the grocery store now and pick up odds and ends and actually have legitimate storage

All of those things have made me much more comfortable while riding, which I think has helped the experience a lot - even if it took my “street cred” down.

I totally underestimated the impact gutters have on a home.

House was built in 1996.

Two story colonial with a basement - no gutters.

Bought the place in 2015 and basically ever since Day 1 the basement had that classic musty smell going on. I actually remember going to Lowe’s and buying a Dehumidifier for the basement like the day after we bought the place just for that specific reason.

I was pretty nieve to the whole situation, all I knew was that after we got the dehumidifier the smell went away, so in my mind it was like voila problem solved.

Well 10+ years go by of emptying water buckets from
The dehumidifier and I think to myself… Let’s get some gutters, they are cheap enough.

Dude…. Why did I not know this? How did no one tell me?

Since the gutter install the dehumidifier barely runs, it literally cut down the usage like 80% and my basement doesn’t even smell anymore even without using the dehumidifier, I can’t even believe what a difference it made.

Even during “torrential downpours” or heavy rain, the dehumidifier barely kicks on.

Over my life I have seen several people pass to the other side.

15+ years ago a family friend was having a superbowl party at their house. They got off the couch to go grab a drink from the fridge and literally out of the blue just dropped stone cold dead - had an aneurysm.

10ish years ago a family member was at work, they were standing near a coworkers desk just talking about whatever and the coworker said, quote, “I don’t feel good” and 3 seconds later dropped to the floor dead - no idea what the cause was on that one as I wasn’t privy to the autopsy results (if they even had one)

Morale of the story is both instances were near instant with what I assume is zero advanced notice, one second your here the next second it’s lights out - no planning, no saying goodbyes, just ✌️✌️

On the flip side I’ve seen elderly members just “age to death” which basically entails almost routine visits in and out of the hospital constantly for XYZ problem, going on Hospice care and just overall being a long drawn out demise that everyone sees coming a mile away

Would you rather know or not know?

Compression socks are the “gold standard” for CVI issues, doctors, nurses, the public all say to wear the socks… the socks help, can’t even deny it…

I’ll listen to the doctors, I’ll wear socks at work, when I’m at home, I’ll wear them with any pants I own, I’m 100% on board with that

BUT

Let’s be honest guys…. I’m in my 30s , it’s hot outside, I go swimming, I go to the beach, I go out on a boat, I’m outside a lot… I’m sorry but I can’t be caught dead wearing knee+ high socks with SHORTS outside in 90 degree weather

Again, if I’m in pants or alone at home, for sure…. But in the summer when it’s 80+ and I wear shorts every day I rarely (meaning never) go out in public with that look

I can’t be the only one?

Hey folks, new to the party but wanted to just have a brief discussion on a couple things.

38M , Family History of bad CVI.

Probably 1-2 years ago I started noticing a vein bulge on one leg, back calf, thought that was weird but didn’t think much of it. Over time it started getting achy, then itchy, then showing skin discolorations, so I booked a doc visit.

Had ultrasound done

Normal GSV, Compromised SSV (back calf)

Results were 4.0s of reflux in SSV, as well as 7.5mm “tributary” off the SSV aka my bulging vein I notice.

My impression is the above results are “significant”, and go beyond the realm of just cosmetic and warrant intervention.

We discussed various options but overall landed on VenaSeal - mainly due to the location of the SSV and the risk of nerve damage if we did ablation, the “no heat” route seemed to be preferred.

My issue is… my family and medical community all talk about how these procedures are basically no big deal, but then you google Reddit and everyone’s horror stories come out of the woodwork.

How bad are these procedures really?

I’ve seen everything from “in and out in 10 minutes like nothing happened” all the way to “I had a PE from it and it changed my life forever”

Medical literature talks about something like 96+% total success rate with no issues, but then the internet makes you think you’re totally screwed if you even think about it.
