Migrated from Verizon today and ported my lines. One device has two lines with two different area codes.

Primary data line was set to an area code 1200 miles away

Noticed I had half a bar of signal and was dropping data connections.

I enabled local data switching with the other line that has a local area code and all of a sudden I was getting full bars

Coincidence?

After 20+ years with Verizon, I’m at the point where it doesn’t make sense not to change carriers

I have 10 lines consisting of five phones, including 1 with a second line, 2 iPads and 2 iWatches

Was paying around $360 a month that included $45 I in device payments and $10 for Apple Music. Included $65 in monthly bill credits for loyalty. Those expired and now at $425 a month. 2 phones and 1 watch account for ~$2000 in subsidized device payments.

Chatted with Verizon about what can be done to lower the bill and the only option given was to add yet another line, change a plan would would get a $400/36 month credit for the new line and a $270 rebate. Was told would be $318 a month at that point. Received an SMS link for the new order showing around $380/mo. Can only assume the chat agent gets a spiff for adding lines.

Looked at other carriers and T-Mobile seems to fit the bill because I already have a work device on T-Mobile that from my experience has same quality as Verizon - ie I’ve never had any issues with speed or access.
T-Mobile seems to have towers closer to my home and office. Per Reddit also better European coverage, which I use occasionally.

Chatted with T-Mobile;

They’ll pay off the two phones which comes out to about $1450.
Will receive four $400 gift cards as rebates
Will receive four $100 gift cards as rebates for watches and iPads
I’ll just pay off the $600 owed on the watch myself

6 phone lines $246.50 a month and then $10 each for the iPads and watches so $286.56. Will have $2000 in my pocket minus the $600 for watch. But then own every single one of my devices and get out of the subsidized cycle if I want.

What am I missing here? Really haven’t had any issues with Verizon, but looking at a $3000 swing plus ~$100 a month savings.
