A Tampa man’s courtroom outburst led to him being dragged out of the room after he was convicted of sexual battery.

Joseph Killins was on trial this week for kidnapping and sexually battering a woman who made a late-night DoorDash delivery in April 2023.

Authorities said he threatened the victim with a gun, forced her to drive to the Belara Lakes Apartment, and sexually battered her there. 

At the time, the woman was on the phone with her girlfriend, and her family was able to track her down. When her family arrived to rescue her, Killins shot at them, hitting another woman.

Both victims were hospitalized for their injuries. Police arrested Killins days later after they connected him to another attack on another woman the following day.

Thursday, a jury convicted him of kidnapping with a firearm, sexual battery with a firearm, armed battery, and attempted first-degree murder. Killins showed signs of emotional distress as the counts were read, placing his hands on his face before briefly putting his head down.

As Judge Lyann Goudie verified the jurors’ verdicts, Killins began standing up from his seat while a Hillsborough County deputy ordered him to sit back down.

When Killins tried to stand up again, the deputies rushed to restrain him in his chair.

Goudie asked Killins what was going on, which led to the defendant shouting back.

That b— lying, man!” he yelled. “I didn’t do no s— like that!”

Goudie then promptly ordered deputies to remove Killins from the courtroom and place him in a holding cell as he continued to shout.

He was then seen being removed by deputies locking his arms and making him walk backward.

Due to his status as a reoffender, he was sentenced to life in prison on four counts and 15 years each for two other counts.

He is right where he belongs !
