The term Indie Animation has lost all the meaning that it's words would otherwise be defined as. Just like in music with Indie Rock. Both are now genre terms. Let me explain.

A long time ago the term Indie Rock meant bands who were unsigned. Poor. Printing their own CD's, making their own posters. Trying to get their friends to show up at shows. Trying to cobble together a tour of a few cities, barely affording gas money and couch surfing to get by.

But as the years went on, a bunch got signed, sometimes to so called indie labels which where then themselves purchased by the big corps, such that now the term Indie Rock is actually just a genre term for a certain sound and/or aesthetic. These bands have budgets rivaling any Billie Eilish or Travis Scott.

But there are still actually indie bands out there. We dont see or talk about most of them because they are tiny and seemingly insignificant.

Nevertheless, this strikes me as an absurdity, and Indie Animation is the same. Budgets for so called Indies like Glitch and Vivziepop run between 200k-1M USD per episode. This type of budget rivals any of the major studios, so for me it sort of makes the term itself more of a genre term here as well. Indie means what? Independent from what? Corporate control? These entities have become their own corporate heavyweights. So then is the definition of Indie now that it must be a corporate entity that only focuses on one brand instead of many?

For me, that college kid who with the help of a couple of people scraped together a little cartoon is indie. Jarrad Wright is indie. Meatcanyon is indie. Andrew Horowitz, etc. I feel like once you are a corp employing hundreds of people it has stretched the idea of indie beyond any reasonable definition and has become strictly a genre term.

Ami out of touch? Or is it the children who are wrong?

I used Inkarnate to build a world map, then animated the map into my indie series called HARE.

Not gonna brag on the map's complexity or anything as its pretty simple, but it does convey the world and I think it works to help the viewer see how it works with the plot.

Here's my original hand drawn map (Its bad): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r8LlI3M25VawyfUwMPwCnug3oJzMfHKQ/view?usp=sharing

Here's the one I built in Inkarnate: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e-EIvWIAWaA1r1bh4EIKmoPpANaQrUxy/view?usp=sharing

You will see I added some colour correction and effects in Davinci to help it live in the scene better. Then I added some animation from the character's hand.

I thought this was kind of a cool way to do it rather than actually drawing and colouring the map into the scene with traditional animation and this will allow me to update the map in future episodes as the world changes. Btw, if you like building maps, Inkarnate is just a cool website to play with in general as they have assets for basically every fantasy niche.

For anyone interested this is from my indie animated series called HARE which you can watch on Youtube now. Here's the official playlist:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnoijEWWcl0&list=PL2Q5Ujxx572MKTeniMmvp_vgXK8wO0uup&pp=0gcJCf8COCosWNinsAgC

Mods always want extra context here, so here's a better description of the world itself: HARE follows a world of hares and hogs that have been at war now for generations. The hogs used to be a benevolent raise, but an internal war divided them and the evil side one, plunging the world into darkness. The hares are essentially nomads. Guerilla fighters. They live in the woods.

The hogs are led by one called The Leader and his right hand man, The Doctor. The Doctor is effectively the general in charge of all the military, but is himself a scientist who developed the superweapon that won them the war. It was in these experiments to create superweapons that Unit-27 was created and then lost during an attack on the labratory by the hares in the middle of the night.

Submithub and Playlistpush are legit. Yougrow is a scam. Fake streams basically.

I have used playlisting pretty extensively over the last couple years. They are all difficult but the playlist and resulting streams from submithub, groover and playlistpush are all legit and useful to trigger algo growth on spotify.

Yougrow, on the other hand, is basically empty stream. not sure if botted, but just as empty. zero engagement from thousands of streams.

Definitely recommend staying away from them.

i would put playlistpush at the top pound for pound. but it could be genre dependant too.

just my two cents.

Bloody Hare Studio - Holy Holy Holy [Reggae/Metal] [2026]

Hope i don’t get perma banned. here is a video we shot yesterday. Nikon ZR + Mantis 35mm anamorphic lens. We used mostly just rear lighting and smoke. most shots are locked off on a tripod, though the moving shots are locked off by duck taping the tripod to a cart while pushing it around.

This is one of the songs from the soundtrack to my animated series called HARE.

Why do the fish on Glenmore swim against traffic?

Was it a clerical error that happened and it was just too late to change it once work started?

or does it intentionally signify something?

Chapter Two - The World of War.

The boy remembered this part best, the way she told it low so the little ones wouldn’t wake. How the new Leader, losing his war, sent troops into all four corners of the earth to chase down any rumor that might turn the tide.

How they came at last to a small village at the foot of the Great Grandfather Mountains — mountains so old the word old barely fit them — where a set of deep caves ran under the stone and branched off into darkness at a hundred forgotten points.

The locals knew never to go inside. Not because a body could get lost down there, though it could, but because something lived in the deep. Something unearthly. Something that had driven their ancestors mad. And that was exactly what sent the soldiers in. Almost none came back.

Weeks later a second party found one lone figure hobbling through a village while the people screamed PLAGUE and barred their doors — a thing that had once been a Noble Hog, skin gone from pink to sickly green and near black, hair fallen out, sores weeping down its body, hands clasped tight around something it would not release.

It dropped to its knees and whispered, it’s inside, inside, and then whatever was left of it simply expired, folding to the ground as if it were made of paper. When the captain pried the dead fingers open with his rifle, he found a small growth — fungal, but more alien than any fungus, a jet-black fruiting body with fluorescent yellow tendrils that reached and
