I'm 6 weeks into a new job where I've become the defacto lathe department head and had to build documentation, fix programs and drawings, establish procedures, and rework tooling and jobs from scratch. All this despite having like maybe 2 years of experience off and on with a broad but not very deep understanding of machining, gcode, and surrounding processes (heat treat, milling, lathes, edm, qc, deburring, etc.).

Had a chat today with my manager about how I'm not learning fast enough, though no solutions to such were presented other than "listen to what's good and use that to listen for when it's bad" which isn't helpful when i don't have a baseline of what's good and generally have bad hearing anyway. Any advice?

I just took my CRZ on a 2750 mile road trip across the US, very much laden beyond the rated cargo capacity, and it took a serious toll on the suspension. Specifically, the rear torsion beam front mount bushings and the front control arm bushings went from bad to dead, among other issues. I'd rather not buy whole new control arms and a torsion beam if I can help it. Can I just buy a set of poly bushings somewhere? Or am I gonna have to custom fab those like I have everything else on this car?

I've been a diehard 40mm fangirl most of my career, and I still stand by that for most forms of photography. My Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 and TTartisan 40mm F2 AF have been my go-to for years, and for many things they are still ideal. My Aires H Coral 45mm f1.9 has some of the best rendering of any lens I've used. 50mm always felt too tight.

However, I won a Tamron F053 35mm F2.8 M1:2 accidentally on eBay about a year ago. I put a lowball bid on it, forgot about it, and woke up to a notification that it was mine a week later. It's been my most-used lens ever since.

Initially I didn't know what to do with it. It felt too wide, but using crop mode on my A7R4 felt too close to 50mm which i already had a nice one of. It was better than my 28 at the time, which was a Sigma zoom, but it ended up being an ideal hiking lens. It's so light and compact that it made carrying it while scaling rocks easy, and it helped me capture some of my best landscape photos up to that point.

The real game changer for me was the 1:2 macro capability. I quickly found myself using it instead of my 100mm macro because it handles distortion really well and compacted my product photography studio setup substantially, giving me low distortion full coverage of my 16" lightbox while easily switching to close up detail work without moving the camera.

What truly surprised me is the resolving power. Very few lenses are properly sharp on my A7R4's 61MP sensor, and I did not expect a budget featherweight to fare much better. But, sure enough, at F5.6 it's incredibly sharp and crisp, and honestly lets me see details that I can't see with my eyes without needing to break out the big proper Minolta 1:1 100mm macro. I often find myself increasing contrast slightly, but even wide open it's reasonably sharp with beautiful fall-off. It's no Zeiss, but for the price I've yet to see anything come close.

I never thought a 35mm would win me over, let alone a budget Tamron I bought by accident, but here we are.

It's mostly listed as a full frame 10mm f2.8, but it also comes in GFX and says it's medium format, which tells me it might actually cover the sensor. If so that's easily the widest GFX lens available, but I can't find any sample images of this lens taken with a GFX. I can't imagine the edges are sharp, and I'm guessing it probably vignettes unless you use it in FF mode, but this could be a really interesting bit of kit if it works properly...

So I have this 1980 10/22 that I stripped of all character (the wood stock) and turned into a bullpup as God intended, and added various other things like a longer mag release, an FRT, BX trigger (soon, so the trigger feel isnt complete trash), etc.

I have a second DIY 10/22 reciever that I eventually wanna turn into a Black Walnut pistol, mostly because it looks neat and partially because I only have 1 other 22lr pistol, a Beretta u22 Neos.

But, I'm really into long range precision along with tinkering, so I'm kinda considering grabbing a brand new 10/22 and building it out into a 50 or 100 yard precision rifle to sorta compliment my Sako S20 Hybrid. The formula for such seems pretty simple, but I'm not sure if I really need 3 of the same thing when I can pretty easily just swap parts around. I just don't know if a 46 year old reciever is much different from a brand new one, or if it's worth getting a brand new one if I'm gonna throw away most of the parts anyway. Budget is largely a non-issue but keeping it under $1300 would be nice lol Hoping y'all can help steer me in the right direction here!

I was surprised to learn that the average spending for a family of four is currently around $1,430/mo. I spend about $50/wk/person on groceries, so extrapolating I'm at $800/mo or so. I literally just buy store brand (mostly), non-organic stuff, and cook a lot, saving ingredients for other meals and eating leftovers. Even if i got frozen meals for every person and meal for a month it still wouldn't cost that much (~$1080/mo).

I'm guessing a lot of people buy familiar name brands rather than relying strictly on store brands. I'm further guessing people purchase more pre-chopped vegetables, ready-to-eat snacks, and convenience foods rather than raw ingredients to make such. But, y'all would know better than I would, so I wanna hear what you typically pay and what you buy!

I'm in a bus

Hi all! I'm new to .22lr as well as the 10/22. 2 days after purchasing a pre-2006 10/22 for $130, I took it shooting. in 200 rounds of federal automatch, I had 2 stovepipes and what initially seemed like a squib: pulled trigger, quiet pop, smoke everywhere around the action, no new hole in the target, casing didn't extract. I assumed I needed a new barrel, but after getting it home i used my brass cleaning rod to find where the squib was only to find no obstruction. In fact, the chambered round literally just pushed out with the brass rod, no mallet required. it looks like the firing pin didn't even touch the rim!

how would it smoke like it did if it didn't even hit the thing? Why wouldn't it eject? Is this still safe to shoot? Do I need to repair anything?
