I’ve been subbing for close to ten years, ask me anything!

I know there’s a lot of new subs here! I’ve been subbing off and on since 2018, and I’ve worked in three different states. I’ve subbed every grade from pre-k up to high school. I’m happy to help ease anxieties or answer questions about different classes.

I got a solid 45 minutes to myself today

I am a stay at home mom to an 8 month old baby girl. Staying at home is a fairly new thing. I worked for the first six months after she was born due to our financial situation. My husband is newly employed and works from home. I love my husband. He is an amazing dad and spouse. But he can be so inconsiderate and he doesn’t even realize how it affects me. Mondays are “going out” day for me and baby. We went to a craft store and the mall. We got back around 4. I was hot and sweaty and exhausted. My car doesn’t have working AC, and I had been dealing with an overstimulated baby who needed a nap. My husband is off work at 4 and he usually takes over so that I can have a break for an hour. Today he decided to go get food after getting off, but he was gone for an HOUR AND A HALF. He said he needed time to decompress from the work day and eat his dinner. Meanwhile I was trying to wrangle an overtired angry crocodile, I’m on my period, and I hadn’t had time to pee or eat. After he got back, he wanted to take the dog out so that we could celebrate his birthday. Baby was beyond done and was screaming. We are currently living with his parents, and he decided that he wanted to take the dog for a walk. I hadn’t had a single minute to myself all day, and I just wanted to go out for a run. Hubs mom graciously took the baby so that I could get out. Meanwhile, husband was still not back when I got back, baby was tired, wet and needed to be fed, and it all landed on me. I’m beyond irritated and it’s taking everything in me not to lash out at him for being an
Inconsiderate AH all day.

Anybody remember when the Rodlets scaled a historic wall?

Could someone share the post/video? All I remember is that they were at a national park (I think) and the NimRods scaled a historic wall and got reported.

Question about Xana

Why did she run towards her room when she and perp ran into each other? Wouldn’t your natural inclination be to run outside and get help? And what was her timeline?

Is my baby overweight? :(

We took our daughter to the urgent care today and she is 21 pounds at 7 months. She just turned seven months on June 26th. I’m trying not to worry because I know that as soon as she starts crawling, she will lose weight. But my husband and I are both obese and I’m worried that our genetic predisposition towards being heavier is carrying onto her.

My mom doesn’t come to see my baby

Our baby girl is 7 months old. We lived in another state when I gave birth, and my mom visited twice, once when I had her and once for her baptism. She begged us to come home and said that she was being robbed of time with her grandbaby. We were forced to move back to our home state due to financial reasons, and I thought that she would visit all the time. We are living with my husband’s parents right now and live about 50 minutes from my mom. We’ve been back in our home state for two months and she hasn’t visited once. The last time we saw my mom was 4th of July after not seeing her for nearly a month and a half. She reached for my daughter and my daughter started crying and acting like she didn’t want to be held by my mom. My mom acted offended, but what could she expect when she doesn’t make time for her? I laughed internally, which I know wasn’t kind, but I really hope that it showed her that she has to make time for her grandkids.

Help! Trying to find an obscure post here

Someone posted here about a British show that was “underrated” or that people were sleeping on it, and posted a screenshot of the show. It was a response to someone else and I can’t find it! I think the show starred a man? Any help would be appreciated. I tried checking my history but it wouldn’t go far enough back and this was around 7 this morning.

Recs for period dramas like Downtown Abbey please!

Hey all! I am a huge historical costumes/period drama nerd and I love shows with a rich storyline.
Shows I’ve seen:
Guilded Age
Downton Abbey
Lark Rise to Candleford
Poldark
Outlander
The Other Bennet Sister
Little Women miniseries
Basically I’ve seen all of the new ones! If you could recommend any obscure ones, including those with subtitles, I’d appreciate it :)

Developers Menu-What am I doing wrong?

Hey all. I’m trying to figure out the developers menu for HAU. There’s a few puzzles that I struggle with (bodrhain, darts) and I’d like to skip them if I can. I thought I was doing the steps correctly but every time I double click on the activity and hit save, nothing happens. Any advice?

My ND Game Rankings

I’m old school (and just plain old) but there are a few of the newer games that I love ❤️

This is the LAST time that I play ICE

I genuinely loathe this game between Fox & Geese, cooking/cleaning, and chasing the culprit at the end. I just spent three hours trying to beat Fox and Geese 😡😡😡😡

What are my chances of being called as an over hire?

I’ve worked with my wardrobe local previously for a couple years (pretty much right after Covid) and the list wasn’t terribly long. I loved working with them but we moved to a different city and were gone for two years. Before we moved I was on the third list. We moved back and I asked to be put back on. I’m pretty bummed because the list is now much lengthier than it was when I left two years ago. And I’m back at the bottom. Do I have any leg up since I’ve worked for the key/with the locals? Or should I just prepare to not be called for a while?

Baby laughed for the first time…and it wasn’t for us

Our baby girl is 6 months and is the apple of our eye. I’ve been a little worried because I haven’t been able to get her to laugh, despite singing, raspberries, goofy noises and the most insane faces I could make. I’ve gotten polite half chuckles, but no belly laughter. My father in law got her to laugh!! Like deep belly laughter almost to screaming. I was happy and sad at the same time. Is this anyone else’s experience?? 😭

Which of the older games (before Crystal Skull) are your favorites? Personally mine is “Stay Tuned for Danger”

I know the game is incredibly dated (floppy disks, landlines and briefcases, oh my), but there’s something about the atmosphere of it that continually draws me back. The soundtrack, especially, constantly gets stuck in my head. Anyone else?

Struggling with long term position (1st grade)

Hey all! I picked up a last minute long term position for 1st grade. It’s actually only about 3 1/2 weeks in total, but the kids are having a hard time adjusting. Their teacher is out on last minute maternity leave. While I am good at classroom maintenance and I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve, the kids are taking advantage of my ignorance and doing small but obnoxious things like requesting breaks (only one kid is supposed to get breaks, now I know this 🙈), bringing stuffed animals to school (not supposed to be a thing), and all asking to sharpen pencils at once (apparently the teacher only sharpens). I’m also struggling with the stress of math, teaching it (things are soooo different now then when I was in school) and keeping up the pace/making sure everything gets done in the 50 minute math window. I have really great co-teachers and admin that have been supportive and super hands on, but does anyone have advice?

5 month old baby girl is getting her first tooth on the top middle. I felt it today when I was feeding her baby food. She hasn’t been super fussy, but she has been drooling and putting everything in her mouth. What do I need to know/do as a first time momma? Also feeling allll the feels and trying not to panic, because I feel like she’s growing so fast.
