Tips and tricks for a beginner?

So I just discovered 3 days ago that I have some secret waves going on👀

I’m doing trial and error, but based on the results I’ve had to date, I’m wondering what you guys would suggest, things I should know, things I should do, etc. Any help is appreciated!

This is what I know to date:

Less is more, I need to chill with the products

Plopping for 15–20 minutes after scrunching is ideal

A microfiber towel or t-shirt is necessary

It’s probably gonna take a long time before my waves properly take shape because of years of heat damage and brushing while my hair was wet

But this is what I’m struggling with:

I like myself some fluffy hair. Whether it’s straight or wavy, I love when it looks luscious. I feel like the type of waves I have won’t make that possible? Fighting the urge to brush the waves is soooo hard because I always feel like it looks dirty😭 Or at least not as luscious as I’d like it to be, even when I add oil.

I want volume. My first bowl method try was great, but on my second try, my hair all clumped together at the top? I only had a couple strands that didn’t tangle into each other. So I took a shower to rinse out the excess product, and this time I didn’t flip my hair upside down to scrunch it. The waves are pretty, but my roots are way flatter, and I overall preferred my first attempt even though this one looks cleaner since I scrunched standing straight.
So those are my two main struggles. Any help with those specific things would be amazing, but honestly I’ll take anything😆 I really want to perfect the wavy hair thing.

The first picture with my hair straight is when I let it air dry while brushing it every 10 minutes (which is what I’ve always done because I thought it would help with the frizz🤦‍♀️)

The pictures at the end are either done with blowout rods (heatless curls) or with a Dyson. It’s just to give an example of what my hair can look like and how I like my hair to look.

I know I don’t have the same waves as the example of my goals, but it’s more so the fluffiness or silkiness of the hair that I’d like to be able to attain while embracing my natural hair

Omg

What in the actual hell

In my last post, some people mentioned the possibility of me having wavy hair, so I thought I’d give the bowl method a try… I have NEVER seen my hair like this. I am absolutely shocked.

I know it’s pretty messy, I didn’t detangle before dipping it, but I’ll try doing it properly next week with some products.

My question is… wouldn’t anyone doing the bowl method end up with wavy hair from doing this?🤔 Like, is this actual proof that I’ve got some waves going on, or is there something else I should try to really tell?

Anyway, one way or another, I’m blown away by this

Thank you so much to the people who suggested the possibility of wavy hair🙏🏻

Edit - By the way, I got so excited seeing my hair like this that I was too impatient to wait for it to dry😩 I’ll post a fully dried picture in the comments later

The picture with my hair fully dried is in the comments🫶

How do I get rid of these little rascals [Routine Help]

I use BHAs, AHAs, and retinoids, and I’ve been using them for a long time, but they don’t get rid of the bumps. I’m not even sure what the bumps are🤔

These are the products I use:

Daily

Krave Beauty – Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser

Krave Beauty – Great Barrier Relief

Isntree – Yam Root Vegan Milk Cream

Krave Beauty – Beet The Sun

Krave Beauty – Makeup Re-Wined

Weekly

Krave Beauty – 24 Carrot Retinal (0.05% retinal serum)

G.M. Collin – Peel Toner (4% PHA, 4% lactic acid, 0.5% glycolic acid + arginine, 1% BHA)

Isntree – Chestnut BHA 2% Clear Liquid

I went on Accutane and took my last dose a year and a half ago. The actives I use are super helpful for preventing further breakouts and helping heal my acne scars.

Is there anything I should take out or replace? Or a product I should add? Thank you for the help! Also, if anyone knows exactly what these bumps are, that would really be helpful.

How bad is it

This is how my hair looks when I let it dry naturally… is it bad?😭

I do EVERYTHING for my hair — bonnet, masks, oils, leave-in conditioner, heat protection, trims, all of it. But I dye it every month, and ever since I started trying to go cooler toned, my ends has been getting sooo fried.

I cut off 1.5 inches 2 weeks ago and it already looks damaged again😭

Is this just dryness or actual split ends/breakage? Anyone here lighten their hair and still manage to keep it healthy and long?

I do my nails all the time and love trying different colors.

I’m not even a big purple fan, but I know it’s a go-to color for cool olive skin, even just olive in general, so I gave it a try. I feel like it looks amazing! I'm wondering what you guys think🫶 And also if you have any other color recommendations💅

It got me curious, what’s your undertone/overtone, and which color looks amazing on you?

The color looks SO GOOD, I was wondering how a purple blush would look, it's surprisingly so natural looking.

Would love a lip color recommendation to go with this blush if anyone has any💜

Here are some comparison swatches from Tower 28, Missha, and Lisa Eldridge!

This is a swatch post, it’s fun to have comparison pics! But these swatches have me questioning things, so if anyone can teach me more about this, I’d love to hear it!

I'd like to mention that my arm is the exact same color as my neck and face!

I think we can all agree that the 2.0 BU neutral cool concealer from Tower 28 is a flawless match when I add the mixers.

The 1.5 BW olive one is just too yellow/saturated, even with blue added.

But then, looking at Missha No. 21, it disappears into my skin with just the white mixer. I know it’s not technically advertised as an olive foundation, just cool-toned, but I also know it’s a favorite among cool olives, so I wanted to include that!

I was convinced the LE shades were perfect. The 1.5 tint with just the white looks great, but compared to Missha, it seems like it’s missing a a TINY bit of pink on me. Same thing with the foundation when I add blue and white.

These two are advertised as olive.

So, the two shades that match me best are:

Tower 28 2.0 BU (neutral cool undertone) with white and blue added

Missha No. 21 (cool undertone) with white

Does that mean I’m not actually muted cool olive, but just muted cool? Or does it mean that most olive products on the market lean warm?

I’m also lowkey scared people who match Missha will get mad because I’m questioning whether we're actually olive😭 but I’m genuinely just curious. I feel like I’ve rarely heard people talk about just muted cool skin, if that even is a thing?
