What to expect at my first postnatal mental health appointment?

I had really bad baby blues so have been referred to a postnatal mental health team but I have anxiety around therapists. To others that have gone through this - I’m just wondering what happens / what to expect from the appointment, just so I feel more prepared. Thank you ❤️

A really cute quirk my girl has

She nurses to sleep like 90% of the time but sometimes she’s too full to suckle so she’ll be comforted by just having my nipple on her mouth, not even necessarily in her mouth, just resting on. I’ll see her rooting and offer boob and she’ll calm down and sleep but with my nip on her mouth. It’s the cutest thing and I always assume for her knowing the booby bar is readily available comforts her 🥹❤️

Chicken nuggets & lychees I just realised are out of date 🫠

Also with chilli jam & truffle mayo. Top tier meal 🫶🏻

Ikea potato fritters with melted cheese and chilli jam 🌶️

Yes I started eating before I took the pic because I’m a pure glutton. My greed sickens me 😔

My halloumi burnt because I was feeding my boob barnacle ☹️

Still delicious but I sound like I’m chewing rocks. Also Nando’s chilli jam on the side, I could bathe in that stuff.

Anyone else’s baby act absolutely disgusted at the boob after you’ve showered??

I’ve noticed a pattern of when I feed my girl after I’ve had a shower she seems to be grossed out by my boob, making an almost gagging face before realising it’s her dinner. It’s quite funny but also mildly offensive 😂

(I don’t use perfumes or overly smelly soaps btw in case anyone is thinking she’s getting a mouthful of Dior)

Had to turn off Frankenstein because the creation reminded me of my toddler and I sobbed 🫠

Started watching the new Frankenstein last night and I had to stop watching because it reminded me of my boy. He’s speech delayed and tries really hard with his speech and watching Dr Frankenstein treat his creation so badly had me in tears so I had to stop watching. What has parenting done to me?!

Finally got my husband to watch with me!!

And he absolutely LOVES it!! I didn’t have anyone I knew in real life that loves this show so I immediately got him onto it. We quote it constantly around the house to each other now.

This show has genuinely saved me while I was going through the baby blues after recently giving birth to my second baby. I love it so much and I can’t wait for the next season.

Also - may I suggest a different head piece?

Feel like I’m bossing it this time around

With my first I was so scared. Obviously a new parent so I was learning that and on top of it I was trying so hard to breastfeed but didn’t have any knowledge and eventually gave up for my mental health. It’s something I’ve regretted ever since. This time around I feel so calm, I have my moments of “oh god is she getting enough?” But it’s no where near the same as last time. I feel like I’m confident my baby is doing what she needs to do and I feel like it’s going to be a wonderful journey.

Sorry for the brag in case others are struggling right now, I just want to happily vent. I’m so glad I’ve stuck with it this time around, the bonding experience is wonderful. I feel so happy!

Those who have used a manual pump & electric - which is best?

I bought the Medela hand pump today and I’m looking forward to using it as I’ve heard good things but I’m wondering how it will compare with my spectra (the holy grail for me)

Anyone used both? what did you think? Also any tips for the hand pump would be super appreciated!

Any tips for creating a better sear on a thin piece of meat without overcooking?

I think this came out pretty well considering it was quite thin but I’d love tips to get better
