Sanity check sizing and components for off-grid solar system - Australia (QLD)

Hi Folks,

Wanted to get some advice and assistance in sanity checking my draft setup. I am looking to construct a fully off-grid solar/battery system.

I currently use around 14kWh on average per day and am likely to increase this to 20kWh with the addition of another split system heater/ac in the office.

Absolute worse case peak load I could foresee (and it would be extemely unlikely) would be:

1-2 x 1kW water pumps
2 x 2.4kW split system
1 x 1.5kW washing machine
2 x 30W monitors
2 x laptops (200W peak power consumption)
lights (50W)
1 x microwave (1kW)
1 x vaccum (1kW)
1 x power tool (1kW)

= ~12kW peak load

Again, all these things on at once and pulling peak power would likely never occur but want to be safe rather than sorry. The system I have in mind is below:

2 x 16kWh LiFePO4 batteries (48V (51.2V) 314Ah/48V(51.2V)300Ah) - humsienk
1 x 10.2 kW all-in-one PowMr solar inverter (PowMr 10200W 48V Hybrid Solar Inverter Charger MPPT 160A Sine Wave Controller)

10kW panels (can source at a range of wattages)

The solar inverter has a max VDC 500 and 18A load.

If I get between 4-5 peak sun-hours a day, and assuming even power usage across the day, do you believe this system could suppor the demand and charge batteries for usage throughout the night. It all seems reasonably sensible to me but I have been going over so many details for a while and have a bit of face blindness to it all. Am I being incredibly stupid and missing something obvious?

Possible African Big Headed Ants?

Hi folks,

Found these little fellas cleaning up a dead bug today along the drive. I took note of the large red headed ones which looked cool as hell, but upon research, looks like they might be the highly invasive and damaging African Big Headed ant. Looking for any guidance?

I have a lot of native fauna and flora around I am keen to protect (live near National park), so if it is, might have to try and sort the buggers.

Off-grid rain water system - biofilm/mould - how to treat?

Hi all, Australian-based (Queensland) off-gridder here. My recently purchased property has a long standing/sitting off-grid rainwater system (roof catchment, ~8k litre tank and constant pressure pump pushing into house through blue line (metric) poly pipe (25mm). I designed and built a whole house water filter/treatment system (spin down + three stage filter + UV) along with a brand new non leaky pump. I have just got the tank cleaned and had fresh rain to top the tank up so have a nice full load. Was in the process of plumbing in the new system and when opening the pipe that supplies the house (which would be downline from the filter system) I have found that the internal pipe walls are pretty much black with biofilm and/or mould and smelling them gives a clear moudly smell.

Now... I obviously did not install the filter system as it would just be sending clean water to be recontamintated by the dirty pipes. My question is how to best tackle this? I want to clean/sanitise the pipe system so that I can be confident the water heading into the house is potable. Surprisingly, it all comes out the taps looking clear unless left sitting for a few days. I have been reading a lot and trying to figure out how to approach it and the two main themes seem to be hydrogen peroxide or bleach system shocking. Has anyone dealt with this issue and know of a reasonable way to do it assuming I can't rip out the pipes and can only access the system from the pipe discussed above as the rest is either in walls or buried.

Any advice would be grealy appreciated.

My indie game got its first YouTube video feature. Yay!

Didn’t really have anywhere to share IRL but wanted to share somewhere as it has made my week. My game got its first YouTube video feature by Beef Gravy Studios, arguably the most wholesome channel I have seen in a long while. They were incredibly kind and entertaining. It is incredibly motivating seeing someone enjoy a game you have worked so hard on. Massive shout out to Beef Gravy and Lil Biscuit.

It is happening again...

Hi folks,

Some of you may remember my post the other day where I discussed my account getting perma banned after 24 hours and uploading of three game dev related shorts that had 0 views/impression after like 18 hours. Well, I have created a new account with my other email and whilst I have not been banned, I am unable to follow anyone or comment/like as none of these actions persist upon page refresh. My single uploaded video (demo trailer) is sitting at 0 again after 14 hours. I would love if anyone had the time if they could see if it even shows up for them if searched? My tiktok account is Chubby.Weevil. I want to upload another clip today but am hesitant as don't want to get permanently banned again or flagged as spamming :(

Spiky Spider - Fraser Coast, Queensland

Found this amazing spider a little while back in Fraser Coast. I believe it is an orb weaver. Closest match I could find on Wikipedia is a Hortophora Tatianeae. Could be wrong through! Was super cool, albeit slightly unsettlin.

Fruit Fetish - Demo on Steam - Hungry for Feedback!!!

Game Title: Fruit Fetish

Playable Link: Steam demo -  https://store.steampowered.com/app/4376740/Fruit_Fetish/

Hi folks,

Chubby Weevil here, Australia-based solo developer (Godot) for my soon to be released active incremental game, Fruit Fetish. I am participating in Next Fest and am very keen for as much user feedback as possible so that I can integrate any commonly requested features into the main release. I have had some great feedback so far from the Reddit community which has been really helpful, but I am thirsty for more!

Game overview: Fruit Fetish is an active incremental, satirical piss take on corporate culture told through a combination of crude humour and disarmingly cute pixel art style. The central game premise revolves around working to earn Fetish Fruit Co. a billion dollars to buy your freedom. You do this by playing as Pearsly, a purpose-grown, dim-witted pear, who needs to manage the latest established store/franchise, which specialises in selling beverages made from Fetish Fruit, genetically modified self-aware fruit that love nothing more than being consumed.

The core gameplay loop has you working against the clock to harvest, prepare, cook and sell Fetish Fruit to hungry hordes of customers. You can then reinvest the store earnings into genetic enhancements and shop upgrades to optimise your cash intake in a satisfying incremental fashion. All the while learning more about the ethically/morally questionable world you find yourself in.

Best,

Chubby Weevil

AI disclosure: I don’t utilise any form of gen AI in my development or creative process. All art, code and design is my own. I created the majority of the SFX in the game but I do use a couple from Pixabay.

Created my first account yesterday so I could upload some indie dev related shorts to share. The three shorts I uploaded got 0 views or inpressions in 24 hours. So I upload one more short today and my account gets permanently banned… what the actual fck… is this normal?

Fruit Fetish demo now live on Steam - Active incremental game

Hello lovely people,

I am excited to announce that the demo for my game, Fruit Fetish, which was developed in Godot, has just gone live on Steam ready for Next Fest. I put together a new trailer to go along with the demo so check em out! Would love to hear your thoughts/feedback.

Steam link: store.steampowered.com/app/4376740/Fruit_Fetish/

Fruit Fetish is an active incremental where you take the role of Pearsly, a slightly dim-witted genetically engineered pear who has been created with the sole purpose of making Fetish Fruit Co. another billion dollars in their latest franchise. The main gameplay loop revolves around working against the clock to harvest, prepare and serve a growing horde of hungry customers Fetish Fruit, which are genetically modified self-aware fruits that love nothing more than being devoured.

As you earn money, you can reinvest it into genetic enhancements and shop upgrades to further optimise your ability to make bank. The game explores a range of existential themes using satire, crude humour and a cute/comfy pixel art style.

Please download and give it a shot. If you enjoy it, please wishlist as it helps a lot and this will let you know when the game releases, which will be soon.

I will also be running a little competition for players with the winner being able to have their own personal unlockable Pearsly costume in the game, but more details on that later.

Adorable and Chubby Black and Gold Weevil in Lamington National Park, Australia

Beautiful weevil I found in Lamington National Park (Queensland, Australia). closest ID I have found is a “little rainforest weevil” but not sure at all, so if anyone recognises, keen to know it’s species. Weevils are genuinely one of the most adorable insects. Absolutely love them.

P.S. if you in Aus, Lamington National Park is well worth a visit. Stunning place.

Clustering of Golden Orb Weavers - Fraser Coast Queensland - Pt 2 (Video)

Stumbled upon a menagerie of Golden Orb Weavers in Fraser Coast. I have seen small groupings before and have heard they like to cluster, but nothing like this. I like my spiders but even for me it was confronting. Easily 100 in a giant web that had taken over a hedge and tree. Will see if I can upload the video I took. They had woven a thick quilt of silk across the area.

Have added the video (successfully I hope) which shows the extent. Incredible but also unsettling.
