What do state police do most of the day?

I just wanna say that this post has NOTHING against state police, this is not meant to be bad or anything just an honest question.

If your a local / town / city cop you spend a lot of your time running calls, disputes, domestics, robberies etc, whatever is happening in town is your own problem.

But at the state level, and this is just coming from a non-LEO perspective, I never see them, ever, unless it’s just sitting by a random highway all day.

As a city cop it seems like you get “diversity” and something new every day. But the stateys whole world is just running radar looking for people going 85 in a 65 for 8 hours a day.

I’m sure they do more then that, but is the job way different then local?

Discussion - Motor Longevity

Hey all, let’s just jump into it, and if any of this info is wrong please correct me, this is just what I’ve read.

Everyone says Hyundai motors blow up, in particular the Theta 2 used in tons and tons of different cars.

The N motors are also Theta 2s, however they are “upgraded” or more “heavy-duty” than the standard versions.

From everything I’ve heard, the issue with the motors came down to bad quality control and manufacturing at the Alabama USA Motor plant which built these things , and it started in like 2013 over a decade ago and went on for years.

With that said, it’s not 2013 anymore, it’s 2026. Additionally the N motors are not made in the Alabama plant, they are made in South Korea at a completely different facility.

With that in mind, are the N motors exempt from all of the issues that happened to the other or earlier Theta 2s? Are the N motors still time bombs?

Do Kia & Hyundai mechanics enjoy the work?

I don’t know the answer, just asking.

Its no secret that Kia & Hyundais run through motors like its going out of style, this isn’t a post to bash the brand, just speaking facts.

But ive been told that an experienced Hyundai mechanic can do an entire motor swap in about 4 hours, you drop the engine out the bottom on the lift and throw the new one in.

I mean that’s almost fast enough to have a break room “waiter” customer for a full engine replacement.

Meanwhile if you need to do a head gasket on a new Honda the shop quotes 12-14 hours labor…. Literally easier to swap an entire motor then just do a head gasket.

Seems like a lot less BS or Diag or replacing random odds and ends.. they just replace the entire long block and move onto the next one

Real Review - VenaSeal SSV Closure

I decided to post this because when I was initially looking around months ago I found very few patient reviews of my specific procedure.

Bear in mind this experience is mine alone and results may vary.

*Pre-Op Symptoms: Swelling, Pain, 4.0s reflux
*Procedure: VenaSeal Closure of left SSV
*Performed by: Vascular Surgeon at local hospital
*Methods Discussed: VenaSeal or RFA Ablation

Personal Determination: VenaSeal

Thought Process: VenaSeal is very “non-invasive”, what I mean by that is simply the lack of heat or any real injury or trauma, additionally the risk of nerve damage along the SSV is minimized again due to lack of heat.

My surgeon also recommended VenaSeal, stating that they would be able to treat a longer portion of the SSV than they could with RFA, again due to nerve risks the farther down the leg you go.

Arrived at hospital waiting room at 10:00am, at 10:40 I was already done and walking out the door. The procedure was non-eventful, a single numbing poke and then typical ultrasound activities and you’re done.

I left the hospital with a bare leg, no wraps, no compression socks, nothing. My release paperwork explicitly stated that post-op compression socks are voluntary. The leg fix was immediate, basically like someone waved a magic wand and said you’re good to go and I could throw my socks in the trash if I wanted to.

Post-Op was uneventful, no allergic reaction occurred, and I didn’t even need to take ibuprofen; I just went back to normal life.

I can now go full days of 8+ hours without compression socks and with no leg pain. However personally i am still going to wear compression socks around the house and when i wear pants just as a preventative voluntary measure.

For those thinking about getting a procedure done, don’t get scared off by all the horror stories you read here and other places, for every horror story there’s likely 1,000 success stories that no one ever talks about.

What’s your dealership experience?

So quick back story.

This car is my daily driver, I **need** the car every single day, I do not have a backup or second car.

Prior to this I owned a Honda and the Honda dealership was fantastic, most if not all parts I ever needed were in stock, I got a loaner car from the dealer literally 100% of the time for any overnight or longer repairs, I really couldn’t ask for more.

I’m seeing a bunch of people talk about Hyundai and effectively saying even if the warranty is good on paper, your actual experience will suck.

For example a lot of parts are back ordered, and even if the warranty work is approved, it will still take 2+ months to get the replacement parts you need?

I’ve also heard that Hyundai almost never gives loaner cars and basically just tells you to F yourself…

So if your car is in the shop waiting on parts for 2 months what are you supposed to do? Pay $50 a day for a rental for months straight? This seems absolutely absurd

What’s the actual experience here?

APP3…. What happened?

I’ve owned the OG Long stem AirPods, then bought the AirPod Pros, then I got the Pro 2s which I’ve had literally for years and loved them in all scenarios.

Saw the APP3 on sale for $179 and figured “why not” it’s cheap and it’s newer and better!

Well… They don’t just “pop” into my ears like the APP2 does, it takes deliberate action to seat them in my ears, I’ve found even with the smaller-than-default eartips they hurt my ears.

The bass seemed more prevalent, but almost in a fake or over boosted way…..

I took a 6 hour plane ride today and for the first 4 hours I wore my new APP3s in noise cancelling mode and everything was “fine”, but then for the final 2 hours of the flight I put them away and threw in my APP2s for a direct comparison and immediately felt right at home, to the point that I wanna return my 3s

I know I can’t be the only one right?

Did people born before Christ automatically go to hell?

Sooooo, hi Reddit…

If humans as a species have been around for millions of years, and our direct ancestors are at least 300,000 years old…. What happened to them after death?

From what I’m gathering, Islam has been around for 1,400 years…. Christianity has been around for at least 2026 years (BC/AD)

Meaning all major religions came about eons AFTER humans already had existed for hundreds of generations of individuals.

Is the Elantra N the modern day SRT4?

Probably dating myself here, but back in the day I owned a Dodge SRT4… IYKYK… Crank windows in the back, total plastic shit box, but fast and fun, seems the EN may be the modern day SRT4?

I’m looking into buying a 26 6MT model but I’m not a young buck anymore (pushing 40 years old) and wondering if the EN may be “too much” for my now more mature grandpa self.

I now spend my weekends cutting the grass, not working in the garage and straight piping my cars anymore.

Any older drivers here? How’s the ride?

Looking into this or a ‘26 WRX Limited 6MT that is a little more “grown up” while still being fun.

What age are we starting “drop & run” for parties or friend get together etc?

My kids are in elementary school, whenever we get invited to random classmate birthday parties or other events it seems to be a large crowd of parents hanging around.

I went to one awhile back and honestly it was super awkward for me, I didn’t know anyone at all and basically just stood around or made very random small talk with strangers until it was time to leave.

At what age are people starting to just “drop & run” and come pick the kids up after the party is over? Bearing in mind our kids do not have cellphones or any way to directly communicate as they are still in the younger years.

Hit me with the truth… it’s not going to get better, is it ?

Every year inflation goes up, if you’re lucky you get your 2-3% yearly raise which doesn’t even cover the inflation.

People used to be able to buy cars, houses, really anything, cheap. And I’m not even talking about “back in the day” I mean like 2018, not 1995.

So every year your dollar gets less valuable, you buy less with it and you softly get squeezed more and more.

The two noticeable items I see a lot of is lack of purchasing power for a house, but not even just that, even stuff like cars, a lot of people are not buying new cars anymore and are instead fixing up what they got - things are getting tighter.

The thing is I feel like it’s kinda like a frog in boiling water situation…. At first you’re just hanging out and everything is fine and then by the time you realize something is wrong, you’re totally screwed at that point and it’s game over.

I should expect this to just continue getting worse in the future, correct?

Meaning I better start working to either get a promotion or find a new company or job and just hope that raises will keep me above ground while the plane continues dropping out of the sky. But sitting still and just “enjoying life” is not really a feasible option.

Do you want to stay in patrol?

I understand that policing is not like the corporate world in which everyone just tries to climb the ladder… first you get in, then aspire to be a manager, then a director, then a VP etc the list goes on.

I see / hear about some people who have been officers for 20+ years and are still just officer…. Not corporal, not Sgt, not Chief etc

We have a family friend who had the chance to go from regular patrol and move into a detective spot and he turned it down because he liked patrol.

I guess it’s a “passion” thing in which they like what they do and don’t want to move up into admin or hanging around the department all day.

Is this typical behavior in the force?

Why are “Virtual ERs” a thing now ?

I’ve seen telehealth / remote / virtual PCP doctor visits

I’ve seen virtual urgent care clinic visits

Now our town has a “Virtual ER”

Not trying to state the obvious, but if it’s something that can be handled from a FaceTime call, it’s probably not a medical emergency, right ?

I know a couple ED Nurses and they always talk about how people flood the ER with minor things that could wait for a PCP or standard urgent care, this just seems like a way to make the problem even worse?

Can the Sheriff really make anyone a deputy?

Prolly a silly question, but in my state you have the state run police academy, along with credentials or “certification” that says XYZ person is a certified police officer.

If you lose this certification you typically lose your job if your town / local or whatever, this is my understanding.

However the Sheriff specifically can “deputize” someone and they magically become a police officer? Is this real?

I know it would never happen in a million years but technically for arguments sake, a sheriff could walk into a TGI Fridays and go out back and deputize the line cook and just like that he’s now a cop in the eyes of the law ?

Are permanent AirPods now becoming a thing?

I didn’t realize this was actually a thing with some people until recently. But apparently some individuals wear AirPods effectively all day long even when not listening to music?

Like they wake up, get out of bed and put AirPods in, and then keep em there all day.

What’s the purpose of this? To get hands free notification announcements or something ?

Why are blue collar roles getting such a surge in envy and popularity?

Seen it a million times… corporate bros saying they wish they went into the trades, should a done this, shoulda done that… this corporate grind is the worst!

People have / are starting to envy or dream about blue collar jobs.

I’ll be frank, I work a corporate job, WFH FT, 6 figure income. I can spend half my work day mowing the yard or sitting on my patio with a laptop looking at outlook emails and watching birds fly around.

My neighbor who’s an electrician, leaves the house at 6am every morning and comes home between 5-6 at night, that’s Monday through Friday and sometimes he also works half-days on Saturday.

I’m talking literal 50-60 hour weeks if not more - outdoors or indoors, rain or shine.

Is this what people are now aspiring for?

I understand people saying blue collar is the future because of Ai, but at the same time I also don’t see the worlds billionaires and millionaires sending their kids to trade school , they are still going into Ivy League schools and working in finance or corporate based roles - if the worlds elites thought trades were the path forward, I figured they would jump on it.

Do “luxury” items mean anything to you ?

I grew up in a “well off” family, I remember a revolving door of brand new Porsches, Mercedes and Audis coming through the garage for my parents.

The Audi had a oil leak within 1000 miles, the Mercedes drove around with the check engine light on basically permanently, and the Porsches transmission would act up occasionally - all brand new cars with less then 5,000 miles on them.

Eventually I grew up, bought a Honda and did nothing but tires and fluids for 120,000+ miles with no problem.

Whenever someone says “wow look at that car!” And it’s some luxury brand all I think to myself is I bet that things a total unreliable POS - I have zero envy whatsoever.

I hear people boast about Coach or LV purses or wallets and I look at the one I got on Amazon for $35 that’s been great for over 5+ years

Moral of the Story is I think a lot of society has extreme envy for the “rich and lavish” material possessions or assumes if you have them your a better person then most - but I don’t feel that way whatsoever and at times even think it’s likely dumb or unwise to even of bought whatever XYZ thing they have.

Anyone else have similar general thoughts ?

Coming from a non-harley guy… what’s it like riding one?

I remember a couple years ago, my baby squid self was rolling around on a Ninja 400. During one of my nights out I somehow ended up racing a Harley and I remember pulling away from him rather quick.

This blew my mind cause I thought to myself damn I’m only on a 400 and it’s already faster than a Harley.

I’ve never ridden a Harley or giant cruiser at all, but often times when I picture what it’s like, I just picture slamming the throttle down and literally nothing happens, like it’s almost dangerously slow.

I get it… rolling couch… chilling out… the whole 9, don’t gotta tell me twice about that… but like… how does it merge into traffic and other very routine daily activities ?

Don’t know, just asking, but how did Epstein even get arrested in the first place?

I have no idea folks, just asking a question.

But if this dude basically had half of the worlds elites and government by the balls, to the point that a POTUS, a Prince or royalty and XYZ other hundreds of billionaires are implicated… how did this dude even get jammed up in the first place?

It seems like once you’re at a level of magnitude your basically untouchable… like any case would just magically disappear or quietly be dismissed

How did this even come around? A random cop somewhere just decided to go poking around and no one said stop it ?
