Has modding led anyone else down other rabbit holes?

One of the reasons I started building my own watches, was to gain some experience and knowledge, learn some skills, and to get a bit of confidence in working with watches and small parts.

I love vintage skindivers, but it can be hard to get local repair shops to work on them, due to parts supply issues, and because a lot of the watches aren't necessarily valuable. Now that I've built a few, I've started working on my first restoration.

I own a vintage Douglas Skindiver Worldtimer, which needs some work to get it running sweetly. I've picked up a donor watch today, and thought I'd spend an hour cleaning it up, before I start looking at the movement and swapping parts over. I spent an hour cleaning the crystal, and repainting the bezel tonight, definitely not something I'd have been doing if I hadn't started building. The plan is to get mine up and running, but I think I'll try to get the donor going also, instead of moving it on for parts. I think bringing one back to life, is just as rewarding as building your own.

Anyone else gone down this route?

Recently bought a watch (bottom pic) .The watch is running, power reserve seems good, but it's losing a lot of time over its wound cycle. Having trouble finding anyone local to work on it for me, mostly due to parts. So I've bought another movement as a donor, stating it has a broken ballbone shaft (Google translated), so not sure about that part.

Should I be good to go with this?

This one's probably seen a few good adventures in around 60 years. Today it starts a new one with me.
