Best apples-to-apples disc vs. streaming comparisons?

One key reason people prefer Blu-ray and 4K UHD over streaming is the much higher video bitrate and lower compression.

I'm looking for good examples where the same transfer is available both on disc and on a streaming service, which I could use to show someone the difference. I'm not looking for a different restoration, color grade, or master - looking for an apples-to-apples comparison of disc versus streaming.

Specific scenes or timestamps would be appreciated. Thanks.

Orpheus was the original guitar hero

When Jason and the Argonauts sailed past the Sirens, whose hypnotic singing lured sailors to their deaths, Orpheus played his lyre so beautifully that he drowned out the Sirens' voices and saved the entire crew.

Bang My Box: The Robin Byrd Story - documentary on HBO Max

HBO Max has a documentary on Robin Byrd, who hosted The Robin Byrd Show on NYC public access TV from 1977 to 1998. What a trip down memory lane about NYC.

NYCC when dates sell out - historical info

Posting this info for people’s reference on when to buy tickets.

NYCC posts alerts on social media when tickets are low or sold out. For 2025, they posted these alerts:

Aug 20: Friday is 85% sold. Sun kids is 90% sold.
Aug 27: Sun kids is sold out. Friday is 90% sold.
Sept 3: Friday is sold out.
Sept 16: Sunday is sold out.

4 Day and VIP usually sell out in the pre-sales, before the general sale happens. Saturday usually sells out very quickly in the general sale. Thursday usually does not sell out by the con.

Thursday kids tickets are new for 2026, so no historical info on that.

Ranch 1 (aka Chicken Bar) grilled chicken sandwiches - anything like this today?

NYC once had a chain restaurant called Ranch 1. Many of them closed around 2008. After that, some franchisees rebranded and operated independently as Chicken Bar, serving nearly identical food. Those closed down over time by around 2018.

They were known for grilled chicken sandwiches on soft hero rolls, with lettuce and almond slivers, and a slightly tangy and spicy red sauce. They also served grilled chicken over rice.

I still think about these sandwiches today. Is there anything similar or comparable in NYC nowadays?

How do room correction or speaker calibration handle dips? Who does it right?

With room correction or speaker calibration software, I'd like to hear people's thoughts about how the different platforms deal with frequency dips caused by room modes.

Some dips are caused by room modes, where sound waves cancel each other out. Using a parametric EQ to boost that region doesn't solve that problem: you are making your amp work harder, at the expense of headroom, by throwing more energy into a null that will cancel out the signal anyway.

Speaker calibration platforms have their ways of addressing this without just boosting the region (e.g., Trinnov, Dirac, Sonarworks, Neumann MA1). I would like to better understand what they are doing, and what their different approaches are. Also would like to get people's take on which ones do it right or better.

AMC Lincoln Square IMAX - best & worst seats color-coded seating chart

I put together this color-coded seating chart of the best and worst seats at the AMC Lincoln Square IMAX. This is based on my preferences from going to that theater for over 25 years, and what I hear from other people. Open to feedback from people.

Also added a couple photos from when I was there recently, so people can see the screen distortion from the aisle seats' viewing angle.

For action movies, I do prefer to sit farther back. Else you can be moving your eyes or head to see things flying all over the screen.

I have sat in the front row before, and it was not as horrible as you might imagine. But that does not mean they are good: I would always go for a better seat at another screening rather than sit in the front row.

Is there a canonical, in-universe reason female Klingon armor has a chest cutout?

In the Star Trek shows, female Klingon armor has a large opening in the chest plate. I realize this is TV trying to make characters look more alluring. But is there any canonical, in-universe reason given for this armor design?
